Brainbox Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Thanks for the review. The set itself looks really nice, slightly crazy but very nice nonetheless (or perhaps because of it). I love the new dark brown colour, and the gold troll helmet is just *wub* I may be tempted to buy this. Quote
salty tbone Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 By the way, is it because it's an exclusive that it's the same price as the Dwarves' Mine? In the US, it's $40. By comparison, I saw the Dwarves' Mine momentarily reappear on Lego S@H for $60 (which was $10 more than it had been.) Quote
Hinckley Posted February 9, 2008 Author Posted February 9, 2008 How does it perform on rough terrain, like duvets and grass? I don't own a duvet and right now snow is covering the grass. I'm not sure I would take my LEGO outside to play anyway. The bunnies and coyotes may steal them. Or the coyote may eat the bunny. But, that's a different story... Do the "teeth" parts on the wheels fall off a lot? I played with this for quite a while writing the comic-it's a lot of fun :-$- And the teeth never came off no matter who or what I ran over with it... What is the part the catapult fires? - it looks like a large pearly football *wacko* It's more of a large pearly basketball. I didn't feature it in the review because I thought we'd seen it in other sets, even though it's the first time I've seen it. I'll photograph it for you tonight. :-) And finally, do Fabuland heads actually come off? Do you just pull hard? X-D Haven't you ever read Fabuland Housewives? ;-) :-D , great comic Hinckley, I think this is the first time Bianca has actually died! Love the trolls "Rawr"ing, though I did notice Bianca called Gavin a "Firend" in there somewhere :-P Batbrick Away! >:-) Thanks. And yes it is the first time Bianca died. :-D Don't worry. She's all right though. Trolls are brutal. >:-) Thanks for finding the misspell. I hate when I do that. I was pretty tired. Couldn't you tell by the french-speaking trolls? *wacko* Unfortunately, I'll have to wait until later tonight to fix it... Quote
Batbrick Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 Thanks. :-D , I thought so. Thanks for the great review Hinckley, I wonder how much it will be on S@H, seeing as Aus is probably not getting it, well, not Tas anyway. I'll be happy with a bit cheaper than Dwarf's Mine, it'd still be a better deal than the skeleton ship attack last year. Oh well. And yes, I was a little surprised be french speaking trolls that were told to keep "Rawr"ing :-D Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Visorak-kal Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Excellent review, pictures and all! I agree with your sentiments entirely, if that price is in American dollars (Which I assume it is) then you get a great amount of pieces for it. And six minifigures is superb, especially since three of them are trolls! I agree that the armament seems useless for any practical reasons, but it does serve a unique purpose in this set. You do know that it is specifically designed to counter the battle wheel? When the wheel rolls over the armament, the spears lock into the wheels and bring it down. You can see a picture of it in the Castle downloads section on the lego castle website. There is a wallpaper of the Battle Wheel on the U.S. version of the site that shows it. So the armament isn't entirely useless..it's just useless for anything except the wheel. The only grip I have is the long thing sticking out of the back, but I think it is there to hold the wheel up (besides being the shooting mechanism), otherwise wouldn't it fall down flat on its face like it did in your comic? Athos Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Yay for reviews! Actually all I read was the comic, which are my favorite part of any review. Steve Quote
hoang Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 pretty cool set. i was just browsing ebay for this model and people would actually sell or bid on it for more than what it actually cost, it's insane. *wacko* Quote
Inertia Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Great Review and Comic, Although Gavin died too fast this time... 8-| Anyway, Those shooty thing do actually come in handy... For assualting dogs, cats, large insects... X-D Quote
Piranha Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Ah thats much better Hinckley!! Reminds me of the good ol days when you had all those great reviews and funny comics! *y* This one is very funny! Shame Bianca and Gavin get killed though X-D Battle Wheel On! P Quote
Corvus Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Excellent review, Hinckley! Though, the comic by far was the best... and hilarious! RAWR! :-$ I look forward to the day lego gets sued because a kid shoots one of these at himself and gets hit in the eye. 8- Quote
Piranha Posted February 12, 2008 Posted February 12, 2008 Wouldn't that be nice? Unfortunetly, TLC was smart enough to cover it's @$$ with the little yellow warning head... Actually I did nail myself in the eye once with it........on purpose X-D :-P P Quote
xwingyoda Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 I just built this set and I am not that convinced at all !! First, I am pissed at the fact that TLC can't put in the sets the right accessories |-/ Like the wrong helmet in the Dwarf mine, here its the wrong armour in that troll (way to go to put a skellie armour >:-( ) Then the set suffers from the same flaw as the EF fighter: I bought a wheel and not a wheel gun shooting some crap. It really makes the set look like crap. I took it off and now it looks way better :-D It looks like an actual wheel as pictured on the box :-P *yoda* Quote
Batbrick Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 It looks like an actual wheel as pictured on the box :-P Do you like the set now that it is an actual wheel or did you mean you are still not convinced? That said, I will be modding mine straight away as soon as i get it. Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote

Siegfried Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Then the set suffers from the same flaw as the EF fighter: I bought a wheel and not a wheel gun shooting some crap. It really makes the set look like crap. I took it off and now it looks way better :-D It looks like an actual wheel as pictured on the box :-P *yoda* I couldn't agree with you more. :-/ I almost always remove those too. In the case of the Batmobile, the Aqua Raders sub and the Imperial landing craft (and more!) it was the same day. :-P Quote
iamded Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 (edited) Woohoo! Thanks for the great review Hinckley! Just one a few things I noticed, it still says "Welcome to this review preview. Look for the full review later tonight." Just thought you might want to know. :-$ And in the overall rating you missed an 'l' on still. ...though I did notice Bianca called Gavin a "Firend" in there somewhere :-P The 'firend' was in here. :-$ Sorry for pointing out all the errors. I promise I won't next time! X-D Still, it was a great review with great pictures, now you've convinced me to move this up on my 'to buy' list. X-D ~Peace Edited February 17, 2008 by iamded Quote
Batbrick Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Still, it was a great review with great pictures, now you've convinced me to move this up on my 'to buy' list. X-D~Peace I win! I knew you would buy it! X-D I love that new brown too, it looks fantastic, I hope this is priced well for Aus. Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Hinckley Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 :-$ Sorry for pointing out all the errors. ~Peace Not at all. Thank you. I agree 100% with *yoda* . It looks 100 times better with the handle and gun removed. The antenna is a smart idea for stability, yodes. Thanks. ;-) Quote
ExoBuilder Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Thanks for the nice review Hink, I also loved the comic *wub* Though, I was hoping Bianca would have something better on that chain ;-) *sweet* Quote
Hinckley Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 What is the part the catapult fires? - it looks like a large pearly football *wacko* Okay, I finally got around to photographing the part in question-the pearly basketball. I realize when you call it a football, you might be referring to the American Soccer ball, which the rest of the civilized world calls a Football and which you kick with your feet as compared to the American Football that you throw with your hand... I added it to the review, as well... Quote
Siegfried Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Okay, I finally got around to photographing the part in question-the pearly basketball. Yay... more Zamor spheres... :-/ Quote
wulf Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 (edited) Great review thanks!(oh,awesome comic by the way) Edited February 17, 2008 by wulf Quote
Shadows Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Am I seeing this correctly and safe to assume that the new dark brown is more like what dark brown would have been had they not gone to frown, and therefore devoid of most of it's reddish quality? Why are there 3 shades of grey in the pic as well? Am I just being lame and not paying attention? Will we ever find out who killed the mayor??? THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE! *wacko* Wouldn't that be nice? Unfortunetly, TLC was smart enough to cover it's @$$ with the little yellow warning head... I'd like to think that, but Nintendo was the first company to specifically warn people about epileptic seizures as a result of playing games, putting it in every booklet and eventually in the opening of most of their games. They were also the first sued for it, after already including the warnings. Go figure. At least that's how I heard the story (that's code for "I'm too lazy to confirm this, so someone go and prove me wrong and I'll say 'oops' and inside know that I saved myself all that research time anyway"). Oh, and sorry I came upon this review so long after the fact, but it's very well done and the suggestions for improving the set should be much better than that shooting nonsense they keep sticking us with. Thanks to Hinckley for the review, and *yoda* for the fix! Quote
Hinckley Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 Why are there 3 shades of grey in the pic as well? Sorry. I should've explained better. That configuration of brown and grey plates is my color checker. That's how I determine which pieces are bley or grey & frown or brown while I'm sorting. They must all be kept separate and never touch. *wacko* Quote
iamded Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I win! I knew you would buy it! X-D I love that new brown too, it looks fantastic, I hope this is priced well for Aus. Batbrick Away! >:-) Okay, you do win. But I'll still be modifying this! Now I just need to find an official Lego piece heavy enough to act as a counter-balance... Not at all. Thank you.I agree 100% with *yoda* . It looks 100 times better with the handle and gun removed. The antenna is a smart idea for stability, yodes. Thanks. ;-) Yay, I helped someone! :-D You're welcome. :-$ ~Peace Quote
