Yes, a regular Castle theme is required.  Another Tolkien theme wouldn't be bad, though, as I prefer the colors and details used in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit sets.  Hopefully we get an in house Castle theme with the same colors and details.

Considering Nexo Knights is pretty much a retake on Knights' Kingdom 2, the next in the line should be a retake on Fantasy Era

And no, candy colored Knights is not a strong enough reason to call it a retake (the only correlation).

 

I wonder (if Nexo Knights is ending) if some of the designers might share some scrapped ideas?

I hope, wonder if they had drawings/physical models of vehicles for the sea and forest monsters, or if we dont get anymore to this years wave if they had stuff designed in case. always neat seeing their ideas for stuff even if it never sees the light of day as a set

I remember when the rumours were coming out about Nexo Knight before it's release, it went from fantasy, to fantasy steampunk to steampunk castle with space ships in like 6 months. :lol:

I just want more in house themes using yellow minifigures.

-Heroes side have named characters instead of just being random kinghts (Jayko, Rascus, Danjo, etc; Aaron, Clay, Lance)

-Each of the heroes has its own color scheme/crest

-Shields with magic

-Named kingdoms

-The villain used to be on the king's side but turned evil at some point (Vladek, Jestro)

-Villain had a black/red fortress 

-Villains side have named characters (Dracus, Karzon; Lavaria, Flama, etc)

I'm not saying it's a copy/paste, but overall it follows the same line, which is distinctive from other LEGO castle themes

There was also a vague sci-fi angle to KK2, but they didn't really explore it much.

I remember reading that each knight was supposed to have a castle themed around their animal. That would have been very Chima-esque, thank god they scrapped it.

Many of those similarities you name just seem to be a natural extension of trying to develop the more nebulous aspects of other Castle themes into a character-driven IP. Giving each hero a different color scheme and/or symbol, for instance, is a common technique to make it easier to tell characters apart — even in non-visual media, like the original book of The Hobbit, which often identified the dwarves by their hat colors. Named kingdoms are likewise common in story-driven media — after all, it's difficult to refer to those kingdoms in the story without some kind of name! Villains having names and non-villainous origins are a common trope to make villain characters less one-dimensional. Black and red are traditional signifiers for evil, but in Nexo Knights even that didn't remain a constant fixture, with later waves opting for purple and grey or black and green. Overall, you could draw a lot of these same sorts of comparisons between either theme and non-LEGO series like My Little Pony or Voltron.

On reddit right now, there is a leaked image of what looks to be advertising material that features the Cowboy from the upcoming CMF wave. The interesting thing is that he seems to be standing above a Nexo Knights box. I personally can't tell whether it is a new set or not (let's face it, it's most likely not), but it is interesting.

I was wondering that as well, but I have seen the full picture now. It is just the Twinfector, not a new set...

FYI the Berserker Bomber and Tech Wizard Showdown are already 20% off on Amazon in the US. Seems fast to me. I took the chance to get the berserker and am just waiting on the twinfector to go down.

while I admit I wasn't a fan of most of the previous wave sets im loving the berseker bomber , twinfector and tech wizard showdown sets I don't really like the other 3 that much

hmmm I expect in the summer wave maybe there could be another big set with an actual monstrox minifigure

Same here. I've personally loved the creativity shown in both Ninjago and Nexo Knights, creativity I don't feel is possible when they're building sets for established licenses. Now, I'm not hating on licenses (well, maybe the overuse of Batman, but that's more down to my beef with the character in general) as I love how my Marvel and DC display is growing, especially with obscure characters, but I want to see Lego's ideas, not which license is hot at the moment.

I'm kinda the same. I'm hoping we'll get all six knights "unmasked"/with a hair piece but if Ninjago is anything to go by, they'll do half or two thirds of the team, then randomly stop leaving my "variant" display unfinished until I shell out for a set or loose figure. I really hope they don't, but I'm not holding my breath.
