Merkurius Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 A few days ago, I made a decision. I've tried to build big houses, buildings and trains and have never been satisfied. I and new pieces and colors doesn't match and when I am collecting 12v trains and buildings and was a kid in the 80s it was actually a pretty easy decision: My mocs will look as they are taken from a LEGO catalogue from 1982-86. So, here is my first try. The brand new 7833 Shell terminal from 1984! It's still only build digitally, but I think I'm going to buy the pieces to build it in real, too! Any ideas and thoughts are welcome. Be mercyful :-) http://tydje.se/lego/7833/7833-2.jpg http://tydje.se/lego/7833/7833-3.jpg Quote
HoMa Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 Looks great, you've catched the iconic style from the early/mid 80s very well! Compared to today's LEGO sets and MOCs that era proved that building with limited colors and shapes wasn't a limitation in creating both great toys and model railroad. Looking forward to see more of that stuff! Holger Quote
Toastie Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 Be what? Merciful??? I was a kid in the 70's and 80's depending on how you define "kid" - according to my wife I still am today - and I completely agree with you: It was easier to come up with a MOC. But you know what? The feeling of "ease" and "being satisfied" with what you created comes from your imagination. And that is the very difference for me: Imagination is what renders a studded LEGO MOC comprised of X by X bricks and plates and a couple of totally beyond belief round bricks, a never seen before tap ... in about eight colors - the most wonderful thing the world has ever seen! That is was LEGO is (was?) all about. And as Holger said: You really captured that look and feel. And: It is the most beautiful Shell terminal. I can literally feel the liquid pouring out of these taps into canisters. Wonderful decision, hope to see more of your future MOCs! Regards, Thorsten Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Wow, very iconic set from 80's ...and those Shell colors are amazing! I want this set right now for my 12v layout! Quote
exstatik Posted August 8, 2017 Posted August 8, 2017 @Merkurius are you going to build this? I'd like to see it for real! Quote
exstatik Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Any progress withactually building this?? Quote
JasperL Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 Great job. I think I'm gonna take your idea and build it. Might change some things along the way depending on the pieces I have though. Quote
exstatik Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 @JasperL please do and show us the results. Would love to see this in real bricks! Quote
Jetflap Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 This looks very nice! Excellent job of using vintage parts to create an authentic look. My one suggestion to make it less like a MOC and more like a production set is to increase the play-ability. Sets from this era all have clever little ways to allow kids to play with them more, especially a set of this size. For example, you could incorporate hoses and reels to transfer fuel to/from trains. You could also include a small service vehicle, or even your own design of a tanker car. Just a small suggestion, again it looks very nice! Quote
Merkurius Posted November 13, 2017 Author Posted November 13, 2017 Finally. After some hours work and with your good ideas, a new version of 7833 Shell terminal is here. Now with new control platform (with reel), and a brand new tanker car. I tried some colours for the tank, but actually think that blue was pretty good. Also added a couple of barrels. Please excuse me for somewhat bad image quality. http://www.tydje.se/lego//7833/7833-4.jpg http://www.tydje.se/lego//7833/7833-5.jpg Quote
