I wonder why we haven't seen any pictures from the toy fair yet. It's been what 3 days since it started

Because they wasn't allowed to take, or at least publish any pictures of the summer Technic sets.

Apparentely so.

Peronally I am curious to see when they will officially annouce these sets if not during the toy fairs, I mean NYTF is no even retailer oriented so attendees are going to see the setd but not the rest of the world? I personally don't get TLGs logic here... might be missing something of course.

I wasn't allowed to share images of the 2018 catalogue but somehow we've still all seen them, I promise there's some smug bastard out there with photos, he's just not sharing them on here.

If I'm reading the information from Promobricks correctly, the B model for 42082 should be something like this, which has never been done in Technic.

I'm still kind of miffed that pictures were available of everything else, but no Technic. The least Lego could do is provide some kind of reasoning, as I'm sure many people are sort of miffed.

Perhaps this year the Technic models are a bit more preliminary than in years past? That way Lego would be hesitant to pseudo-officially show them, if they are still considering significant changes (e.g. color).

Maybe the Technic design team is still tweaking the colours on the 42080. Or the Volvo's drone is still triggering the "crush, kill, destroy" mode.

Well what do you know, perhaps he has brother (Boromir) ?

SPOILER ALERT!

Boromir is dead, only Faramir left...

Coming back to topic. Is the new crane using the same wheels as lego model of CLAAS Xerion?

Crane uses tires from Unimog U400 (set 8110), but Volvo Autonomous (set 42081) uses "CLAAS" tires

It wasn't allowed to take pictures of anything that is 2H.

I fully understand your anger (and your “hunger” for news), but this year in Nuremberg everything is really strange... a suspicious feeling is running through  all of the the booths... especially in the big brands ones!

All major brands (TLG, Mattel, Hasbro, Spin Masters, Giochi Preziosi, etc.) have “closed” booths: walls all around, CCTV inside, bodyguards at entrance, registration desks and bags for smartphones to be handed to the staff and received back only at exit!

After my tour at TLG, as soon as I received my phone back, I just took an innocent “selfie” in front of the LEGO logo at the end of the entrance corridor, to send it to my family... and immediately a bodyguard came to me asking to see my pictures (after seeing them, I was allowed to keep and share them, of course)!!!

Consider even that at the same TLG and Hasbro booths I was not admitted to see anything inside, at a first time, because I am an exhibitor... Only after giving them more info about what my company does (basically, emebedded elecronics and controlling apps for some tabletop games and videogames), and after a couple of “strategic calls” (I’m a supplier for some of these brands), I was finally allowed to enter... this never happened in past years!

Every time I was taking a picture, when just having a brief tour around in the fair, I was feeling myself as a thief... even if pictures were totally allowed in many booths (all of the “opened” ones) and I was only wanting to share them with my little daughter!

Just to give you a complete view of the thing, if my memory doesn’t fail, till last year pictures were allowed (except for new IPs, were a simple “no pictures allowed” notice used to be shown) and the press was allowed to take and show videos on YouTube and TV...

It's not really suspicious, we know exactly what their intentions are which is to limit and control how much information is released about a set prior to the sets release. We can't be angry. Im sure TLG has their reasons and seeing as we the wider public are not paying them money for information, how can we be angry just because they won't give us something for free?! Don't get me wrong, Im just as disappointed as anyone that we won't get to see more for some time, I was really hoping to see something from the fair but im not angry. If there's anyone to be mad at, be mad at the moronic, thieving, no design talent, leeching, blood sucking, parasitic clone brands that have no respect for things like intellectual property, morality or decency.

To every "angry" colleauges.

You need to understand where is this phenomenon coming from, and the answer: it is a reaction for piracy actions which is seen in industry (not only toy industry). Just check alixpre... or any marketplace connected to chinese brands, they are actually advertise with stolen (preliminary or official from original producer) pictures their upcoming "new" models for preorder. EDIT example: the copy of 42070 was advertised on named marketplace with the photos were taken at Nürnberg Toy Fair, just weeks after the fair!

This is quite common practice for them, without any consequences - lawsuit is useless, they just close the sewed company (on paper!) and reopen it under different name.

Unfortunately this is the world we are living, there is no respect left for properties, one can not trust in good faith. It is very sad, but "No photo, please!" verbal asking was enough couple of years ago to have it respected, nowadays they need bodyguards, and full gadget control to get this simple sentence respected... well, "respected". You can feel how sincere it is. What is happening, is a simple defence mechanism, seeing the more and more agressive piracy and how weaponless the original authors are, it is no wonder.

Before any rant, raise the question for yourselves: if You invent, create something what You want to do/produce for living, how would You feel, what would You do once facing the fact: some are advertising Your idea as theirs (even with Your marketing material!!), and sell goods as theirs - without having You in the loop.

I am not a huge fan of some actions of TLG, but in this case they (and any other companies, persons in the same shoes) have my full support. I am actually happy to get text descriptions, and the previous "no picture, no text" policy did not happen.

Another thing to consider is the hype. Lego doesn't offer preorders, so even though I am super excited for 2H right now and would buy them immediately if I could, in August it may be a different story. The more time there is between the full reveal and the release date, the more likely I personally am to reconsider the purchases.

Whilst I don't fully agree with the "AFOLs wants are irrelevant due to their small numbers" argument, I do think the number of AFOLs within our group of the most passionate of fans who are looking for, and in many cases finding prerelease information is not big enough to warrant risking their whole anti piracy strategy just to get a few more orders out of us. I know the likes of Adam Savage of mythbusters and Richard Hammond of the grand tour are AFOLs to some extent, but are they aware of the Chiron, or are they like the majority of AFOLs who are happy to just see what's on the shelves right now?

Not really relevant for this topic, but relevant to your experience there.

As someone who worked for quite some time in security business, i can say that "bodyguard" most likely has no legal rights to ask to see your pictures on your phone, or any info from your phone at all (especially if hired for this event). You could have easily say "no" and ask them to call the police. Only police can take your phone, ask you for your ID etc...Just to make clear, i fully agree that we should comply with the Lego's wish to not take photos of their models, so much easier to just show them you did not take any "bad" pictures.

I think many of use are spoiled (me including). Why do we even want to get information in January about anything we can only get in August? Why can't we just wait until it's August and see what hits the shelves then? It's as if we deliberately set up ourselves for the dread of having to wait 7 months, while instead we can just enjoy the shiny new 2018H1 sets that have just arrived in shops. Really, it's so strange if you think about it. I think we would lead a happier life with less distraction if we were to simply abandon this whole news stuff and went on with our business and see for ourselves when any new sets actually arrive. Of course, it's fun to speculate, but I wouldn't mind if we skipped a half-year and start speculation about 2019H1 in January 2019...
