Aventador2004 Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Am considering 42080 as a parts doner, it may be a good one. I also agree, mods will help. Quote

Ngoc Nguyen Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 (edited) 42080 129.99 EUR I'll get it when it drops to 90 - 100 EUR, and it will. Currently Mack is for sale at 108 EUR on amazon.de while MSRP is 150 EUR. That's some crazy discount. Edited March 23, 2018 by Ngoc Nguyen Quote
Shiva Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Mack for that sum on amazon de?! That's sort of a robbery... I did not think that it would go that low, tbh. Quote
Ngoc Nguyen Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 (edited) Here's a video showing 42080 at work. Too bad this set isn't licensed. If it had been I think it would look so much better than the color vomit in the Prelim. Someone even replicated this Ponsse on LEGO Ideas with Claas tyres: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/23583f34-3e0b-4959-a593-755ca4ac0f5d Edited March 23, 2018 by Ngoc Nguyen Quote
Jaromir Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Wow this machine looks amazing. Is the model actually looking the same as this one on the video? Quote

Since 42080 is not a licensed model it doesnt look exactly like that. Color wise it's a mess, with red, white, yellow, lime, dark green, blue, LBG, DBG competing with each other and end up accounting for 10 percent each in the model... Function wise there is no telescopic boom. There are only two functions. The arm can only move up down, and the clamps can grab a log. When the clamps grab the log a circular saw blade is thrust forward and cut the log in halves. It does have 8 wheels, articulated steering, (apparently) cabin rotation, and the arm is of gantry style like the Ponsse. I didnt want to get this set at first, but since now I know it looks like the Ponsse I'll get it and flatter myself I've got a Ponsse. Quote
Maaboo the Witch Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Maybe TLG should go in with Ponsse. Quote

It´s perfectly normal for Lego to be 30-40% off RRP as Amazon price match national promos. Quote
UVAChEEngineer Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 I'm envious of those EU Amazon price drops. 2017 and 2018 Q1 sets have been locked at MSRP on US Amazon. I have been watching the MACK truck since it came out and its been stuck at $179.99 US. Same with last years flagship even! Incredible.... Quote
N-4K0 Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 The advantage I see with the shape of the crane arm on the Ponsse Scorpion King is that it seems to double as extra protection around the cab, above and from the sides. With the rounded shape of the real thing compared to what TLG have done with 42080 based on the prelim, it looks quite ingenious. Quote

Maaboo the Witch Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 I really don't think TLG are going to whack smaller CLAAS tyres on 42080. I do think the hubs should be a different colour; the black ones are WAY overused. Quote

There's also the possibility of new colours not yet available at the time the image was made and thus "placeholder" colours were used, like was the case with the small panels on the sides of the 42008. Maaboo the Witch Posted March 26, 2018 Posted March 26, 2018 That would make sense regarding the dark green panels; they just don't go with the rest of the model. Lime long curved panels? Maybe. But they don't exist in dark green either, so maybe they are final. I hope they aren't dark green on the actual model - they just look awful. Quote

Agree with you at least to some point, but I have learned that I have to wait and see final result. Good orientation is to see which parts are already available in which color and calculate / speculate based on that information... Quote

There are Lime and Dark Green curved panels, I learnt while building 42054 C-Models from BrickbybrickTechnic There are two different but alike parts: the Panel Curved 11 x 3 with 10 Pin Holes which is not availabel neither in Lime nor Dark Green and the Panel Curved 11 x 3 with 2 Pin Holes which is available in both Sorry for the off-topic I do not like both colors together. They may even surprise all of us using the 42039's green (Bright Green) Quote

Glad to hear people are building my stuff which one BTW? Also, following the irregular color trend, I see this one being dark green. The set in the prelims does not look good in terms of form, and hopefully the color will not match the form. Quote
