Hey everybody! I got this set last week and finally got organized enough to get the review together. It's up now on my site:

10184 Town Plan Review

I hope to get a little comic in soon...in the mean time, enjoy and, as always, feel free to let me know what you think. Thanks. :-)

Nice review Hickley!

I got his a week or two ago (actually, on LEGO's anniversary) and it is just fantastic. Not as detailed as Cafe Corner, but certainly retro and just plain nice. My favorite building is the movie theater, hands down. ;-)

Thanks Hinckley! *sweet*

Great review. *wub* Probably your best too. *sweet* This set is very well designed and has some great pieces in it. You're almost making me regret my decision to pass up on this set.... 8-|

I feel the same about the DSS situation. Yes, they are annoying, but often I am glad that some pieces aren't printed as it can make them hard to use later on. On the subject of the grooved pieces, I have noticed that before. (I can't remember when though. :-$ ) I have also noticed (in the UCS Batmobile) the use of holed 1x1s instead of normal 1x1s. I suspect that this is the start of something bad... :-/

As the year began, I made an honest list of the sets I expected to purchase and their likely prices. *sweet*

I added it all up. :'-(

When I was finished crying, I decided that a line had to be drawn somewhere. :-/

That line was going to be Town Plan. I had literally convinced myself that I could live without it. I won't mention that I hadn't seen Green Grocer yet. 8-|

You have, in one lovely review, erased that line and most certainly guaranteed me a place in the halls of bankruptcy. X-O

Congratulations on a job well done and thank you for saving me from myself! *y*

A great review of a great set. What more is there to say? *wub*

Thank you for the wonderful review! :-) The wonderful detail of your words and photos are matched only by the wonderful details of this set. *wub*

I saw this set built at a Lego store, and was instantly impressed. But my wallet couldn't justify it. After reading your review, I'm now pretty much determined to save up for it. (Eggo waffles for breakfast, lunch and dinner X-O ).

Hinklet, you are one lucky devil! Now off to read the review... I smell a frontpage...

EDIT - Great review Hinkley! One mistake you made tough!

The 3x3 radar dish is not new in silver, infact I have a few myself, they come with the big black technic tow-truck ;-)

Fun review, Hinckley, and thanks for all the great pictures.

One issue I had though was this line: "People who know me know that a 4-wide car drives me nuts, but I'm okay with it here."

[shakes head sadly]

4-wide 4-ever!!

Oh, and I had a 6375 too! Man, I LOVED that set.

GRRR! *sing*

Now I even want this set more, and I said I wasn't going to buy this set. BUT I WILL BUY IT! Where do I get the money...

Thanks for the review, perfect photos and a lot of good information. *y*

You call that a review?! It's only three pics, and they are tiny... |-/

I REALLY hope you're kidding.. :-P Edit: Uh-oh. Crossposted. :-$

And I'll look at the review later... I can't stand thumbnails. X-D :-$

Sinner, don't you have some sort of nifty program that does all the work for me? *sweet* ;-)

I just built mine this evening, and then I find this review here. :-D

I agree with most you said, altough I like the service station most - It doesn't have any counterpart (architecturally) anywhere in LEGO's sortiment since the brick was invented, and it just stands out. The cinema does come a very close second though.

One thing I noticed is that despite the relatively small size of these buildings, these are heavy! Anyone who says that these buildings are <insert that tiresome argument> will be lying. It took me three hours to build this set because of all those small 1x1 and 1x2 that are used most of the time.

Also;

Now take a look here:

See what's in that pile that's missing in the picture above? No? Then carefully study the very last step for the Town Hall.

It's easy to miss - I did the same mistake at first. ;-)

did you mean the 1x4 bley plate? what about all that 1x2 single stud plates? surely they have some use in the set. unless of course they repeated the UCS MF mistake and included one extra bag. :-P

The 1x4, yes. It's supposed to go under the 1x4x3 panel with the map - it grips the bricks better.

I have no clue to all those 1x2 singles. I've got some weird piece combinations in mine, such as a white 1x12 plate that goes nowhere, and a good amount of spare tiles, plates, flowers and such.

Hinckley doesn't do Technic. :-|

Yes... Opera! Use the "Links" tool and download them all! X-D I hate the old click-wait-click-wait.

Good point!

Thanks for a very fine review of a simply great set with many interesting building

techniques and nifty although sometimes a little strange details. *y*

An Alien tree invasion.... seems to work, somehow. :-P

Theoretically, the point of this set is to revisit the 1958 Town Plan 'theme' (if you could call it that), which included this:

Not half bad for the pre-minifig scale days, really.
