Legoman Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Well, i was lucky enough to win tickets to an early screening of this movie (being the star wars fan that i am...) The movie sucked! Ok, here's what i have to say Well, as for the movie as a whole, i was really dissapionted This is the first of the clone wars i have seen, but it was really not starwarsy enough for me.I think the character choice of ashoka was good, but not in the eyes of true star wars fans.I have always felt the role of a Jedi Knight was a great responcability (sp?), not a right. It was a Very honoured role in the galaxy.I felt that all the respectfulness of jedi's was thrown in my face. The movie was definatly for a younger age group. 6-10 mabye, the last ones, however, were universal. The entire movie was incredably user-friendly.By that i mean it didn't make you think much about it.It was a 'been there and done that' movie, which i really hate. REGARDING THE NEW ROMOURED SETS Well, all the sets seem extremely plausable.Everthing mentioned plays a big part of the short (yes, it felt very short too)movie. Since i dont belive in spoilers before things are released i will wait until most people have seen it to do a review. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THIS IS ALL JUST MY OPINION legoman Quote
Svelte Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I thought the movie was OK. Not out and out amazing, but OK. I actually found Ahsoka really annoying. The relationship with her and Anakin was contrived and out of seeming with the Jedi hierarchy, as legoman notes. Also, people complain about George Lucas but the dialogue was pretty contrived in this one too. There's a topic to do with Rotta that Ahsoka and Anakin go on and on about, basically saying the same thing every time we cut to a scene with them in it aboout 5 or 6 times. It felt a bit unpolished. Ahsoka - cool minifig, annoying movie sidekick. It did look great but as a movie it didn't really have an epic, big-screen feel. I did enjoy it, though and the voice work was pretty good. The ships that Lego released that aren't in the movie - are these featured in animated adventures or in computer games? I'm not familiar with all the CW spin-offs. Quote
Legoman Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 (edited) Yeah, for the 'new' clone wars sets (the ones already released) none of them were really deserving of being called clone wars sets.Flip, neither the homing spider droid nor the droid gunship were seen AT ALL in the movie. AT-TE had what, mabye 8 secounds? The manga guard fighter had a couple of short minutes. However, the republic gunship and V-19 deserved their place i guess. But yeah, average movie Edited August 14, 2008 by legoman Quote

You're right about the Droid Gunship and Spider Droid though. Anakin's Jedi Starfighter and the Republic Fighter Tank were the other ones I didn't see. Quote

I think we all need to remember that initially "The Clone Wars" was to be a Animated TV series directed by Filoni. It was only when George decided to become more involved that, upon seeing the first 3 episodes in a screening that he figured it would look good as a movie. From what I understand they have 100 episodes planned and have completed 50 of them complete now! Apart from the Twilight, The LEGO sets were chosen from the TV series and were chosen to be iconic to the Clone Wars. We will see the current LEGO vehicles in upcoming episodes as well as further sets based on the upcoming episodes...which means more anime-inspired versions of more characters. And, I foresee another Y-Wing as it was in the Clone Wars era that this craft was "created", and has been featured in the Visual Dictionary. Also expecting Asaaj and Dooku's craft as well and different incarnations of the Jedi Starfighter (Plo Koon's, Kit Fisto's, etc.) Quote
commanderbly42 Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Indeed, there'll be a TV series. I'm looking forward to that a lot more than to the film. The film, after seeing the trailers, will be so-so. Still, I'm definitely going to see it tomorrow with my brother. Quote
simonjedi Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I actually found Ahsoka really annoying. The relationship with her and Anakin was contrived and out of seeming with the Jedi hierarchy, as legoman notes. On about how wrong it is that Anakin has a padawan right? Think of it like this: The jedi realise that theres a war on and jedi are being killed everyday, Its a good idea for the younglings to get experience and training in battles instead of in the temple deflecting remotes." also: Jedi Padawan – an apprentice who began serious tutelage under a single Jedi Knight or Jedi Master. Anakin is a jedi knight by the time the movie starts. Quote
baby Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 This movie is all about doing treaty with Jabba to use the trading route. Anyway, it is not a bad movie as you get to see the clone fight bravely. Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I rather enjoyed it, as you learned more about the clones. I do think it would have been better if they did a Star Wars movie post Endor, though. Quote
commanderbly42 Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 I thoroughly enjoyed it! I was a little worried after the reviews but I am happy that I've seen it. Ziro was the only annoying character - I though Ahsoka was fine. Great film! Quote
Justin2224 Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Ziro was weird, and didn't look very masculine, or act it. But other than that I was great, it also may give us a chance to get a non-LUL Luminara and Windy as well as a new Yoda. There are also alot of other things LEGO can use with the movie and the upcoming TV series. Maybe if we're lucky, the licsense will be extended past 2011. Here's hopin'. Quote
darkrebellion Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Actually I really like the film . I think the story was good and the characters were well developed too, I really like the role of Ashoka in the movie and Rotta looks more like a hutt in the movie (The TLC minifig is nearly total lack of tail ) so that a good thing . The part that really annoyed me is the bar scene with Ziro , when that scene starts I think this is really his "uncle" because he looks more like an "aunt" actually . Other thing that annoyed me is that Fox barely said two words that was really wrong I need to said . Now with the sets, this are my points: - I think all the sets are choosen correctly even if not all of them appear in the film I think we will see them later in the series . - The Twilight is really well designed by the TLC because actually in the film Ashoka and Anakin consider it a "piece of junk" , the only think the TLC could have added is the 3PO-likely droid that appears when they enter in the temple of Teth for the first time and maybe they could have added the medical bay too . - Plo Koon have nothing to do with the Republic Gunship but the TLC never was so "accurate" with the minifigs in the sets . Deinonychus Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I guess most of the people here are way to young to appreciate the genius of Ziro. A Hutt with Black Sun body paint and a feathered headpiece that sounds like Truman Capote. Goes well with the whole thing about Hutts going through different sexual phases in their lives. I get the feeling Ziro was midway between a male and female phase. Ziro was easily the funniest thing in the movie, way better than the slapstick B-1 Battle Droids Quote
winbrant Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Apart from the Twilight, The LEGO sets were chosen from the TV series and were chosen to be iconic to the Clone Wars. We will see the current LEGO vehicles in upcoming episodes as well as further sets based on the upcoming episodes I take that back...according to the Visual Dictionary the Twilight (Corellian 69 Rigger freighter) makes a return ..."Anakin tinkers with the freighter and takes a liking to her- restored to working order and given a few special modifications..." Also, seems it was originally purchased by Ziro. Quote
Corvus Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 It was good and bad at the same time. It they'd kept it just to T.V. ( They should have known the critics were going to shoot it down with a Death Star) and the dialogue...sucked. Some of it was cheesy, some of it not necessary, but part of it was the character's voices- Not enough expression. You could tell the actors were used to actually getting filmed saying it, rather than in a microphone. Also, the entrance was a bit rocky. It came in so fast, and that guy narrarating- what the-? The clones, though, were great. Rex was great, even if he was wearing blue... I thought Captains were red, and that they didn't color-code to legions rather than ranks until the phase 2 armor shift? Ah well, I look forward to the TV series. Quote

Ah well, I look forward to the TV series. I couldn't have said it better. The dialog killed it a bit for me, and slapstick just isn't that funny. I prefer the Clone Wars cartoon parts 1 & 2, as the dialog was much better, and I loved what they did with the clone troopers. I hope the writing improves when the new incarnation comes to tv. The whole "Skyguy" and "Snips" thing got old quick. I thought the narration at the beginning was odd and seemed out of place, too. Starting right off in the middle of a battle was a good idea, and I liked the Jedi moves as well as the clones getting dispatched with OT-like enthusiasm. Quote
Darth_Legois Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Ziro was the only annoying character. Yuck ziro! *shudders* Ok he was just creepy...espicaly the voice that IMO was the worst character in the history of SW right up there with jar-jar. Rex was great I would reccomend the movie to people Ashoka was good. Quote
M'Kyuun Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Perhaps it's just me, but the tone of the new show seems a little too light, considering the characters are embroiled in a war to preserve their republic, and in the Jedi's case, their order. While I'm not opposed to humor in its various incarnations, the Clone Wars movie seemed a bit overdone. Moreover, Ahsoka's character comes across as a bit too loose and free in her mannerisms and speech, esp when addressing older Jedi. I don't mind the character being a bit brash; she is young, but I would still expect the character to be more subdued, pensive, and respectful due to the discipline of her training. The droids, too, seem to have been suddenly programmed with slapstick. A little here and there is cool and funny, but they are permanently stuck in slapstick/cheesy dialogue mode. Is there a mechanic in the bay? See, cheese ain't funny. Granted, the original trilogy was light as well, but without being so over-the-top , so often. The Clone Wars cartoon struck a great balance; I hope the writers receive some good constructive criticism and tone it down a bit. Perhaps I'm jaded b/c I've played the various SW games, and their tones are generally much more serious, LEGO SW an obvious but terrific exception. That said, I'll watch Clone Wars and hope for a slight dampening of tone, and meanwhile, anxiously await the awesome looking, appropriately darker Force Unleashed. Almost forgot to mention, I am very much looking forward to the new ships and characters introduced in the new series, if only to see them in LEGO form over the next few years. Quote
Mace Windu Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 For those of you that can remember, is the battle droid asajj pushes of the cliff a normal battle droid or a droid commander? Quote
