So, here is my build to join the colony ...

Cool! Thanks! I will add it to the colony!

@Andy D, I added the silicon bands to the LDD-file, so you get an impression of their sizes (I also fixed the 20t gear version-issue).

@Ivan_M, this morning I rebuilt the entire model with your instructions. All worked fine. Only installing the engine was a bit difficult, but I guess that part is also difficult in the photo sequence. Thanks again!

I found the engine to be a bit of a dexterity challenge.  The engine sub-assembly isn't very robust when fitting, and there are a few pieces to align simultaneously.  Not sure that sequence would get through TLG checks

Good to hear that instructions are working, yes the engine is quite tricky, but this was the only way I could come up with. I guess the best method is to turn the model upside down so the pistons do not fall out while you try to squeeze it into place.

I was happy to have the challenge during the build.  Official instructions offer no technical challenges these days and, in my mind, detract from the appeal of the Technic line.

I agree. I think having to take a few hurdles during the build only adds to the sense of accomplishment when all is finished .

He seems to like it a lot  I bet even your Rugged Supercar would be sturdy enough him to play with it.

He does. This model is very popular with my kids.

As for the rugged supercar, I'm sure it would be strong enough, but to my disappointment my son always prefers to play with the Porsche, even puts the wheels back on when necessary (I have only one set of Porsche wheels) and always dearranges the bodywork .

That is what I used on mine too. I also used a bigger variant of that tyre on the rear. I'm not sure if that fits on your version though because mine is different here and there.

My build has larger tyres on the rear and only required the 1x2 liftarms to be removed from the rear spoiler.  I think the difference in wheel sizes adds something to the looks.  I certainly preferred it to the original wheels when I built it, hence sticking with change on my build.

So, to clarify, I used 41896 wheels (3 pin holes rather than the 6) with 61480 tyres on the front, and 45982 tyres on the rear.

I want to see one with power puller tires... what a sight it would be!

They won't fit in the front, but they might fit in the back when you leave out the 2l beams attached to the spoiler panels.

Great idea! However, I have no more money to buy more ants .

No, I thought you wanted to buy one . They have cost me about euro 70,- a piece I think.
