One of the great Eslandian heroes of the war with Mardier was Maurice of Greene, Prince of Brickwall, Cousin to King Fernando, and descended from a long line of Eslandolan military leaders, Maurice led the decisive charge in the Battle of La Puebloto. Maurice fell in battle, but his gallantry turned the tide and won the day. Now, his sacrifice is honored with a memorial in Puerto Desafio.

As the citizens pass by the memorial every day, many stop to admire the large sculpture of Maurice on horseback, leading that charge.

Elders explain to their children the sacrifice Maurice made.

The Prince of Brickwall, and the Eslandian ideals he exemplified, will not be forgotten.

A small art & culture build for Puerto Desafio. All C&C welcome.

Excellent dramatic pose  Good choice with black, both for effect and regarding the circumstances.

Is there a Mardierian soldier at back, on the right corner?

Nope, that is Thaddeus Calvo, an adventurer – somewhat well known in certain social circles. Among other things, he almost found the fountain of youth, and had an adventure concerning the lost city of gold. In my builds he frequently shows up socializing with his lady friend, Madame Marian Villeneuve, an Oleander widow.

My fault, now I remember him, he was present in the challenge V. I mistook him for a Mardierian soldiers because there's some similitude between their uniforms.

Thanks for all the comments! It appears building in black worked out. :pir-grin:

I really like the use of black for the statue!  Very eye-catching!  The tile with the sticker is also nicely done, adds a lot to the vig!

Thanks! Yes, the sticker adds a lot.

Cutting it close there, @Capt Wolf. Nice build however. What's up with all the memorials thought recently?

Eh, I would have been better off waiting for October to post it. As for the memorials, the Brickwalls featured prominently in an early part of challenge V, requiring the depiction of a fallen hero. It turned into something a faction rallying point for us for the challenge. Now that the challenge is over and settlements are growing and need small art & culture builds, memorials to our fallen heroes just seem to make sense.

I love that Lego went to horses that can raise up on their hind legs. You can really do some fun stuff with the posing.

Nice, simple but effective - a really nice monument to a fallen hero. Lest we forget

It is pretty simple, but I hope it has enough detail to be a reasonable build. I tried to pay attention to some subtle things, like having the minifigs leaning back to look up at the statue. I had been planning on doing this build for awhile. The right spot finally presented itself, so I whipped it up.

Nice statue and great idea to memorize your heroes.

No problem. You gave me the opportunity to point him out. Calvo and Villeneuve are kind of my "Where's Waldo" minifigs when I do scenes like this. :pir-grin:

Nice black monofigure! Black works well indeed, especially with the shine due to the lighting.

Thanks to both of you. I was worried about how the black would photograph, but I was able to get some good light.
