John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju.” Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)—who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction.

Jake is joined by gifted rival pilot Lambert (The Fate of the Furious’ Scott Eastwood) and 15-year-old Jaeger hacker Amara (newcomer Cailee Spaeny), as the heroes of the PPDC become the only family he has left. Rising up to become the most powerful defense force to ever walk the earth, they will set course for a spectacular all-new adventure on a towering scale.

Pacific Rim Uprising is directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Netflix’s Daredevil, STARZ’s Spartacus) and also stars Jing Tian, Burn Gorman, Adria Arjona and Charlie Day.

Seeing the words Pacific Rim and my mind instantly rushes to that over the top guitar driven soundtrack from the first film!  "Bumbundundundundundundun dundudndundun bumumumumm!"

The first Pacific Rim was a fun film. It was stupid, very silly but it seemed everybody knew it was silly and just had fun making it. Highly entertaining. Hopefully the sequel captures the same sense of spectacle and fun the original had.

Well, I've just updated the initial post with the NYCC premiere trailer, and I must say, it's rather bright and colorful compared to the tone and style of the first film.

From the looks of it, the movie should be called Pacific Rim Resurgence or Jeager Rangers.

Yeah, the trailer seems less del Toro and more Michael Bay, with a heaping scoop of Power Rangers thrown in. The first trailer (the 'recruitment' one) was a better piece of marketing IMO.

Also, John Boyega is no Idris Elba. Not that he's bad, but when it comes to "cancellin' the apocalypse" Boyega seems to be acting with a capital 'A' here. I'll still see it (in theaters? maybe) but try and keep my expectations low. That worked for me with the first one, I had a blast. Fingers crossed.

At least we get new Jeagers to try and replicate in lego ;) Luckily this movie franchise is getting a sequel. I really hope Power Rangers gets a chance at a sequel as this did. It had a killer mid credit scene :)

If that guy is just too plain daunting for you, Flickr user Moko has created all four Jaegers seen in the film in a "Chibi" scale. They're much smaller and proportionally inaccurate, but to me, their proportions are more resembling of a minifigure's, giving them a "Lego touch".

I loved Pacific Rim! But Uprising just looks bland. It looks like one of those cheap cash-in sequels that happens because the studio wants to make a quick buck.

I don't know who made them and I unfortunately don't have a pic on hand, but some one also made some pretty decent Jaegers out of minifigs/minifig parts.

The initial film didn't do great at the domestic box office on its opening week back in 2013; but it was only because of its success at the Chinese box office after the fact that we ended up getting a sequel as a result.

While I don't remember finding any minifigure Jaegers creations before myself, there were these "microfigure-scale" ones someone else pointed out to me by EB user @toothdominoes, which utilize those two-part cockpit assemblies from the Nexo Knights battle suits.

Those are amazingly awesome.

So I went looking and it turns out the minifigs I was talking about where by Moko. But he doesn't seem to have them on his Flickr (Unless I completely missed them).
