KDog Posted April 23, 2010 Author Posted April 23, 2010 (edited) "Nevermind" is just so versatile as a punchline.... It really is! Which is handy for a guy who sometimes doesn't even include a punchline, or includes it in the middle and not the end. :) Edited April 23, 2010 by KDog Quote
Batbrick Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I thought the Loch Ness background worked out well, too. Which backgrounds do you think haven't worked as well? And why? I just ask so perhaps I can improve it. I know that sometimes the computer backgrounds can look really blue and washed out, and I'm sometimes too lazy to fix them. I'll have to go back and check, but I think the backgrounds work really well until an action scene happens and it becomes much more noticeable, such as the one where Valkyrie took of with Friendlich's ship and dumped it off a cliff. But this really just seemed to work. I don't know if it was just the background either though, your previous action scenes seemed rather messy. I don't mean that in an offensive way, sorry if it sounds, but you've definitely really improved to a stage where you can have each panel of a comic progress logically to the next. Soon, you will overcome weakness itself, and then become...a GOD! Or not, anything can happen. I do think I'll try to stop breaking up stories like I did with Date Night. I'm going to come across as a bit of jerk in saying this, but I'll say it anyway; I think the comic works a lot better that way. I love reading a lot of one-shots in a row, I've no problem with them and I love that you use them to their absolute potential such as non-canon, meta and of course using them to briefly update every character. But when they happen in the middle of a story, it seems the wish of getting back to that distracts them from their own merits. Again, massive apologies, you could have Shwartz doing it with a monkey next part and I'd still be a loyal fan. Anyway, as promised, my ever-so-late reviews: Literal Interpretation of Incubus: Woah! Never before has context been so necessary Do you perhaps have a link to the song? Date Night Part 21: I had a laugh at everything Shwartz missed, but the real jem is in the next part - Date Night Part 22: Valkyrie of all people being muffled and translated is quite funny, but the whole "wrong conclusion" trope made me burst out laughing, having forgotten it and just reread it. I like Angus too, hope to see him again, though I'm more interested in the stories of the Twins, Red, Mikey and Captain Dash. Date Night Par 23: Ooh! New one to read now! You seem to have a knack for final panel punchlines, and especially story ones. Whatever other tiny flaws a story might have I'm beginning to see that the final story will always make me laugh. I love that the DACTA news team is slowly revealed as totally party wreckers with everything. And I love the lighting you always have with the Chief. Its not quite ominous, but its certainly got some great shadow work a bit. Mr and Mrs Shwartz: TINY SHWARTZ! He's cute! Adorable. In fact, I'd say this is one of the major reasons I'm so addicted to this comic. The comedy is always (apart from that freakin' scary death one) present, but you've also got a lot of heart in your stories KDog. Sort of like the classic early Simpsons. There's one panel with off lighting but the rest are fine, but damnit, that's not going to ruin this for me. Back on the Job: Continuity porn! I remember this, loved the "Forsooth" speaking Dragons and their Knights of Awesome, which I maintain is the coolest knight name ever. Sorry, tangent. Anyway, is this a one-off, or the first part? I'm getting more and more blurred on what is a continuing storyline and what isn't. I like that too though, adds a sense of mystery. Oh, and gotta feel sorry for Jorge there. Batbrick Away! Quote

KDog Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 This is hilarious! Is there anything that bothers Schwartz? This is one of those cases where I think the tone of what a character was saying didn't come across. I meant Schwartz to be asking "Do you want to stay in the next time we go out?" as actually somewhat sensitive. Their last date, a camping trip, was pretty action-packed and problematic, so he's figuring things will be more uneventful if they stay in. Quote

I like Angus too, hope to see him again, though I'm more interested in the stories of the Twins, Red, Mikey and Captain Dash. Mikey's been featured a lot recently, I thought, and will continue to be. He is one of the main three characters, after all. :) You'll see more of the Twins and Dash soon. Might be a little bit until I return to Red. She has a bigger role to play in the future, though. And I love the lighting you always have with the Chief. That's probably because it's always the same picture. ;-) Mr and Mrs Shwartz: TINY SHWARTZ! He's cute! Adorable. Sonic Screwdriver Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 The characters are every bit as compelling to me as the ones I followed when watching Star Trek or Doctor Who. Thanks for all the great stories, and I always look forward to the next comic Quote

Batbrick Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Fantastic new comics KDog, as always. Good to see you using the fallout (heh, I only just realised why the title is called that now) of the Loch Ness incident, good continuity. Part 1's Sexy McMad at Shwartz was great, but Coldwell's return with his Xenuphobia (yeah, I'm ashamed at that joke) had me cracking up. I always look forward top his return. and Part 3; The twins! These guys are great, looking forward to seeing more of them. And a mysterious 300th comic that is more than a comic? Colour me intrigued and excited! You will see the Hooting Space Monkeys in the near future. This is all I will say. Yes, I recall that being one of the possible titles you listed a while back. Haha, that was so much more simple than I imagined. And catchy. Mikey's been featured a lot recently, I thought, and will continue to be. He is one of the main three characters, after all. :) You'll see more of the Twins and Dash soon. Might be a little bit until I return to Red. She has a bigger role to play in the future, though. Sorry, I meant Ronald. I was suffering a dash of stupidity the day I posted that That's probably because it's always the same picture. ;-) Stop embarrassing me! Thank you. I really try to include heart in the stories. Just because they're little plastic people doesn't mean they can't be real characters. I'd say that is also a part of how even though this comic is turning out much longer than you expected, its also allowed us as readers to really attach to the characters and as a result appreciate the places the story is taking them. Wow, that makes me feel good, as I love both of those shows! :)I always forget that you like Doctor Who, how's the new series going for you?Batbrick Away! Quote
KDog Posted May 3, 2010 Author Posted May 3, 2010 Space: The Comic has posted its 300th comic! Yay! http://drunkduck.com/Lego_Space/index.php?p=697444 It includes a big announcement of a new feature in this comic's landscape... Enjoy! Quote
Batbrick Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Aha! You have surprised us all with this new development, instead of adding a dimension as I predicted, you have taken one away! Genius! But seriously this could be a fun idea, I've enjoyed audiobooks in the past. I'll try and listen to it tomorrow, though I might not be able to as Tuesday is Castle and RedvsBlue day. I'll definitely be around to it soon though. The final lines of the comic are great too, I love the DACTA guys, probably because I'm a sucker for 4th wall humour. -Batbrick Quote
KDog Posted May 3, 2010 Author Posted May 3, 2010 (edited) Aha! You have surprised us all with this new development, instead of adding a dimension as I predicted, you have taken one away! Genius! I could have sat there with LEGO, acting out the scenes as I recorded, but I didn't think that would be very interesting to the listener. ;-) But seriously this could be a fun idea, I've enjoyed audiobooks in the past. Awesome, hope you enjoy! Sorry, I meant Ronald. I was suffering a dash of stupidity the day I posted that Oh, okay. Having just starred in his own mega-opus, Ronald won't be around for a bit, but he's got a lot more coming up. As for the new series of Doctor Who, I'm really digging it. The stories have been solid (although I'm only current as of the Dalek episode) and I think Matt Smith is quickly forging his own way as a Doctor I really like. At first I thought he was just a Tennant rehash, but he has improved and comes across as older and more humble and likeable. Granted, I miss the days of less manic Doctors. Also, the new season seems less childish than a lot of Tennant's era, dropping some of the cheesball stuff that used to make me cringe. Edited May 3, 2010 by KDog Quote
Sonic Screwdriver Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Interesting perspective on Mars. The Audio book really fills in a lot of the details... I had been wondering why Mars seemed so desolate even when places much further away were colonized and or terraformed. Nice to know more about the Martians finally! Quote
