Sonic Screwdriver Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 That's not a good sight...... Ok, I gotta say that sacred me Great conclusion to the story! Quote
Batbrick Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Argh! This last one was very well shot KDog! I know its a sort of heresy to have a darker strip as your favourite in a lighter comic, but this one is easily in my top 5 storylines. It actually creeped me out a bit, and because I sped read it the pure unexpectedness and surreal-ness of it (surreal stuff is my Achilles heel in horror)quite scared me. Awesome stuff, I love how this is going, and the darker light in the moments before the reveal works excellently. Yep, Fleet Admiral McGann is a reference to Paul McGann, who played the 8th Doctor. Good catch! And when the Doctor has appeared in the comic, it's been the 8th. He never got enough adventures, so I figured I'd use him here. :) I can't believe it took me this long to realise. Cool choice going with 8 too, I'm still hoping he shows up for a Doctor's special in NewWho. "Bring Out Your Dead" is definitely about the comic's darker themes and is purposely less humorous. There's one more comic in this storyline, an epilogue of sorts. I like that you've got your priorities straight when it comes to how you want each story to go. I really dislike it when shows attempt a darker episode but still splice it with the more juvenile humour to break the tension. Not tat humour in a darker part doesn't work, but you didn't fall into the trap of making it excessive. I have a tendency to draw or photograph characters facing away from the people they're speaking to and looking into the distance when they're being dramatic. I think I've just done it the most with Freundlich, as this story has been more serious. Good point, though, as I hadn't really considered it might be something he does. It must become his new character trait! Batbrick Away! Quote
Sonic Screwdriver Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 So did what Officer Romero see under the palm tree actually exist, or was it his imagination? Quote
Batbrick Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 So did what Officer Romero see under the palm tree actually exist, or was it his imagination? I actually hadn't thought about this. I assumed it was a blend of both in a sense, that Dash wasn't there physically, but that Romero will be watched by his shadow until the moment is right. It'll be interesting to find out exactly. Sonic Screwdriver Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Hahaha... Schwartz and Valkyrie won't be able to keep the relationship under any sort of wraps much longer Quote
Batbrick Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Heh. I like parts that are about Valkyrie without Shwartz. I'd completely forgotten about her little club, I'm always curious as to why that guy always has his helmet only just open, a tic perhaps? And Masoch will soon be achieving ensemble darkhorse status. Also, I notice you are up for another "Best Comic" nomination, is this the same as last time or bigger? Batbrick Away! Quote

KDog Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 (edited) I can't believe it took me this long to realise. Cool choice going with 8 too, I'm still hoping he shows up for a Doctor's special in NewWho. It must become his new character trait! I want nothing more than for Paul McGann to get more screentime as the Doctor. As for Freundlich talking to people while facing away from them, I purposely included a shot of him doing that in the last part of the story after you mentioned it. :) I actually hadn't thought about this. I assumed it was a blend of both in a sense, that Dash wasn't there physically, but that Romero will be watched by his shadow until the moment is right. It'll be interesting to find out exactly. I purposefully left it ambiguous as to whether Dash was actually there or not. Either way, his message to Romero was, "I'll be waiting." Heh. I like parts that are about Valkyrie without Shwartz. I'd completely forgotten about her little club, I'm always curious as to why that guy always has his helmet only just open, a tic perhaps? And Masoch will soon be achieving ensemble darkhorse status. When I have a bunch of minifigures that all look the same, I try to distinguish them in some way. Keeping Douglas' helmet visor halfway down is just to make him unique. I like that you're always informing me of new writing tropes. :) This comic nomination is the same as last time. It's just Drunk Duck, but it makes me feel good, nonetheless. Hehe, do I win points since I instantly knew the strip was about the mysterious star justice girl just after reading "Jenny (Part 1)"? Batbrick Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I want nothing more than for Paul McGann to get more screentime as the Doctor. As for Freundlich talking to people while facing away from them, I purposely included a shot of him doing that in the last part of the story after you mentioned it. :) I love that McGann is so popular amongst fans despite being in an apparently lacklustre film. And neat! I'm growing to Friendlich, at first he seemed just a comical adversary to Valkyrie, but in his repeat appearances he's really grown to a three-dimensional character who genuinely means well and does his job but just has the most terrific bad luck. His scene at the end of the recent Dash storyline was quite touching. A testimony to your writing, as its that kind that appeals to me most in writing; not how a characters begins, but how he grows. Ah, that's quite clever, and it works especially for the secret meeting type character too. Do you? I'll try to keep doing so, it's a wonderfully informative site that has helped with my own writing, though I'd advise against looking through it much, you'll be there for months :p And don't undersell yourself, new media, including webcomics, are quickly becoming a very well recognised from of storytelling, and not just to us internet geeks either. Hope you win! Anyhoo, Jenny! I recognised the title instantly, you earn points again for playing the Long Game and playing it well. I remember you saying that this plot element was to come after Dash, does this mean that her part can still happen concurrently with the main story (real-life wise, not in-story since it's decades). And grief, where did the two years go huh? Either way, I hope you'll continue making this story, its rare that I can invest in something this much that is outside my usual interests. Batbrick Away! zero1312 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Delicious, can't wait to see more of this..... Quote
KDog Posted August 9, 2010 Author Posted August 9, 2010 This REALLY SUCKS, but the comic has to go on forced hiatus for awhile. And I just came back from it! What happened is my laptop computer suffered a fall. Not that hard of a fall, because I managed to grab the end and slow its descent, but it still landed on its side. Now, it says it can't find any Bootable Devices when I turn it on. I've read that this can be a sign of hard drive failure, in which case I've lost most everything related to the comic. I've been expecting to get a portable drive and back it all up, but apparently didn't do so in time. However, this can also be a sign of something loose inside the computer. I hope that's all this is. But before I open up the computer and look, I'm going to try and get help from someone who knows what they're doing. What's even more annoying is I took photos for the next two comics today, and was turning on the computer to put together the next comic. ARGH!!!! All I can say is, pray. :-/ Quote
Sonic Screwdriver Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 That's terrible! Hope you can get your computer repaired soon. Buy a USB flash drive too. Even a 2-4 GB drive is dirt cheap now and it's handy for quick backups. Quote

Sonic Screwdriver Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Good to see everything worked out for you Jenny's space suit doesn't need air tanks apparently. I guess she and Star Justice are from further in the future than Space Police III. Quote

I guess she and Star Justice are from further in the future than Space Police III. Yeah, Star Justice didn't come with airtanks. Like some other space factions (Mars Mission, the updated Spaceman from the minifigure set) the airtanks seem to be implied as part of the torso print. Now, you don't actually see them with Star Justice, but I imagine they're there. :) Quote

Or alteast I would've (Christian) if it weren't for me noticing your very next post the same minute I saw this one a few days back Loving this Jenny storyline KDog, it seems some information will run concurrently with the main storyline, though I'm doubting it will be resolved until after Dash. Of course, I'm usually wrong. And I'm very, very jealous of you having that collectable Robot fig, I've looked at every toy shop down in Tasmania and there's not a single one here, and I don't want to purchase them online. Oh well. Batbrick Away! Quote
