Lord Thrawn Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Hi guys and gals. I've been working on this figure for a little while, still not sure if it is finished but hey, I've got seas of fellow customisers to help me on that issue. I present to you, Cloud Strife. Image is link. Lots of details in the gallery, take a look at all 3 pics and let me know what you think. (Crossposted with FBTB) Quote
Hinckley Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Wow! I really like it! Several things to talk about: What paint did you use to color the hair? Was it brushed on or sprayed? Are the "sleeves" made of sculpey? How are they attached? Is that a little metal skull embedded in the sleeve/pauldron? Now, that's a sword! What material are you using there? Balso wood. maybe? Ooh, I like those custom legs!! *wub* Nice, I'm glad to see you posting your work here. I thought you'd be a good customizer when I saw your last sig-fig with the cool guitar. Is your sig-fig still murdered, BTW? :-D Can't wait to see more from you. Quote
Lord Thrawn Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 Many points to discuss already! I basecoated the blue hair with Citadel skull white by brush, then brushed on several layers of Humbrol and varnished so it's playable. His pauldron is made of fimo (basically sculpey) boiled for a minute or two in the microave in a mug, then glued onto the arm. That little silver crest is supposed to represent the Cloudy Wolf, yes, and is the end of one of the sprues you get LEGO harpoons on. The sword was made of a bamboo skewer. It was the right shape with very few cuts. Again I basecoated with skull white and used another brand of metallic silver paint and sealed. Ah yeah, that sig fig is dead. Got another one coming up though! Thanks Hinckly. Quote
Hinckley Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 No problem. I recommend a spray paint, I could tell it was brushed. Spray goes on more evenly and looks more official. Same with the varnish. Use a spray gloss varnish. That's my advice. Boiled in a mug in the microwave? I never thought of that. Can you do that with sculpey? I have a hairpiece I need to harden. I assume that mug should never be used to drink out of, huh? 8-| Quote
Lord Thrawn Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 Well if you put water in it should float and it'll be fine. Quote
iamded Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Looks great! The hair looks really neat in blond. Are those legs decals? They look like official printed legs. And of course the sword is fantastic. *wub* Very nicely done, now, how about a Sephiroth? :-P ~Peace Quote
Lord Thrawn Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 Legs belonged to Dash in the original Alpha Team, yes. And Sephiroth is being worked on my friend. :-) Quote
iamded Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Cool! Looking forward to seeing it! *y* ~Peace Quote
Asuka Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 A pretty cool work, a well fitting character with a marvelous sword indeed.... :'-) Quote
Siegfried Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 As probably the biggest Final Fantasy fan here (that sounds like a challenge! :-P ) I love this. *wub* I really wish that Lego had the Square license... :'-( Too many custom Clouds have custom hair and I think that is a mistake. The end result doesn't look Lego enough for me. You have done a great and subtle job here. The pauldron works great. too. Quote
Lamanda2 Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 Very nice! As a fellow Final Fantasy fan myself, I always love to see others' representations of the characters, and this one is quite good. From the way he looks, I assume this is Cloud as he appears in the movie, 'Advent Children'? I've never seen the movie myself, but from the images I have seen he seems to match up better there than as he did in the game. A bamboo skewer sword? Clever use of materials, I would never have thought of that! :-) I'm currently in the middle (OK, I've actually been putting it off for a while now) of updating my old Cloud figure.. Just having a bit of problems with my decals, I want to make sure they are juuust right. "Too many custom Clouds have custom hair and I think that is a mistake." Awww.. don't be dissin' the hair! :-D ~Amanda Quote

Lord Thrawn Posted February 24, 2008 Author Posted February 24, 2008 Thankyou Lamanda and Sinner, your praise means alot coming from Final Fantasy fans and (imo) one of the best customisers. What do you think about adding his waist cape thing from Advent Children? Quote
Siegfried Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 What do you think about adding his waist cape thing from Advent Children? What would you use to make it? Eitherway, I'd love to see you give it a go! *sweet* Quote
Lord Thrawn Posted February 24, 2008 Author Posted February 24, 2008 I would probably cut a LEGO cape or try and use something from MMCB's store. Quote
Lamanda2 Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 Adding the waist cape would definetely enchance your custom quite a bit. I think I would recommend working with Mark over cutting up a perfectly fin LEGO cape, especially since I was so impressed with the custom designs he made for me last time- the man is a genious! :-) ~Amanda Quote
Bobskink Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 I'm no fan of manga characters with thi kind of huge swords, but this one looks really great, nice job. Quote
