MovieMocs Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 (edited) Hello guys, For the last month, I've been working on my Dark Wizards Tower on and off. I really want to go through with this moc but I need your help to finish it. So far I have completed the exterior of 2 sides (Not enough parts for the other 2 sides) and next I am going to be building the interior. There are 5 floors and they all come apart. I need suggestions for 4 things; 1. A Name for the Tower (If I really like it and end up using it, I will send you a free copy of the instructions when there ready :) 2. Ideas for the 4 floors of the tower (Plus the dungeon) 3. An idea for the top, something really cool. 4. Overall feedback on the exterior of the tower and things I can improve. Thanks so much for looking. I'll be updating this thread as I go along. Edited December 9, 2017 by MovieMocs Quote

Littleworlds Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Looks good! There is of course another, Lego black wizard's Tower^^, but yours looks distinctive and stands for itself. I would nevertheless consider adding some dark grey here and there as "highlights", to give it more texture, like stoneworks between black, obsidian-like shining rocks. Maybe incorporate more fires as well. Maybe a light brick or two to create strong visual contrasts and silhouettes. A more asymmetric layout maybe as well, to give it the impression of something magical "grown" out of the lava. Well, your MOC clearly gives me ideas! For interiors I would say, it definitely needs a study, a ritual room, a place for alchemy and maybe an audience room and private chambers. For the dungeon: a hanging cage, wall chains, a lava pit covered with a grate, wild creatures in kennels (maybe a warg from the Hobbit), spiders, snakes and scorpions, thorns, chains, spikes... - all the unsettling stuff And finally some ideas for names: Obsidian Tower, Tower of Doom, Doomsday Keep, Citadel of Darkness, The Black Fortress. WOW Thanks so much. I'll definitely be putting in some dark grey for a little contrast. I'll try to add some asymmetric features, not something I'm used to. For in interior, I've already decided on an alchemy room I was thinking a throne room or entrance hall on the first floor and I like your idea for the study. I love your ideas for the dungeon and I have the most area for that so that's going to be interesting what I fill it with (I think it's almost 32x32!) As far as the names I really like the Citadel of Darkness and The Black Fortress, simple and concise. Something I struggled with through the process of the moc so far is trying not to copy the techniques and design of the LOTR Orthanc Set, especially because when It's sitting across the room from me all day :) (Great set though) Thanks again for all your feedback. This really helps! Quote

I'm glad to hear that! Orthanc is a really cool set, any by its nature very symmetrical. I think some deliberate asymmetry & variation in the colours (well, yes, grey isn't a colour^^) really will help to break the similarities to it. I find designing the interior is usually great fun. So many things to place and arrange. Especially mad scientists and wizards offer really some great material for "storybuilding". The main build itself can be quite tedious for me (stability vs. looks vs. available pieces), but when creating the interior, the ideas just flow. Edited December 9, 2017 by Littleworlds Quote

Unfortunately you can't really have "Just an interior" :) Thanks again for all the help. Quote
Cypirate Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Hello there, Nice work on that evil tower. I think I have an idea for the top of it. Maybe you could add a large energy crystal from which the evil mage could get his magic from. Colour-wise, I think that a bright green could work quite well, contrasting with the black of the tower and red of the lava but that's just an idea. I hope this can give you some inspiration Quote
x105Black Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 This is a nice start at a really cool black tower. Mixing it up with a little more gold, or perhaps some grey could help the details pop a bit more. Quote
Robert8 Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 (edited) LOVE this tower. The bridge looks excellent I suggest The Pandemonium for the name, which means "the place of all demons" I agree with x105Black, the details in the towers itself are barely visible because it's all black. Also, some skeletons here and there would help to create an atmosphere About the top of the tower, maybe a giant gargoyle, some like Chernabog, who can be awakened by the Evil Wizard as the last defense Edited December 20, 2017 by Robert8 Quote
