zoo Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 (edited) Earlier today I noticed that the 42043 MB Arocs and 42054 CLAAS Xerion where listed as "Retiring soon" in the LEGO online store. The Arocs looks to have been sold out for a while and is no longer listed at all as of now. I believe the 42053 Volvo Excavator is now gone too and I never even saw it listed as Retiring soon. Seems to me like there are no actual rules of how long the sets are in production for. The Volvo and CLAAS have only been on sale for little over a year. Is there an active topic somewhere that lists technic sets that are about to go out of production? Edited December 10, 2017 by zoo Quote
zux Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Technic models usually retire year after they were introduced. Quote
valenciaeric Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 (edited) Just now, zux said: Technic models usually retire year after they were introduced. Not exactly. 1hy sets releases in Jan (42052) usually have a 2 year life and retire in December of the following year. 2HY sets released in August (Volvo 42053, Claas 42054) usually have a 1 year and 4 month life cycle, except for flagship models (arocs, Volvo, Mk2 Crane) which have an extra year. There have been some exceptions such as 42021 Snowmobile and 42061 Telehandler and also some 1HY sets get delayed release in the US. Edited December 10, 2017 by valenciaeric Quote
1gor Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 I see some flagsips 3 years here on Croatia but prices for them are twice of those on bricklink...so different situation can be in vareus countries Quote
Pat-Ard Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 (edited) Xerion will retire, because the ugly 6x6 Wrecker is a slow seller... If the Xerion retire, people will buy the Wrecker, because of the tires. Edited December 10, 2017 by Pat-Ard Quote

Then again, I believe the Volvo EW160E sell quite well and it still wasn't produced for a longer period of time than the CLAAS Xerion. Edited December 10, 2017 by zoo Quote
Pat-Ard Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 The Volvo was a part spender - especially for pneumatics... The set itself was quite boring... Quote

I take it there is no such topic then? I thought it would be a useful thing to have an on-going thread where people could post when they see a set being adverticed as "Retiring soon" in the lego online store. I guess I'll assume most sets are produced until end of the year after the year they were first put on sale. Quote

I guess I'll assume most sets are produced until end of the year after the year they were first put on sale. I don´think we need one. Every end of year a bunch of sets retire and Technic retirements are very predictable. All you need to do is see when they were first released. Your statement doesn't contradict mine. The overall idea is that you have time next year (let's say model released in 2016, so you have time in 2017) to buy a set without major issues, high markup or lack of availability. Further down it is not guaranteed. This also slightly differs between the markets. Quote
