Posted February 26, 200817 yr Here we go - some lovely pictures of this gorgeous set. Actually, the pictures aren't as good as I'd like as this thing is SO big it won't fit into my light tent - so apologies in advance if the piccies are a little off. And AWAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY we goooooooooooo!!!!!! The box first: There are four main numbered bags inside with the troll and dragon parts in their own un-numbered bags and all the large elements loose inside. I'm not really one for taking "in progress" pictures, besides I was chatting with my LEGO Association online, so here's the build after bag no 2 was completed - about half way through: And here it is complete: There's a large weapon thingy at the bow: And a prison chamber amidships: On either side of the main hull are two little launches - to encircle the enemy and destroy them! A view from the stern: One of the Troll shields on the side of the vessel - very cool... A bow shot - look out! One of the two sails - these are very nice indeed: Here's a view of the stern of the ship - they seem to have a bit of a rat problem, well, either that or he's lunch: The upper deck - there's a capstan thingy here for reeling in the suspended net above the main deck. Actually, this isn't the most efficient mechanism I've seen and I had to hook the string around one of the handles to get it to work!: The starboard side of the vessel with two of the oars: A view from outside the ship looking at the rear port side - I like this detail: A lovely view of the stern of the ship - I like this bit a lot: Now the crew are on board: A poor Dwarf - captured! A view of the complete ship - manned, or should that be goblined? The spares - odd that I had a whole spare sail! The minifigs: The weapons: Now for one of my favourite bits - the DRAGON! This dragon has armour plate: Finally, some shots of Sir TainDeath riding his dragon: Hope you enjoyed the pictures - I love this set, but I don't know where I'm going to put it! Dr. S. February 26, 200817 yr Holy crap, mate! That's a beautiful set! A whole spare sail? I hope that's official... :-P I like how the launches attach to the back of the ship! I'm glad we get two of each goblin scimitar; two brown, two grey! Sweet reviews ON! X-D Oh, and is it made of the new chocolate brown? I have the Battle Wheel, so I've seen it... February 26, 200817 yr Thank you Doctor Sinister *y* This set is lovely *wub* I can't believe you got an extra sail, what are you going to do with it? *sweet* *y*
February 26, 200817 yr Many tks for that review DS ;-) Excellent indeed !! Oh boy, I can't wait to get my hands on that baby ;-) I didn't know that the side biats are attached to the main ship, thats great !! Also I didn't know that there were a hard cell ;-) So what is that net with the dwarf in it ? shark bait :-P My real grip with that set is the use of the regular helmet on the new orc torso |-/ I wanted to keep the copper helmet on the new torso !! Oh well, nothing a sweet BL order can't remedy !! Tks again for that sweet review ;-) *yoda*

February 26, 200817 yr What a lovely set. *wub* Thank you very much for the review, Doctor! What type of material is used for the sails? Does it have a similar feel as the Viking Longship sail?
February 26, 200817 yr Thanks for the great review Dr. S. *sweet* The ship is very nice... and I love that new brown. *wub* Stunning spare sail too! Am I right to think that the armour is part of the dragons head? Due to room reasons I wasn't for this set, but I'm not so sure now. Thanks Dr. S. 8-|
February 26, 200817 yr Author What a lovely set. *wub* Thank you very much for the review, Doctor! What type of material is used for the sails? Does it have a similar feel as the Viking Longship sail? I don't own any Viking sets - long story - mini dark age - children being born - etc - but I imagine so. It's the same material as minifig capes and the Indy Truck canopy. Thanks for the great review Dr. S. *sweet* The ship is very nice... and I love that new brown. *wub* Stunning spare sail too! Am I right to think that the armour is part of the dragons head?Due to room reasons I wasn't for this set, but I'm not so sure now. Thanks Dr. S. 8-| Yes, the armour is part of the head - the only bit that comes off is the little spike thingy at the back. Oh, and that crawling insect in your signature is REALLY annoying. :-D :-D Dr. S.
February 26, 200817 yr Thanks for the review! *wub* I love the goblin armour and new helmets, I need to pick up the cheapest set that has both 8-
February 26, 200817 yr Thanks for that great review Dr. S! I like the mini boats on the side. The dragon is cool. And great pictures! Edited February 26, 200817 yr by ~VBBN~
February 26, 200817 yr Excellent review Dr. Sinister. Your images are very good quality and very crisp. I love the ship. This is a great addition to the Castle line-up and probably the best of the 2008 sets (at least so far). I really like the cage and how the railing is constructed. The ship is large enough to give you some room to add some addition details, which is a plus. The small row boat is a nice plus too. Overall, a great set. I'm looking forward to buying. The only thing is that I have to break out all my Castle sets again, just when I was enjoying Indy. Great review and thanks for sharing! *y* PS. On a side note, I'm admiring your counter top. Is that quartz?
February 26, 200817 yr The set looks beautifull, I'm in love *wub* Thanks for the fantastic review!! You've cleared any and all doubts I had about buying this magnificent set. Can I say something though? Your dragon has no horns, yet on the box it has two white horns on its armored head. You have a bit too many white horns left over, so I wonder, did you perhaps overlook a bit of the instructions? Or did you just not include them because you thought they didn't look well? Anyway, thanks for the great revieW!! *y*
February 26, 200817 yr Thanks for the awesome review Dr. Sinister! The set is a lot better then I initially thought it would be. Especially that drummer troll! I just might have to buy it, if it's not too pricey. General Tarful
February 26, 200817 yr Nice review. Those little boats are horribly and inexcusably empty. Poor show, Lego. I'm also not sure I like the new prison door, though it is nice to have a smaller one. I'd rather they made a dwarf-sized house door instead. Beyond that it looks like a good set. Now the crew are on board: They're not going to get very far. Just going to go 'round in circles. X-D Steve
February 26, 200817 yr WOW!! Thanks for such wondeful review! :'-) This is a "MUST" get set for all Castle Lovers and i look the layout of this ship!! Maybe, i can use it to compare with the Viking ship =x
February 26, 200817 yr I'm loving the new dark brown. Unlike reddish brown which was a major step backwards from the original (and superior) old brown, dark brown is amazing! I really hope we see alot more of this colour in the future. Those dark brown arches at the back of the ship would be perfect for making trees, and the colour seems ideal for dark wood furniture. Now all we have to do is wait until LEGO actually produces enough pieces to make it useful.
February 26, 200817 yr It's... wonderful... :'-) Thanks for this fantastic review, Doctor Sinister, with great pics! From the online instructions the ship looked black, which was not good, you couldn't tell what went where. I assume the real instructions are better though. If it's not too much to ask, could we see some more pics of the troll's armour? Thanks. *sweet* Again, great review! Also, a sneaky way of showing off your IJ army. X-D Very cool also! ~Peace
February 26, 200817 yr Thanks for all the pics! I like the set but it'll probably fall outside my budget. :'-( Too many great sets this year. My only nitpic is that those trolls/orcs/goblins are gonna really be stuck on those small boats with no oars.
February 26, 200817 yr HAHAHA i always assume it's there on my screen i'm gonna go buy this set just so i can have the big green dude and short legs, awesome boat too!
February 26, 200817 yr Thanks for the review Dr.S, this is a fantastic set with an excellent minifig lineup. I love the sails, that extra one might prove useful for mocing, and the boat is much less empty than the Viking one. Overall its great, apart from the overpricing, and I love that Dark Brown! *wub* Batbrick Away! >:-)
February 26, 200817 yr Excellent review! Lots of lovely dark chocolaty brown. Yum! Is the dragon's helmet separate from its head, or is it all a single moulded piece?
February 26, 200817 yr It appears the helmet is inseperable from the head. The dragon looks like a Parasaurolophus to me. You know... that dinosaur in Jurassic Park with that "one horn" on the back of its head.
February 26, 200816 yr That could be transformed into a spectacular galley. one question what brown is that? Red brown dark brown and Old brown? Edited February 26, 200816 yr by Captain Ka-Boom
February 26, 200816 yr That could be transformed into a spectacular galley. One question what brown is that? Red brown Dark brown and Old brown? It's the new 'Chocolate' brown. And it looks great. I cannot wait to get this set! The dragon is amazing! Too bad I live in the US, it hasn't been released here yet. :'-(
February 26, 200816 yr Thanks for the review Dr.S. I look forward to getting this set. I personally think it could do wit one or two more trolls but that doesn
