The gnome nods to each of the Ziegfrieds as they are introduced, carefully noting their titles, and raises his eyebrows as the younger male Ziegfried's address is given simply as 'half-brother'. "Met and now introduced," the gnome remarks to no one in particular. "And I'm enchanted, to be sure. But back to the matter at hand, what is going on in Eubric?"

Arthur clears his throat awkwardly, grateful to the gnome for drawing away his focus from painful matters.  "O-of course, where are my manners.  Heroes, these are my second-cousins, Secondary Spiritist Mabel Ziegfried--" Arthur gestures to the tan-clad Ziegfried "--and Minor Occultess Chesterine Ziegfried," he finishes, indicating the pink-hatted Chesterine.  "And of course, you've already met my half-brother Noel."

"Where are my manners! Thank you for the introduction Arthur."

"Well yes there is that, Chesterine. I think the poor gnome might have been asking in general. Realistically, Mr. Matthias, we're not quite sure. It's been a bit hectic around here as I'm sure you can imagine, what with this rioters outside our door lately." Mable takes a sip from her tea. "Now I won't deny, we have our fair share of somewhat scandalous incidents, mostly all accidental mind you. But the way that dreadful paper made it sound, you'd think we were sacrificing our children to demon lords on purpose! And even so, how the Herald ever got wind of some of those stories... the only other people involved were folks from your own organization."

"You didn't tell them about my journals." Chesterine rolls her eyes.


"Ah yes, someone apparently looked through Chesterine's journals."

"They had a spell-lock. The magic smelled like a dwarf."


"Since when does magic smell, dear Chesterine?"

"And as I told Dyric before, I asked Lord Knyghton to send in a squad of Skirmishers to gather information for us, only for them to end up locked in the Embassy.  After that, trying to call in any more outside help didn't seem like such a great idea."

"You mean the 'veterans'? That's coincidentally what we're here to talk about. We have reason to believe that they aren't who they say they are. In fact, we found the corpse of one of the veterans themselves, very much dead. Now, I know this is a lot to ask and that Sycamore was the Necromancer in this family, but is there anyone you know or any resources you have that could help us get some information about what's going on?"

"No, I meant heroes. You're the only other ones who knew about our 'family' issues. If you're talking about the Dragon Lord, we read about that in the paper, I don't see how helping the veterans out now that the Founders are in charge would do anyone any good. I'm still not quite sure what your asking about Althior."

Excuse Athior, it wasn't one of the veterans, it was one of the Founders. We found the tomb and corpse of the Golden Dragon herself. These men and women traipsing around the city now are fakers, and we believe having the actual Golden Dragon at our side will be a vital tool to bring Heroica, and Eubric, back to order.

The tomb was sealed with an intricate lock. There were no signs of tampering. For that matter, getting direct confirmation was part of our motivation for reviving her.

Indeed? ...the request stands. If you can broker a conversation, we should be able to get any of the answers we need.

We didn't want to risk harming the Golden Dragon's remains. She's still down there, but the path is clear.

Something the lady wizard said earlier sticks in Matthias' ears. "I'm sorry to go backwards, but no, we aren't sure it's actually the Golden Dragon; all the evidence seems to say yes but the very reason we wanted to consult with you is that we have no way of knowing. And if you can only reach the 'faintest glimmer' of memories, that may not help anyway." The gnome ponders for a moment. "I don't suppose there is any way you can converse with the dead without a body? I mean, a way to reach their souls in whatever plane of existence they inhabit after death?" The question itself troubles Matthias. Bearing Orrick's anvil means the gnome is certain of his deity's existence, but even immortality provides little certainty about the condition - or possibility - of an afterlife.

"That would be if we raised the body. If you simply wish to communicate with the spirit, their memories should be intact."

I mean they're dead, so probably not. But if you come with us to the Dragon House and help us out, that's a solid amount of quality time with your favourite gnome. Maybe the two of you can set up coffee for after this whole thing blows over. If you don't come with, though, we go to the house and back and you and Matthias barely get a conversation.

Matthias wishes his legs were long enough to kick Rone under the table... and he wishes there was a table to kick him under. Taking a comically big gulp of air behind his comically big hat, the gnome gives his best impression of a sweeping bow from a seated position and just barely manages not to drop his topper on the floor. "Why yes, I'd be enchanted to have you along for our quick and very safe," Matthias eyes the Ziegfried matron with another gulp, "dragon ride to the Dragon House. Mi'lady."

Arthur observes the interaction between Matthias and Chesterine with an ever-growing maniacal grin.  Something in the ex-Mage's expression suggests a hope that the pair share more than just one coffee once the city was saved, and an aim to help should it become necessary.

"Or if you say the way is cleared, Matthias could stay here and you could fetch the body, right?" Chesterine thinks for a moment. "But, I've been cooped up in here just waiting for the ice-cream social, this will be a welcome distraction."

"Aye, I'm sure the lil' guy'll lead us back safely." Atramor smirked a bit, and his eyes slid to Arthur. "How 'bout you, mate? This is kinda an all hands on deck sorta situation, hero or no." He tilted his head towards the everpresent Bellanotte.
