Shoc Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Guys, I'm picking up the PC version of the game today, so I'll have some first impressions posted by tonight. Stay tuned! And maybe some screenshots too? Nah, you'll probably be too busy having fun. :skull: Quote
yellost Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I've played through the first 3 levels of the PS2 version. It's really nice, although very much like LEGO SW and LEGO Indiana Jones. I t felt more satisfying in here than in LEGO Indy but it missed the NEW factor of the LEGO SW (that and I'm much more a fan of SW than Batman ) But the tongue in cheek humor is still as good as ever and the atmosphere of the whole thing is very well rendered. And there's still so much to do to unlock everything... Quote
Zarkan Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 As promised, here’s some impressions based on playing 6 of the levels and wandering around the two hub areas. Before I start though, here’s a little notice about the characters. When I went to pick up the game, I looked in the official Prima strategy guide – which had the seemingly full list of characters inside. Sadly, it looks like neither Firefly, Ventriloquist, or Maxie Zeus made the cut. Now, as for the actual gameplay, Lego Batman is as fun as any of the previous lego games – if not more so. The new features like suits, batarangs, and far more enjoyable combat really make the game a blast. Unfortunately, there’s a couple of problems. For one thing, the physics are wonky as ever, so expect to die a lot at first. The game also suffers from poorer partner AI than the previous games – partners occasionally get stuck, and sometimes just won’t do what you want them too. Other than that, the game has few faults. The graphics are one of the best parts – seriously, considering that this is a lego game, they are amazing. The scenery and backgrounds are beautiful, and there’s plenty of effects and detail like mist in the batcave, shadows, and plenty of other stuff. This game seriously makes the lego starwars series look outdated in comparison. Also, the cutscenes are as funny as always. If you like Robin, however, you might not like them – since Batman’s faithful sidekick is treated as a complete goofball and clumsy nut. The characters also seem to be a lot more vocal than in previous games – their voices are louder and more expressive. One more thing I liked is that each character has their own style of fighting. Riddler is a master at twirling that staff of his, while Clayface is a powerhouse that can shoot clay and attack with clay hammers and giant fists. Overall, I’m loving this game, and I can’t wait to see what else is in store. Quote
Pencoin Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) Snip So who are the characters? Also I can't say I belive you. Everything you mentioned was stuff we already knew. Also my secret sauce told me he thinks catwoman has 3 costumes. Black, pink and red/orange. Edited September 24, 2008 by Pencoin Quote

Zarkan Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) So who are the characters? Also I can't say I belive you. Everything you mentioned was stuff we already knew. Also my secret sauce told me he thinks catwoman has 3 costumes. Black, pink and red/orange. That's just it - the only new characters I saw in the guide were minor characters - Ra's looks to be the last new baddie. Wait, you don't believe me? Come on, it's not like the game is hard to get in the US - I preordered it from Gamestop and picked it up yesterday. I don't like that you're accusing me of lying, Penicoin. Still, to prove I do have the game, here's some detailed info on some of the levels: - The second level has you build contraptions that fire purple bubbles at vans, and freezing vats of ice cream over so you can walk on them. - The batmobile level features batman using a towcable to pick up riddler's vans, making the levels similar to the LSW levels. - The fourth level is in Poison Ivy's greenhouse, where you fight giant venus flytraps and encounter a lot of sad gardeners walking around. - The fifth level is the showdown with Riddler and Two Face. You cross over to a giant bank/money reserve, where lasers guard the normal entrance. You can use an armored car to break down the barriers in front of the entrance, which reveal tan bricks that you can build into a dollar sign on the top of the bank (this reveals a canister). - The fifth level's boss battle features a swamp boat that you use to ride over acid, and Riddler temporarily mind controls Two Face with his staff in the last part. - The ending cutscene has all five of the baddies in the first set of levels in Arkham: Clayface is doing pottery, Mr-Freeze is playing with action figures, Poison Ivy is watering a small garden, Two Face is flipping his coin, and Riddler is grasping the bars in anger. - The credits show concept artwork as they roll. - The first villian level with Riddler and Clayface has you build a wrecking crane to break through gates, and the ending cutscene has Clayface going crazy over bars of gold (he even builds a small house with them ). There, is that enough info? Edited September 24, 2008 by Grevious Quote
Professor Flitwick Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Well Grevious, i'm on the fences with whether you have or not, though I still wouldn't say no to a few answered questions 1.What is the first level? 2.What characters can you buy after the first level character wise (I pla to go on a bit of a shopping spree)? 3.Are there only 5 levels per chapters? 4.Are you sure there's no Ventrilaquist, Firefly or Zeus. There's no shilouet that looks like him? 5.How do you, owner of the game, think Ra's and Hush would be unlocked? 6. Are the character like catwoman with multiple costumes unlocked, or are they turn on/off extras? 7.How and were is the build a character? 8.Whats the villians hub, Arkham Asylum, like compard to Wayne Manor? If the answer to 4 is 'i'm positive, theres no Ventrilaquist, Firefly or Zeus in the game', do any of you find it infuriating we get these random, never before seen in the Batman universe ever (though I could be wrong) instead of multiple villians we all know and love? Would you not rather have Ventrilaquist, Firefly and Zeus over Yeti, Freeze girl and a construction worker? Quote
???theriddler??? Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I know some awnsers: 1.What is the first level? You can bank on batman, the villains is clayface 3.Are there only 5 levels per chapters? Yes 4.Are you sure there's no Ventrilaquist, Firefly or Zeus. There's no shilouet that looks like him? Yes 7.How and were is the build a character? I think there is not Quote
Zarkan Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Well Grevious, i'm on the fences with whether you have or not, though I still wouldn't say no to a few answered questions Okay, this is really getting annoying. Why is it that people aren't trusting me about this? There's no reason at all to suspect that I'm not telling the truth - unless you simply don't know me well at all. I don't make up information, end of story. If you want proof, here's some: Character Purchasing: Arkham: Villian Level Selection: Quote
hewkii9 Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) No Maxie? NO MAXIE? Well i'm just not getting the game then Grevious, could you give us a pic of Ra's once you unlock him? Edited September 24, 2008 by hewkii9 Quote
trooperdavinfelth Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) I think you are overly critical and very unfair at Greivous! I got the game yesterday and I have to say I really enjoy it! The gameplay is just thrilling: everything I expected. By all means, get it! You won't be dissappointed, I promise! EDIT: Although I'm taking it slow. There's 30 levels and I've only got a Riddler's Henchman(green shirt, black knit cap) and Riddler's Goon(lime suit and hat). I'll tell you more as I go along; I'll go slow so I can keep ya'll posted. Edited September 24, 2008 by trooperdavinfelth Quote
Pencoin Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I belive now, I'm very very disappointed at TT and I shall now not bye the game because of this. Quote
???theriddler??? Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 How do you do a batarang? I don't beat the last two harts of clayface. Quote
???theriddler??? Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I'm past now , and it'sthe best lego game ever! Just love it, and for the batarang, just hold the action button. If you want too arkham, you must complete a story. And you can create your owne caracter at the villains hub. But i can't find the artefacts for the villains. Great game, there is only one thing i verry HATE! You mate, i always play alone, but in the last level of the riddler, if you must two-face the first time, and if you must clime into the bank, this is verry anoying, that's only the -thing. Quote

You mean all five missions of a story, right? I've finished two stories in the Penguin's game(that submarine is MASSIVE!), one in the Riddler, and none in the Joker's(gotta love the clown goons!). I need to get to the leftmost crate which is above me in the first Joker mission. Well, anyway, where exactly is the Arkham door? Is it that door in the corner of the library? I forgot to go there... And to think I've missed all this fun if it is... Also, after you win a Penguin Mission you can see(I think) the Ventriloquist. He's an angryish guy with a widebrimmed hat and he's slightly to the right of the top left area of the board which you see(the Penguin's, mind you) after you complete a mission. ???theriddler??? Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) Yeah you must complete all five the chapters of one story, but the door is a lever, when you at the hero's mission room, then go to the left, up, and then to the right, there is a lever, but guys PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, help! How do you defeat harley quinn? Second level joker. EDIT: Just beat it, you must follow her, but she must not stop, and after a few seconds, she gets tired and you can punch here. . Edited September 25, 2008 by ???theriddler??? Quote
trooperdavinfelth Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Yeah, it says you need to complete a story to use the lever which is offline. So that lever opens the door in the corner of the library? I think I'll shoot for the Riddler... Just for you, mate. Quote
???theriddler??? Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 No, if you put the lever, you go to the screen next to you and you go to arkham, and there you can also pull a lever etc. And if you go to the left, you can choose the episodes, and to the right, you can make your owne cracter, anybody find the canisters area for the villains? On penguins team, or in arkham? Any idea on how Hush or Ra's are unlocked? What did Scareface look like? Thanks in advance! Quote
ChewyLuke Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Hush is unlocked by saving all 25 civilians. On the mission select screen a smiley face will tell you that you saved the civilian in that level and a frowny face will tell you that you still need to save the civilian in that level. Quote

Thats a bit different, isn't it? Reminds me of Metroid. I wonder how to unlock Ra's, Alot of gaming sites are up in arms trying to unlock him. My guess is that you must find every shadow minikit. hewkii9 Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Because of Maxie? Or what? Of course, LEGO and TT really [to quote the Office's Michael Scott] screwed the pooch on this one. Quote
