SheepBlubber Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Hi, I based this ship off the fictional whaling ship "Essex" from the movie "In the Heart of the Sea" and the "Colour of the Wind" by Legostone https://www.flickr.com/photos/legostone/. The colour scheme and the fact that the ship is a whaler were based of the "Essex" but the ship itself is based off the "Colour of the Wind". Xebecs were ships used pretty much only in the Mediterranean as either pirate or trading ships and there are no examples of them being used as whaling ships meaning that this ship is slightly unrealistic. Any feedback is appreciated and there are more photos on my Flickr. IMG_3942 by SheepBlubber, on Flickr IMG_3943 IMG_3945 IMG_3946 IMG_3947 IMG_3948 by Quote
Cousarmy0001 Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 An interesting build! We don't get very many xebecs here, I can only think of one or two others the whole time I've been active on this forum. The entire set is pretty simple, and has good playability. For a constructive criticism, I would suggest trying to make the curves in the hull a little less abrupt, and maybe try to make it so that you don't have the center portion be so straight. Basically, try to taper the lines a little more so the overall shape of the hull is smother. Alternately, add in some color to the hull to try and break up the straight lines a little. Maybe build a few ladders into the hull, and add a couple of scuppers to each side to further break things up. Quote
Tezclatipoca Posted January 16, 2018 Posted January 16, 2018 A very promising build ! For a xebec it is quite nice ! Even if I would join Cousarmy on the curvature, you should try to smoother the lines. Another thing I would suggest is to use tiles on the railing or make a SNOT one as it seems unfinished here, seing you've used grillaged bricks at the rear it seems strange to switch it to normal bricks after that. All in all it is a nice ship ! Good job ! Quote
LM71Blackbird Posted February 17, 2018 Posted February 17, 2018 Nicely built ship. Good amount of details and great job on the overall design! Quote

Well, you looked into the wrong forum then ;) I have posted 3 Xebecs in BOBS so far (Colour of the Wind, Oscuridad and Mercury). As for criticism - Cousarmy is pretty much on point, but I gotta say, I like the bow a bit more then on mine . As well as that - lots of nice details on the deck Quote
