I mean, is it narratively necessary to have them grow-up right away if there were to be a follow-up? Couldn't it just be set during the following summer? Not really necessary, but it would just feel a bit forced and seem like more of the same if they just went back for the same kind of adventures the next summer. A bigger time jump would give us a new dynamic between the characters, a new adventures, and maybe even new setting(s). Besides, growing up was a big theme in the show, so it would be fascinating to see what the characters actually became. Another idea would be a Gravity Falls holiday special where the kids come to visit their uncles for Christmas that same year. That way they'd be the same age, but we would still get to see something new by seeing the town during winter. The plot could revolve around the kids trying to prove if Santa is real or not (Mabel thinks he is, Dipper doesn't) and they end up fighting Krampus or something. That would give us something we haven't seen before without stretching out the story too much and give Mabel a great opportunity to wear more tacky sweaters. Quote

I see where you're coming from, though I don't think a sequel set during the following summer has to be a retread of the same kinda adventures they had previously, as I'd want them to instead narrow their focus on diving deeper into the history and mystery of Gravity Falls itself, something they never really got down to the bottom of with Weirdmageddon intervening and all. 10 hours ago, Oky said: Another idea would be a Gravity Falls holiday special where the kids come to visit their uncles for Christmas that same year. The only certain thing I'd want see is an episode or sequence that'd essentially be something like the Bottomless Pit episode meets A Tale of Two Stans, where Great Uncles Stanford & Stanley recount to the others a "Stan-O'-War" adventure of theirs in the Arctic around an evening campfire in their own banter-like manner.
