"Cpt. Mumbasa? Bloody hell, that name is familiar. A were-lion for sure, but one of the paladins? Why can't I remember? No, no. He took us to Goetia, I think that was it. He was a good sort, and likely still friendly, but would he write such an article? Seems doubtful. Amelia Cainwright also sounds like a name I might have heard around the hall before, but I can't be sure. Are any of the names familiar to you?"

Vindsval reluctantly vacates his comfortable chair and looms over the book.

No, None of these are familiar to me.  It may cause some apprehension, but perhaps those of us with the gift of the silver tongue could simply go room to room.

"I don't think they ring a bell to me either. But I want to check out the empty room. I don't know why, but I've got a feeling about that room."

"While I'm not familiar with any of these names I think I recognize the Aunt here as one of the Sisters of Danab who hired several heroes to act as security during their congress in Salamandria. I actually signed up for that one, I wasn't chosen to go, but still."

Brother's Wolf, what would it cost me to have access to your vacant room for a short time?

“As I told the lady, 50 Gold for the evening. If you’re all staying in the same room you’ll be cozy.”

"And how much would it cost us to have a brief look inside?"

Karie places fifty gold down.

"Put the room name under Bridgette Smith. I might be returning in the evening."

"Certainly. Here's the key." The werehound hands Karie a small brass key.

Skrall lowers his voice speaking to Karie,

Karie nods and pockets the key. She moves Skrall away from the innkeeper and speaks to him in a hushed voice.

"What's on your mind? We're at this inn, and we seem to be getting close to our supposed contact. What do you think is going on?"

"How not right?" Kiray asks. "Impending ambush? Trap?"

"Is it the fact that they left out Room 4?" I whisper. "I noticed that. But not frequenting inns much, I don't know if certain ones omit numbers. Still odd, don't you think?"

"It's worrying, to say the least." Karie replies. She looks around, worried about unwanted attention. "Let's go up to our room and we'll discuss it some more upstairs."

"Superstition? Or maybe something, or someone, is in there they don't want us to see?" Kiray starts to walk towards the stairs. "LEt's get settled and then check out Room Number Four."

Sounds like a plan.  It would do us no good for me to go knocking on doors, asking for information.

"Just...what are we actually expecting to find?"

"A friend hopefully, come on." said Throlar before turning to ascend the stairs.

Kiray searches the chest. "Maybe something of note was left?"

Inside the chest, Kiray finds a few blankets and buried beneath that a potion.

Vindsval Searches the Bed.

There were always places beneath a mattress or headboard to hide that which you felt was best unseen.

Vindsval's search only manages to turn up a trashy novella.
