With much care and stealth and a bit of insight from Pretzel, Karie, and Throlar, the party manages to evade the patrols, ducking into the sewers at the last moment as a patrol rounds the corner. Trudging forward the group finds path after path blocked off, barricaded with numerous cave-ins. At long last they reach an unblocked path ending in a barred door. A knock upon the door and a familiar smiling face greets the heroes.

"I was wonderin' when some of ya were goin' to show up. 'Bout time if ya ask me."

Vindsval, his head and shoulders bowed in the confines of the sewers narrows his eyes at ogre, but tries not to sound too out of sorts.

Brownskin, we are covered in the blood of those whose only crime was to follow the orders they were given and the slime of city above.  If you would simply allow us in we can move forward in this thing that we find ourselves mired in.

"I'm sorry, who are you?"

(OOC: WBD, you have Throlar's stats written down twice there.)

"Skrall, Knight of the Wolfgang."

Karie was never used to the sewers, she figured most people weren't. Moving through the sewers she couldn't help but feel ghosts of the past lingering around her in the enclosed gloom. The cave ins and barricades didn't help. Coming to the barred door, Karie was greeted by the first good surprise in a long while.

"Skrall! It's good to see you again!" Karie grinned back. She wanted to give the hunter a hug, but found her current space too cramped to move too close. "What exactly are you doing down here?"

Skrall smiles,

"I take it yer the half-born." Skrall waves an envelope, "Right mess it sounds like ya've got all of us in. Can't be helped though, twas bound to happen sooner or later if ya ask me. Trust me, ya did the right thing. I'd be obliged to let ya come through, ya're travelin' with two of our leaders after all." The ogre nods his head to Jacq and Kukulkan.

The ogre bolts the door behind them, leading the party deeper into the sewers. Eventually the tunnel opens up into a large chamber, a waterfall flowing down one wall. There the wolfheaded Ulric looks up from a table spread with maps.

"No thanks to Heroica, Ulric."

"Is that a fact? Well then, it seems I owe you all some gratitude for ensuring the safety of my compatriots." Ulric sips slowly from a tankard off a nearby table. "I can't say I've been properly introduced to all of you, though some of you look a bit...familiar." Ulric's eyes land on Karie.

Vindsval extends his arm of flesh to clasp forearms with the ogre.  It is good to speak with someone nearly as tall.

I am indeed the Half-born, Scorpion Knight, Vindicator of the Wanderer,  but I am Vindsval to those who would call me friend.

He looks around the enormous room and its strange wolfed motif.

This is quite the impressive lair. One could almost feel at home here, if it weren't far below the skies.

A rare sentiment indeed, rare indeed.  There are few through my years that have welcome those not of the yellow hue.  How come you to be here?  This is far from both your homeland and the hall.

Well met fanged one, are you the Wolfking of whom I have heard much.  Both of good an ill?  We made it here with none upon our path but our own.  What do you mean by remedy?

Karie grins, although it's clearly solemn. She'd known Skrall was supporting Ulric for awhile, something she hoped she'd be able to look past. "Well, I'm at least glad you're safe. Let's get moving before more uninvited guests arrive."

Karie follows Skrall down the winding paths deep into the sewers until she finals makes it to the Wolf's Den. She marvels at the large wolf headed waterfall trickle down into the waters below, her eyes leading her to Ulric.

Ulric. Finally. It felt like forever. Four and a half years with only a letter and a medal's worth of contact, but finally Karie had made it to Ulric Wolfkin, leader of the Wolfgang and her late sister's lover. She felt a weight plummet into her stomach and a slight dizziness. She steeled herself.

Karie tossed Ulric the Medal of Valour, pulling out the letter it came with as well.

"Four years ago during Grogmas you sent me a letter, saying that I was welcome in this den so long as I brought this along with me. I've waited that long for an opportunity to meet you in the flesh. I thought about what I'd do, what I'd say, what might transpire. I don't think I ever imagined it would play out like this.

Ulric, I'm Kayla's sister. My name is Karie Alderflask." Karie waits for a moment, hesitant on her next move. She grips her instruments, before loosening her grip. She puts her weapons close by to her but off her person and moves up to Ulric's table, taking a seat. She takes some of Ulric's ale and pours herself a drink. She quickly drinks from the tankard and relaxes. "You're a lot shorter than I imagined."

"Skrall, Knight of the Wolfgang."

"Pleased to meet you. I'm Throlar Wineghilm."

Throlar followed the ogre down through the sewers and into the massive chamber, stopping briefly to gaze at the massive sculpture that dominated the room.

"Well," he said, "someone had a lot of time on their hands."

He flinched briefly at the sight of the two people, Walbartan and Hodurr, he remembered from Babeleth. Hoping they wouldn't recognize him he sidled over to the Copper Fox.

"Jacq, if that's your name, may I talk to you for a moment?"

Kiray gives a respectful nod to both Skrall and Ulric. "An honor to have been serving you and this organization," Kiray says, her chest swelling with pride. "As you may well be aware, all that's left of Heroica is working to get the bottom of this debacle. We've been sent here as we have ties to you. Do you have any idea what is going on?"

She notices Karie speak about her sister and her king's relationship. "And if I may add, since we're speaking of those dear to us, do you have any idea what happened to Diana?"

"There's word she has it in for someone at the Town Watch. Her father was recently killed you know." Ulric pauses, "As for these 'Founders', I have as much trust in them as the houses that they have Eubric's best interest in mind. They showed up out of nowhere just as the city was on the brink of a civil war and 'saved the day', awfully suspicious if you ask me. You've had interactions with them, anything off?"

"If this was four years ago I would've run you through with a sword, but it's not four years ago, now is it? I don't blame you for Kayla's death, but ultimately Ulric, trying to get me join your cause isn't going to help you. You're not Kayla's murderer. She joined the Wolfgang of her own free volition." Karie stopped, searching for words. She planned for this moment for so long, and yet now that she was here she felt no need for revenge, no need for Ulric's death, at least not yet. Karie drank from her mug again. "You're the only person I've met who truly knew Kayla. What was she like?"

I sit quietly down at the table and listen to the conversations.

So it seems they all have their own reasons for being here other than the common good...well, I guess that is true for myself as well.

"I had never met the Founders, and the only veteran I can remember meeting, and who seemed decent, was the recently slain Dragonlord. For these Founders, they seem dictatorial. They're saying Heroica has been infested and rotten and needs to be changed. Yes, that is true to an extent, but the restructuring seems a little over the top. They'll be worse than the Houses at this rate, if they aren't already."

It is good then that this is open to our cousins.  If these Paladins continue to rise in power it may soon become an inhospitable place for anyone of green skin or black eye.

The one claiming to be the giant seems to favor conflict.  The woman styling herself to be the Dragon acted the more level headed of the two.  While it was she who claimed the authority of banishment, she at least spoke of patience and examination.

Vindsval looks ascance at the two he held esport here, the two who were the cause of the spilled blood in the tavern.

If we had not been forced to choose sides between the paladins and these two, it may yet of have a peaceful exchange.

"Violetta... Kayla, as I mentioned was a proud young woman and it was her greatest strength and yet ultimately her downfall. Your sister... she had a gift, never had I seen one such as passionate to prove herself, never one so skilled in her craft. Yet for all of her bravado, I always knew she yearned for a different life, one where in she need not steal, nor deceive, nor betray. During the late night hours she would sing to herself. Songs about loss, about hurt, about love... I could not satisfy everything in her life, my work was too important, but I could give her hope... It's been many years since I took her in... many years since the ball... many years since you banished the witch who almost tore my cause apart. I do not ask you to join me, I ask you to join Kayla, Karie. Join what she envisioned, what she hoped for, what may still come to pass all these years later."

Karie didn't know what kind of answer she'd receive. She didn't know whether or not to even believe Ulric's statements about her sister.  Karie leaned back in her chair and exhaled, swirling her mug, looking Ulric over, trying to get a read, but ultimately finding it useless. She'd made up her mind before she even came here.

"I came here Ulric not to join the Wolfgang, and not to support you. I instead came here to ensure this city doesn't collapse in on itself. If there's one thing Kayla and I have in common, it's ultimately a desire to see this city improve into something that's not a corrupt sinkhole for the houses. I think the two of us can agree that the houses were ultimately fuelling this dumpster fire of a situation we're in, Ulric, what with the Sungold Alliance and the Crescent Union. I've heard of what the Wolfgang has done to help the poor, and I find it admirable. Hel, I'll go another step and say that what I've heard of your proposed laws I like most of them: stop greenskin slavery, end the corruption in the watch, and actually look into improving the lives of those in the Hovels: the houses weren't going to change any of that. They were more than happy to turn a blind eye and look the other way in order to make themselves look better." Karie reflects intensely, knowing that she'd have to watch what she said in order to appease both Ulric's sense of duty and her own increasingly morphing sense of morality. It was time for Karie to take command and direct this show. This could be her magnum opus: her great performance. She hoped deep down that her daughter was alright.

"I'm not here to join the Wolfgang or its cause. I'm not here to support your claim to this throne that everyone keeps yammering on about, because in my mind. I'm here to save this city, the city that Kayla wanted to see be better than it is today for my child, and my child's children, and that's where my position lies. From what I've heard of you, you've been benevolent to those who would disagree with you. I hope we can come to an agreement now and figure out politics later." Karie crossed her arms, looking to Ulric for his reply. She wanted to get to gathering intel, but she needed to be clear on her stance. She would not support Ulric on the throne.

"Do you know where your three generals are buried, Ulric? Do you know where... Kayla's buried?"

"Steerpike actually had a plot in the Cemetery. Donny wished to be buried in Triad Park, Kayla's in the Hanging Gardens."

"Aye, the dead should stay dead."

Ulric shrugs,

"These Founders are turning out to be a thorn in my side and if my suspicions are correct, they're giving the people of this city a false hope that they cannot fulfill on. I think we can both agree that's the last thing this city needs. Figure out what's going on and that we'll discuss politics afterwards."

"Agreed." Karie nods. "For the time being Ulric, I believe what remains of Heroica and the Wolfgang can come to an alliance. Once this is over we'll talk politics."

Karie pauses thinking over the information provided. "We still have no idea who the Council are going to be resurrecting, or to what extent. We're still going off the assumption that the Founders are not actually the Founders, so I doubt the Miracle Worker could actually bring back to life the people they intend to to the extent the actual Miracle Worker was capable of in legend. I don't know what good resurrecting the Wolfgang Generals will do for them, but it was merely a thought I had." Karie mulls over information as it comes at her, trying to unlock the secrets of the puzzle before her. Part of her was also happy to learn where Kayla was buried. She hoped after all this was over to have her remains moved to the cemetery proper.

"That's not the only thing weirding me out about these Founders, either. Does anyone have a copy of tonight's Eubric Herald? The one with the Founders on the front? I just need the front page."

"Here, I snagged a copy of their smug mugs on my way out of the Lady Luck."

"Thanks." Karie looked over the photo again, grinning and nodding to herself as her suspicions were confirmed. "Just as I thought. The Fae One's missing from this group photo. I find it suspicious that all the veterans return to retake the hall except the Fae One, which begs the question: where are they?"

Now that we have escorted our charges here, what is our next move?  If the Paladin have one again become an oppressive force in this city, perhaps I would better counter them if I once again too up that mantle.  Those not of the yellow need to know that not all would call them fiend and that there are Gods who would welcome them.

He looks at his companions.  Mistress Karie, my sword is once again at your side.  How would you have us proceed?
