Ngoc Nguyen Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 @Rudivdk At least the 42069 doesnt have big holes on the hood. Quote

Ah well, we will always have our own opinions and expectations... I think the bodywork is quite good at this scale with the pieces used. Yes some gaps are there, but the overall appearance seems quite true to original (no, not an exact match, but quite good). Guess my acceptance level is somewhat lower compared to other members... A few years ago people were complaining about models being covered with panels and nowadays people are complaining about holes in Technic models. To be frank; you are complaining about a lot of things lately. I recommend you change your attitude a bit. You can state your negative opinion, but you don't need to do this over and over again. Jim, it is no use. Some people just LOVE to complain and furthermore, the people that LOVE to complain are also usually the most vocal. I am learning this first hand in my (fairly) new job where I am delivering a huge local improvement scheme. The complainers really come out in force. It amazes and somewhat amuses me. Quote
AVCampos Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I have the feeling that nowadays sets are always somehow criticised because they have holes and for not showing the working mechanisms inside. This really baffles me. Quote

Exactly. The only thing that people have criticised the set for was the hood and front in general, and I have seen tens of comments complaining about them being disappointed by it. Mostly everyone is being too pessimistic here; remember that Lego is just for fun and we should just relax. Not to mention that there are numerous aspects that Lego nailed, like the door curve, the rear shaping, the front grille, headlights, and many more. Quote

It is meant for display in the first place, then its look over functions. Besides, this is still lego, it's made out of a range of plastic parts that make a structure. It's been improved, and for people that want a perfectly closed model, go buy 75878. Quote

Yeah, but dude, this box will cost 380 damn euros, you cant lower your expectations at such a high and delirious price. Knowing that nothing can justifiy this price in regards of the set (probably no PFS, a few and average mecanichal functions, like the Porsche). So what it does must be perfect. I personnaly dont complain about the set, because I know from the beggining that i'm not going to buy it. Edited May 23, 2018 by Timoonn Quote

Just a guess, but could it be that those people complaining about opposite things are actually different individuals? On topic, I must say that front looks good to me but as many others, I'm very keen to seeing what kind of mechanics are inside this good looking shell. Quote

I like the colours inside the car, and overall I think this is a really nice offering to be presented with in the Lego Technic range - as was the Porsche. But trying to capture the lines of a real life car is really difficult with Technic. There are always some compromises to be made, in this case, the wing mirror mounts. I am still looking forward to see what is inside this beast.. What he said Quote

For most. Some have complained about both. And not that it makes a difference, I asked my family (we are all car geeks) what they thought of it. 3/5 didn't think it was that great. And the ones who liked it were in the age range. I think it will still sell well, just not for me. Quote
Jack Bloomer Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 The color is frustrating to me. I wish it was a normal blue in the front followed by the silver C and then black in the rear of the car. i think two tone blue is bad, especially because i dont like dark azure. However, i will say that the design is decent and i believe the functions will "save" the set for me, although i already know the set will be good. Quote

Well, we've got the L-shaped curved panel in transparent (as in 42070, for instance) so would it be much of a stretch to have other panels as well? They'd be great for showing off an engine! Quote

tompato Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I think it'll be a pretty sweet set (as long as it has no gearbox issues like the Porsche) but the price might be a bit too inhibitive for me. I kinda wish it had been done with fewer pieces considering the licensing is likely going to add a fair chunk to the cost. I have no doubt it'll be a cool model though, I look forward to the full reveal. Quote

LucyCol Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 (edited) I understand (from other forums) that 'Lego' shops are now taking pre-orders, I won't be in the queue saving my money for the 2H sets. Edited May 23, 2018 by LucyCol Grammer Quote

Problem is, what do you do? Shut em down and you've turned a forum into a dictatorship. Let them whine, and they'll fill the thread with it... Anyway, there's always huge knee-jerk reactions to new models often based on minimal evidence, however, most of it is good natured guesses and hopes which is great and i enjoy reading it. Thats all positive excitement, and although another car isn't top of my wishlist, i'm still hoping its something special under its skin - i'd love to be so blown away i actually buy it! (42082 is my winner this year, and passes the 'pure' technic smell test.. this one feels a bit Model Team-y so far, but i hope i'm totally wrong once details emerge) Either way, it blows the socks off what i had when i was 10, so lets have an Amen to that! I am quite certain coloured Lego is made from ABS which it is not possible to be done in clear. Usually clear is done as PC (polycarbonate) which is much strong than ABS. Quote

So instead of bending they likely crack. But there are semi-transparent beams and connectors out there, just pretty rare. Edited May 23, 2018 by ibessonov Quote

Bublehead Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Off topic but my experience with polycarbonate from designing aircraft lighting fixtures- Trans panels would shatter if you dropped a model. Polycarbonate is harder and more brittle and prone to shattering but only after reaching its yield strength which is high. So in beam and brick form it is marginally strong, but in thin walled panels would likely shatter or crack if struck by a high velocity, low surface area object, I.e. anything it hits as it hits the ground. TLG doesn’t need those kinds of customer complaints so they avoid making panels in polycarbonate. Now if only transparent aluminum was a real thing... Quote
