I've been playing a little with how to take advantage of the new parts. I tried making a compact sequential 4-speed gearbox layout and so far this is the most simple solution I could come up with. It's still not that easy, because to take full advantage of the new orange selector, the driving rings cannot be placed on opposite sides of the gear selector.

To take full advantage of the new 20t clutch gears, the gear ratio between the two driving rings needs to be closer to 1:1 than the 20:12 ratio made by the new clutch gears. In this case I used 16:20. Ratios are: 4:5, 1:1, 4:3, 5:3.

  • Green is input
  • Yellow is control
  • Red is output

What software do you use?

I use LDD to design, then from LDD I export to '.ldr' using the updated LDraw.xml and finally I make renders with Stud.io.

Actually Lego should have shipped this to stores after Just 1st to have avoided any chances of leaks. The real problem is controlling the human element who are not employed with Lego directly.

The problem would be that they couldn't start selling it June 1st, like they planned to. And honestly, I'd expect some more loyalty from your employees.

Yeah... I'd get it if it was some random mall toy store, but official store... inexcusable. I went to our local LEGO store and they pretty much deny it's existence, except for the fact that we can preorder it and wait.

Our local store doesn't even know retail price (in rubles, of course) and there's no preorder! I asked seller to call me directly when there's any information.

Yeah they didn't tell anything about the price either. And we're used to getting stuff earlier here, sometimes even earlier than Jim, like last year.

And now maybe :P

I hope it will be on my desk when I get back at work. So all the reviews will be online and I still need to start building.

I wish.

If I'd get it on 1st, I know I'd have amazing weekend.

I'm also thinking of rebuilding porsche back to stock version for visual and gearbox comparison.

In France, some lego store received chiron but order not to sell before June 1st.

It's likely same in most stores, but some employees didn't care or wanted to be "edgy" and leaked it out. While others are waiting until the official reveal.

That goes for all stores, like Ascius mentioned.

Like I mentioned earlier, everything was supposed to work out differently. It’s more complicated than this, unfortunately.

I'll wait for reviews. if it is flawed like the Porsche ill wait for a sale.

I hope it is in the same scale as the Porsche.... and the boxes match in looks... and size so I can neatly pile them. Yeah I know...

I see it almost as a collector item, and consistence is a plus.

True that!

We already know it’s (more or less) the same scale, right?

Judging from the leaked pictures it's 31 studs wide (I may be wrong here), so it'll fit in my shelf. Too bad I have to disassemble my Porsche because there's not much free space on it :(

Well now I know I guess.

Has anyone been thinking already on how the new hubs with brake discs could be used to make working brakes?

It looks pretty tight between disc and rim son probably just "single sided" at the inner side.

2L rubber piece connected to 2 of these should fit in that tight space I think:

Mechanism on the other side is the matter of imagination. There are many creative people here. So we need to wait few weeks or months and they'll come up with something.

Using that rubber piece is not a good idea for brakes in general. I know Sheepo did it, but not everything he did is indisputable. The rubber pieces will incline so much friction that the entire model will want to halt as soon as the calipers are engaged. This also causes the rubber pieces to get damaged easily. It would be much more realistic to use the flat side of a hard plastic piece.

I agree with you. It will also leave us much more creative freedom in shapes and sizes. I already have some abstract ideas but they require a lot of prototyping!

... And lubricate it to reduce friction and damage.

I know we like to reproduce mechanical functions in Technic, but this one is a bad idea with plastic parts.

i saw the leak posted on the lego facebook page and was quite impressed with the overall design im interested to see what new types of gears will be introduced in this set

Apparently you were not the first with other leaks .

That'll be still sooner than around here.. we have no official Lego store in Hungary so first batch is expected only on the 6th of June. Even your review might be ready when I can start mine
