Hi this is one of my F1 MOC cars. Its an 1979-1980's ish Mclaren. google search for the car type. I have a Stud.io file if any one would like to make it. As you can see my real model still has 3 more bits to change.

I have a bricklink account (same name) most of my F1 cars are there and you can dload the Stud.io file to see how to make them. If you go to gallery and search F1 in the search box they should appear. There are a lot of modern type F1 I have made there but they all look similar apart from colours. So I thought I'd try a few vintage.

Really liking these vintage models and am itching to do a series of builds... Will go chase down your Bricklink account for those Stud.io files :)

(did you mean Bricksafe or something else? not finding you on either Bricklink or Bricksafe, tbh)

I really like the shaping - simple but effective, you caught the typical design of the era very well in my opinion. Two suggestions:

  • Could the front tires be replaced by the newer Town tires which are considerably smaller (more typical of the era)? I can see there might be a problem with the width of the axle, but using 2x2 round bricks as rims might help here.
  • By using hinge bricks and 1x6 tiles you might be able to close the cockpit more - of course at the expense of taking the fig off.

Anyhow nice realization of a classic F1 racer!

Yes they do kind of work I not got any to try used the 4 plate front axle and used a 6 axle at back instead of 7.

Looks much better and more prototypical in my opinion - at least from this angle. From a front view the whole thing might seem a bit narrow now - but well, that's where things get interesting.

Yep it looks a bit narrow shame they not make a 6 plate axle. I did try wiih a 1 x 2 axle but it puts the wheels in the wrong place. We will have to wait n see what they have done in the new set 75889, what I can see I think its a 4 plate.
