i was just wondering, why doesn't lego make starwars chess?

like one set for each episode?

that would be cool.

Hasbro has the license to make Star Wars games, LEGO only has the license to produce building toys.

And since Hasbro holds the action figure rights, LEGO is prevented from releasing straight-up Minifig packs or singles. So unless something drastically changes...neither will ever happen. deino2.gif

Now that you mention it...I think that would be a great idea. For a lot of people it's all about the mini-figures. The catch is always that Hasbro has the rights to action figures so Lego cannot just sell figure sets. They must package them as sets, like the most recent stormtrooper set with the cheap drop ship that no one is all that interested in anyway just to get the mini-figures, I really like the idea of 1 chess set for each of the movies. With the job they did on the latest Castle set, I think they could really do an awesome job with the charactors available in Star Wars.

How about LEGO releases a building set, that makes an interesting scene, with lots of figs, AND JUST HAPPENS to have an alternative picture/build that is a chess set?? That might work, but I doubt they would go to that much effort.

A chess have been discussed several times.

But this idea with one chess from every film is the most brilliant idea since the wheel.

How many cool figs could we get then??

Sadly all this get ruined by the facts that Deinonychus just mentioned,

and as well that I did in another topic.

I even asked Jan Beyer if they couldn

whilst a Chess set is not just figures ... it is a board game and other manufacturers hold the licence to make Star Wars themed board games. So, as was said above ... unless that changes, Lego can't produce a SW Chess set.

I too would like TLG to make Star Wars Chess sets. If anybody has any ideas for different sets you could post them here. Jim Butcher and I have had many ideas for diff. sets, and more ideas and critiques of previous ideas are always welcome. :-) Even though it looks like TLG can't do much about making actual SWCS's at the moment it never hurts to think ahead.

If this idea gets enough momentum I'm sure we could even open an entire thread devoted to Star Wars Chess set ideas.

Star Wars Chess sets in the near future ON!!!

ahh, thats a real shame, i wish i would have known that earlier :-( . star wars chess would be awsome, and you know whats funny? Tarful and I started making ideas for SW chess a little before that castle chess set was posted on EB homepage... thats what i call coiencedence... or was it? ;-) |-/

Hmmm... here is a trick suggestion for Lego then. It would be expensive, and would be for limitedruns... but I know we ave proven to Lego we are will to pay for something if we really want it... So here goes. Lego could build the chess board to reflect a "building" from each film

1)Theed Palace *sweet* or Pod Race Arena >:-(

2) 8-| Dah... THEE Arena *wub*

3) *wub* Mustafar or 8-

umm... pallin jax, im not sure what you mean... do you mean the location of the batlle (or chess match) takes place? like mustafaar would have red and black square tiles on the chess board?

to be honest, I wouldn't be pleased at all... I spend a lot of sweat and tears to get some rare minifigs and it was always wonderful to buy a new set and fall in love with new minifigs I didn't have. Or if it is for a rare one I bought of ebay or bricklink, it is massiv to receive a little padded envelope from the other side of the earth to get a missing fig for my collection.

Buying one set and having 32 figures at once? Doesn't make it too special for me.

Just my opinion. But I am more the "looking forward for a set and then getting it person", not the "buying all new sets from my favorite line on the first day person". Just a happiness thing, not a money thing.

So for me: SW chess off!

:-)

Sorry, thought I clarified it enough. The chess boards themselves would be buildings, with the roofs serving as the boards. The question becomes how to decorate the base of the board to look like the locations. I guess another approach could be to make this into a box, with the board inside, Like an arena... With Cardboard inserts or even bricks with prints that when assemble make a picture. That approach would only need to be one side or a one picture backboard scene. To add more fun to it, Lego could make the bricks loosely interchange picture points, so you could literally assemble other scenes. As a collector, I would ex specially like this approach.

While at times I agree with your post, in my opinion, these sets would be ultra expensive and thus limited, hence the need of having all the unique characters. This would be good for your approach however, because Lego, ingenious capitalist as they are, would just love spreading out love with these newly developed characters into other sets. You could have your cake, we could have ours, and everyone could eat all they could afford to do. A win/win for all... And even still, bricklink would still afford yet others the chance to get theirs. Now if we could get it past the Hasbro-ists!

Surely the only reason people want a Star Wars Chess set is to get a truck load of figures on the cheap ?! The fact that you can play chess with such a set is a by-product ... how many people actually use the current chess sets for playing chess ?!

Great idea Palin Jax! For Example for Hoth they could make it like a diorama with the Rebels in snow trenches on one side an the the Imperials trugding over the snow to get to them, and in the backround have the Giant Echo Base doors and Turrets and on the Empires side have AT-AT legs to signify them approaching and maybe some Taun-Tauns and an improved more intricate Probe Droid.

Exactly Big Pete, We/I want tons of new minifigs and I like Chess too. X-D ;-)

And to answer your other question I bought the current Castle Chess set strictl because of the fig to price ratio, and the fact that it was %20 off.
