Posted March 25, 20186 yr Fandom is quite a new word but it basically means what are you a fan of, in the contexts I've heard it used it refer to fictional series so really the question is which fictional series are you a fan of. To get us started I would say that I am a fan of the following: Doctor who, Star wars, Tolkien, Pokemon, Horrible histories (not technically a fictional series but oh well), Steven Universe, Dc Comics (including the cw shows and the dcau but not the dceu), the marvel cinematic universe, Harry Potter, The Elder Scrolls, the X-men, Avatar: the last airbender (and probably legend of Korra soon but I haven't gotten around to watching it yet), Infinity train, Lego ninjago, Stranger Things, i Zombie, The Incredibles, The portal series and I am sure there are some I'm forgetting. And kinda a fan of these but not as dedicatedly as the above: Adventure time, Star trek, BBC's Sherlock, Bravest warriors,Studio Ghibli, most Disney animated movies (with a few exceptions), over the garden wall, Mario (especially super Mario galaxy ) and again I am sure there are some I'm forgetting. So what about you, What fandoms are you in?
March 25, 20186 yr Interesting idea for the topic, I think that im my case it'll be:Tolkien, Star Wars especially clone wars and legends... that just got killed by Disney , Sherlock Holmes (both BBC's and RDJ's version), Soulsborne series, Witcher, Game of Thrones (still awaiting the next part of the book ) and Harry Potter. A lot of my friends are big fans of anime and manga, but the only one that I'm really into is Death Note. I think that my favourite animation ever was either Mulan or Zootopia. How to train Your Dragon was good, but not as good as the first two. Then I kinda like Marvel, X-men and Elder Scrolls, but I have never really dived into it. I am curious to see what others will say.
March 25, 20186 yr As of now, first and foremost, Retrofuturism! There's a lot to take away from with each subset, but the genres that interest me the most are those based upon the futurism of the early twentieth century, Dieselpunk, Decopunk, and Raypunk particularly. Besides that, I also take light interests into DC Comics, Kaiju Cinema, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Tron Legacy, Lego's Classic Space themes... There are others that at one time or another I once took an interest in, I just can't remember them all immediately.
March 25, 20186 yr Lots of 'em. To name a few, DC Comics, Aliens, Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, Dead Space, Breaking Bad, the Lego adaptation games, The Last of Us, Mortal Kombat, the Arkhamverse, Injustice, the DCEU, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Gravity Falls, "classic" Spongebob (the first three seasons), Fallout, Preacher (the comic, I've not watched the show yet), the Arrowverse (yes, all of it), and so on. Now, to name specific DC comics themselves (because it's kind of my thing), there's Batman and all he entails, Justice Society of America (Geoff John's run especially), Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol, Secret Six, Suicide Squad, Deathstroke, Red Hood and the Outlaws (post-Rebirth, I wasn't too fond of it before), Wonder Woman, Superman, Aquaman, Black Lightning, Manhunter ('70s Paul Kirk and Kate Spencer), Swamp Thing, Seven Soldiers of Victory, and Legion of Superheroes, to name far more than just a few.
March 25, 20186 yr For me I'd say DC comics (mostly Bat family related), Mignolaverse, Star Wars, 2000AD, Harry Potter. Belonging to that 'fandom' means I've read, and have interest, in material rom each of those subjects. In that I'm interested in 1/6 scale toys related to some of them (Only SW really although there are a couple of decent HP related 1/6 scale figures). Does 1/6 scale figures count as something you can be part of a 'fandom' of? I suppose we're all in the fandom of construction based toys too.
March 25, 20186 yr Not many myself, but here's what I'd consider myself to be "in": LEGO Technic (obviously), Marvel Cinematic Universe (I love all of their movies), Star Wars, and Harry potter (though I'm not sure if I want to watch the movies). Cool question, it's interesting to see what others are interested in.
March 25, 20186 yr I'm a huge fan of the discworld by Terry Pratchett, Tolkien's world (don't forget Mr Bliss) and Stanislaw Lem's books. Lately I got into The Orville by MacFarlane.
March 25, 20186 yr For me I’d say Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, James Bond. I like DC (in particular the Nolanverse). From a merchandising perspective, obviously Lego . I’m not sure whether Battlefront would come under a general video games fandom or fall under the Star Wars banner, but I like that series too.
March 28, 20186 yr There’s so many...the ones at the top are Marvel/DC, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Tolkien...those usuals. Then there’s a few outliers, one big one being Red Rising, which I was somewhat saddened to see it’s not going to be a movie series & instead be a TV series. Maze Runner, The 5th Wave. Anime, I’m a huge Dragonball Z fan. Bleach, Trigun, & Sword Art Online are all favorites.
March 28, 20186 yr Warcraft (heavy emphasis on Trolls). Tolkein's works. Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain. Legend of Zelda. History/Romance of the Three Kingdoms (both the historical and fictional). Game of Thrones / ASOIAF. Dirilis Ertugrul. Elder Scrolls. Vikings. Warhammer. Pretty much any good quality fantasy/medieval fiction or non-fiction that I can lose myself in easily. Whether it is Lego, video/board games, movies, tv, books.
