Most of the technic sets use 1 motor and gearbox. One can use 2 battery boxes in very expensive sets like flagships. I assume linking could be done through the programming. Compatibility will be a key element of their survival and success - I hope they'll find a way to use the future Powered Up physical controllers with their systems.
May 31, 20186 yr Promobricks.de posted some images of the new components from the 2018 train sets. The battery box/controller has 2 ports only and the train motor seems to be similar to the previous one except for the connector.
