A few more posts about tractor tyres and Jim will show up and split them into a new thread about tractor tyres so you guys can discuss to your heart's content.

Sorry about the slight off topic talk but this is what growing up on a farm with tractors left and right does to you. :)

I think I'm done now though, for this time anyway.

I would like to officially throw my support behind @I_Igor's campaign for smaller CLAAS tyres. I'd like to see a size fitting the pullback rims. :sweet:

Anyway, the inaccuracies on the ZEUX don't bother me. It still looks great.

Yes, 42081 is great; IMHO best set this year

They say it can be made, yes, but it doesn't exist yet. Who knows that the final specifications would be.

You seem to be very focused on correct scales on models. How many real life combine harvesters have larger front tires than those on the Claas Xerion?

I see another problem with smaller tractor tires and that is what wheel to put them on. The only ones I can think of that has somewhat the right dimensions are the wheels used on the 8880 Super Car and I'm not sure if they are properly constructed to be up to the task. So, in my world they would have to introduce a new wheel as well for these tires to happen. Sure, you could put slightly smaller tires on the Claas wheels but if used together with the 107 diameter tires on the same model, it would look a bit weird.

Sorry for the rather lengthy post, but I felt I wanted to elaborate on the topic a little. :)

With 95 tires JCB 8000 can be done (as example)...BTW @Jim knows about it and said a while ago that smaller models can be done with same existing tires...sorry for offtopic ladies and gets...

There's a photograph that has a number of Technic designers and Volvo designers and a bunch of prototype models I believe.

And I like this part:

Quote

It took some time to settle on the moving camera, according to Woodman. He told me the team began designing a camera for the vehicle before realising that the concept Zeux would have enough sensors to move around autonomously and wouldn't need a camera.

"And then we kind of realised that, no, the machine doesn't need it, but maybe we need it. So by having this camera, which can sort of just turn to look at you, it gives you that confidence to know that the machine has seen you."

It's a little like the way we instinctively make eye contact with a car's driver before crossing a road. The mighty Zeux may not have anyone visibly operating it, but it's still capable of reassuring bystanders that it's not about to crash into them. Assuming those hypothetical bystanders aren't troubled by a big moving eye on a stick.

I can pick out Lars KJ, Jeppe, Markus, Michael and Milan in the photo at least.

There are also Aurelien and Samuel Tacchi

Just rechecked the photo and was about to add Aurelien to my previous post. I'm not really familiar with Sam Tacchi so I couldn't identify him. I need to rewatch the pullback video.  No sign of Uwe, Alfred or Lars T (actually not sure about him. He could be in there). :look:

The prototypes look great as well. Oh, how close we came to a yellow bucket!  Also, did nearly all of the Technic team work on 42081, or are they there to simply represent the company? I've heard direct from TLG that 8283 was a large group project, so it's possible that this was the case with the ZEUX.

Can we get a link to that photo of the prototypes?

Edit: Never mind it was in the video! That one on the far right looks really interesting. It looks to be a cabless take on the Volvo Sfinx or something similar

A bit different thing about ZEUX; it is 6100mm long, wide 2500 and with 3000mm whellbase... accourding my calculations LEGO model is in 1:13.5 scale - it is 22cm wide...but when I look Volvo concept vehicle from side - it has 1600mm tire (Agricultural group 43), so LEGO tire should be aproximatelly 119mm in diameter...but comparison of lengths (both LEGO and official concept vehicle) scale is diffetent 6100 to 510mm

Its like 20,5 cm wide not 22, so it is in a close enough scale when it comes to the tire size  i mean we arent talking about rocket science here

EDIT: 8 inches is 20.3 cm not 22, and 12 inches is like 30.5 cm not 32...

I agree it is not rocket science but in post

width was 22cm, so it mixed up my calculations. Anyway it is very nice that LEGO developes its models for future; there are number of interesting comcepts, just google for IVT industrial challenge...

Not sure how you arrive at the scale figure 1:13,5. When comparing width and length I arrive at the numbers ~1:12 for length (6100/510) and ~1:11,4 for width (2500/220). I do not know the wheelbase for the lego model.

Not sure from where you get 20cm in width. Assuming the picture posted above is the official lego measurements, the width is 22cm.

Wheelbase for LEGO model looks like 30 studs...

@zoo you were actually right , what I meant scale from 1:11,5 to 1:12,5... it is about time that I buy myself bigger phone...

Tomorrow I'll measure tires on real ZEUX to get aproximate values...

Yup, we're here again. We have an awesome model, with some great parts and features and the overall design giving us a glimpse into the future of engineering as we know it... and all we can talk about is the wheelbase.

In studs.

Studs.

Man, I love this forum. :sweet:

Oh, I fully agree with you that it's an awesome model with a very interesting design. Best LEGO Technic model for this year I dare say. Though I will probably also be buying the 42082.

You'd better have a damn big shelf, then.

When I first saw this I didn't rate it at all but the more I see of it the more I like it but I'll damned if I know why.
