Without doing any research what does everyone know of the Tasmanian Tiger? If anything at all...

Note

Any information which is accurate has been made a similiar colour to the background. This way those who haven't yet contributed can't accidentally read and be educated. To see the hidden text just highlight the entire post AFTER you've posted what you know.

don't tell me you don't know anything about that?

i know the last one died before WWII i believe in captitivity in a Zoo somewhere in New Zealand or so...

the poor animal was not given the proper treatment...

not sure where this is coming from, pirate, surely you can find lots of this on the internet...

Where I'm from we grow up being educated about this creature. I'm writing a story related to it and I'm interested in finding out what the rest of the world knows about it (or whether they've heard of it at all). The reason being I am very familiar with this topic, but I can't assume people from elsewhere have the same familiarity.

The fact that you stated it died in a zoo indicates you know something, but thats not quite accurate. It wasn't a zoo in New Zealand!

But that's good. It informs me of the information I need to convey through the story so the average reader has the necessary knowledge to understand the story.

well... wasn't it on an island over there?

SPOILERS!!! Hightlight to read, but only AFTER you've post what you know:

-->where was it? it did die because of bad treatment, right? and when did it die?<--

i bought a t-shirt with the creature on it in Sidney's Museum for Natural history, or something.... but i never wore it, it was too small... i keep it as a memory...

i probably saw a dead example there. in any case, the info i have, comes from my trip to australia... I don't think many people in Belgium have any clue what you're talking about... they'll say it's just another tiger. SPOILERS!!! --> it doesn't look like a tiger at all, tho. <--

Yep! It was on an island. More will be revealed after more people submit their knowledge - assuming they're going to. I don't want to prematurely educate or give hints at the moment.

I want everybody's RAAAAAAW uninfluenced knowledge first!!!

What I know:

SPOILERS!!! Hightlight to read, but only AFTER you've post what you know:

* It truly was a creature and didn't look like a tiger at all. The latin name sounds like some dinosaur, as far as I can remember. The last one died in the Hobart Zoo in the 1940s... or was it the 1930s?... dunno, I remembered Hobart only because of the sailing race there. So, actually you could say it was on a big island ;)

* I read somewhere that they tried to clone it (like in Jurassic Park)?

* Aren't the Tasmanian Tigers some Rugby-or-Cricket-or-some-other-weird-sports Team?

I came across it once cos I looking for stuff on tigers (my favorite animal - who'd have guessed?). But this creature only had the name in common and so I dropped my reading on it...

I have a whole short essay typed up, but could someone please refresh my memory on how to make it invisible? I'll edit this soon.

I've been making the text in the other posts invisible with my cool new powers!

But if you want to do it yourself:

Use the colour tag (but remove the spaces I've added) in front of the text you want to hide.

[ color=#EEF2F7 ]

Then, use:

[ /color ]

to turn it off. Once again there aren't suppose to be any spaces, but if I didn't add the spaces it would function normally, and you wouldn't be able to see the instructions!

I'm only a moderator! So far all I've done is split threads that are going off topic and put the posts in a new thread so the discussion can be continued there. I don't believe in closing threads because they go off topic - not when the posts can be moved to another thread and be discussed in a more relevant location.

Like this thread for example, its currently gone off topic... If it continues I'll move the off topic posts to a new thread and we can continue the discussion there.

Well I do believe Phes will make a good mod (he is not an admin). Like all the new powers, he will need some time to masterise his new abilities. Phes keep in mind that off topic is also something people like here. Things need to be always a little bit messy at eurobricks

Yes, I do keep that in mind. Hence the reason I don't want close threads or delete off topic posts. Rather I find them a new home so the discussion can expand further without interferring with the main topic.

I created the When will Mr Phes start creating MOCs? thread whihc sprang from an off topic discussion starting in the Why is LEGO so stingy with their mini-figures? thread. I moved the posts the new thread and now its got 23 responses! Not so much to keep things tidy, but so the discussion could be taken much further than it could in the original thread.

Its like gardening. Sometimes new shoots should be transplanted elsewhere to get the best growth out of them! Isn't that a good thing to do?

I think the appointment was a subtle ploy to keep Phes ON-topic ;)

Anyways (getting back on-topic myself...erhmm...):

The Tasmanian Tiger (without looking anything up.. I all ready have pride of place as the spotter from the screen play)

SPOILERS-->:-D died out in the 1920s? in a zoo in Oz (can't remember where)... One of Oz's unis (Melbourne?) is trying to recreate it from a preserved dead infant currently... The animal itself is more of a dog with a stripe... <-- it looks (to my uneducated eye) like a Hyenia...

God Bless,

The 'un-expert on this topic' Nathan

Alright...here goes. The thylacine, or Tasmanian tiger, looks more like a small dog or hyena. The last one died in the Hobbart Zoo in the 1930s. Since then, there have been 562 sightings of thylacines in Tasmania, and 114 in Australia. None of these sightings are confirmed. Probably the most reliable sighting came from an off duty park ranger in 1995. Now, there is a lab in England trying to find a way to clone the Tiger. Many experts believe it is still out there somewhere, hiding from civilization. Im a geek, thats all from memory, and that took about a minute to write. I might write more later if i feel like it.
