March 18, 200816 yr I just wanna see how popular and well known Australia's bands are. what what (Ozy) bands do you know, like and hate...? :'-( Man, the only Aussie bands that come to mind came and went during the 80's, although I do know the Presets. Whatever happened to Midnight Oil?

What happened to Midnight Oil? well frontman Peter Garrett is now the Federal Minister for the Environment in the Australian Government. He's been a member of parliament for about 4 years I think. PS Yes he still has a shaved head, and it still looks weird to see him in suits. Edited March 18, 200816 yr by hewman
March 18, 200816 yr INXS & Savage Garden, not a fan of either though. Big fan of AC DC and Jimmy Barnes though
March 23, 200816 yr Come on guys there's heaps more! you can do it *sweet* I guess when it comes down to things, American and British bands are the ones that stand out for most of the english-speaking world with a few exceptions. I mean, sure there's INXS and AC/DC, or even smaller mainstream acts like Silverchair, but for the most part non-Australians like myself aren't going to have a great deal of awareness when it comes to the Australian music scene. I mean if you want to flip this thing on its head, how many Canadian bands have you heard of? Just like the Australian music scene, not many non-Canadians will recognize the majority of Canadian acts. I could probably name countless Canadian acts that you've never heard of that would be very recognizeable to most Canucks. When it comes to english-singing bands, if you're not well-known in the US or Britian, chances are that the majority of the world has no idea who you are.
March 23, 200816 yr I saw Savage Garden in concert some years ago at the London arena. They were excellent. Regrettably, Darren Hayes just any good with Daniel Jones

I like canadian music, espicially Sum 41 *wub* probably the 2nd best/favourite band of all time!
March 30, 200816 yr What about Good Charlotte? oooo wait they're american.............ummm isant potbelleez Aussie?

He's been a member of parliament for about 4 years I think.PS Yes he still has a shaved head, and it still looks weird to see him in suits. Wow, cool, I have all the vinyl or cd's with them, except the last one they made. I like their early stuff best. The first thing that came to my mind with your question was AC/DC, though. Not been a big fan of them. INSX' album Kick is great (the only one I got with them). That has become a true classic. Maybe I should spin that vinyl tonight. Hey, what about Kylie Minouge (not sure about spelling, or if she can be considered a band ;-) ) ? Front Edited March 30, 200816 yr by Front
March 31, 200816 yr hm.... most of them seem to be known as Brittish, not as Australian bands... well there's Crowded House. they were really big in the 90's with "Foodface" amongst others there's the guy singing "You're the voice" somewhere late 80's... what's his name again... ah... even older... 70's... Sherbett... think it's written like that... the only song i know that made it all the way to Belgium was "howzat", but they were pretty big down under... then there's Olivia and Bee Gees... both giants in the music industry of 70's and early 80's. sure, they're associated with the UK, but they originated in Australia... Same goes for Kylie (and her sister i guess) and Jason Donovan, Kylie's sweethaert back then... and what about Midnight Oil? think they're Australian too... "Beds are burning" I still remember... ah... Men at work... the copycats of the Police... yeah... they kinda surfed on the Police formula for a while... had massive sales of that one album called "Business as usual". 15 weeks at number one in the US i think... g.... am i happy the Police made an even bigger album than that... and Icehouse! "Hey little girl"... now that was a great song! the only one that actualy reached the charts, but great all the same... INXS i know pretty well too... they had a string of hits here in Europe, "Need you tonight" being their biggest, not their best, imo... Especially the b-side of the single was kinda hilarious... if i recall, it only had this one high note for a minute and that's it... but oh well, people bought the single for the a-side anyway...
