Dang, I kinda wish this were a Creator Expert set instead... *oh2*

I had to look twice to see if it were Technic or bricks  I suppose it's both.

Using more System parts in Technic does certainly help the shape and details.

Model does look good.

Ironically, a few users over on the set's main topic were actually complaining that it looked too much like a Creator Expert set rather than a Technic one. Honestly, I don't see how that's supposed to be a bad thing...  :shrug_oh_well:

Oh, and a few others said the Olive Green looked like VOMIT in their eyes...

Maybe it's a new general direction LEGO is trying, the 2018 Mack Anthem had a similar direction with bricks/Technic.

A lot of old-school Technic fans prefer for the sets to have open spaces to show off their mechanical workings, since realistic mechanical functions have generally been one of the core selling points of the Technic theme and a lot of people think hiding them behind full body panels diminishes the impact of those.

I don't think it's all that new — after all, 42069 from 2017, 42053 from 2016; 42035, 42041, and 42043 from 2015; 42030 from 2014; 42007 from 2013; 9395 and 9397 from 2012; and 8109 and 8110 from 2011 all used System rather generously, despite panels having become the norm for most structural and decorative areas of Technic sets well before then.

System-based design solutions seem to be particularly common in licensed Technic models, since Technic parts and techniques which may be perfectly suited to the depiction of the same general subject (e.g. excavator, super car, etc) might not feel as authentic to that specific subject.

Say, now that TLG has partnered with Jaguar for a set next year within the Speed Champions theme, could we perhaps see a classic E-Type as next year's set, maybe in a "after-the-fact" fulfilment of the rejected LEGO Ideas project? :shrug_oh_well:

I hope not. I'd rather have a car with more curves and a more interesting / difficult to replicate front, like a 1950s Plymouth or a Chevrolet Bel Air.

TLG has surprised me for the better (Beetle ) and the worse (Aston Martin ), though. The Mustang looks great, but I still have a soft spot for older, curvy cars.

As far as curves go, something from the '30s would be sweet to see, like a 1936 Cadillac V16 Fleetwood Aero Coupe or an Auburn 851SC Boattail Speedster...
