Posted June 7, 20186 yr With multiple sugar plantations (#1 and #2) now firmly established around the settlement of Port Raleigh, the Colonial administration has been investing in better ways of processing the raw cane. After the cane has been slashed and shredded, it needs to be crushed and the juice extracted. While this can be done at the plantation, it is this part of the process that is wished to be made more efficient. Thus the establishment of a wind powered sugar mill. Heavily based on Eslandolan designs, the mill is located on the crest of a small coastal hill just outside the settlement and is surrounded by cane fields. Although the wind blows relatively consistently from the same direction, the mill can be rotated to make optimal use of its power. The resulting mash is now ready for transportation for further refinement elsewhere. -------- Ever since seeing Capt Wolf's mills, I really wanted to replicate his design and this is my attempt (finally!) - his influence on this build should be fairly clear in the shape of the tower. Anyway part of a drive to build in different settlements this month, this is my first build on Annetta and will be licensed as a medium factory.
June 7, 20186 yr Please stop being amazing and building such wonderful stuff all the time. You make all the rest of us look bad. :-) No honestly, another superb MOC from you, I love it. Nothing else to say.
June 7, 20186 yr Another stunning build Ayrlego! My only worry is how they get that bucket of mash through that small door without spilling it Edited June 7, 20186 yr by Spud The Viking
June 7, 20186 yr Hmm, that looks very familiar. Great job with the mill and surrounding sugarcane field. Another excellent build from you. The interior is a fantastic touch. And I'm glad to see windmills catching on a bit in BoBS! I must admit that when I saw the title of this post, I feared you had built a different style of sugar mill. I've had an idea for one on the drawing board, so to speak, for months and just haven't gotten around to it, and I was afraid you had used that approach and already built something better than I would. Whew! I think.
June 7, 20186 yr Fantastic windmill! Love the plants surrounding it too, and the angled siding. Great take on Capt Wolf's designs!
June 8, 20186 yr This is a really great build Ayrlego! Nice amounts of details everywhere and just really nice to look at!
June 9, 20186 yr This looks really good! The windmill is very well built, I like how you've built the sugar canes, and the rounded stone base.
June 9, 20186 yr Very nice sugar mill. The style looks good, and works well in a field of sugarcane. I also like the little cart in the first picture.
June 14, 20186 yr Author Thanks all for the comments! It's nice to be back with real bricks! I only noticed the width of the door after you pointed it out... that's going to be a problem! Whew! I think. Thanks Capt Wolf, your windmills were the absolute driving motivation behind this one... so windmills catching on is all down to you! As for different sugar mills... I'm afraid I have two on the way - a smaller ox driven one as part of a collab this month and... well a slightly larger one (WIP shot below). It all started with the waterwheel and is just kind of growing from there.... On 6/10/2018 at 12:05 AM, Captain Genaro said: Very nice sugar mill. (I've used it before - it's one of those props I keep around as it comes in handy a lot!)

I was toying with an ox driven one, but I have far too much else I want to build (and too little building time) to tackle it anytime soon. I look forward to seeing what you do with both. The WIP of the waterwheel-driven mill already looks impressive!
June 15, 20186 yr Just noted I had not commented on this - D'Oh! Another great build from you! Clear lines, lots of different structures, some interesting details - well done. I wonder how stable the windwheel is? That giant watermill already looks impressive! Really curious how that one will turn out.
