Zerobricks Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 (edited) Hi After some fiddling I came up with this idea for a single crank W16 engine: Each crank uses a #3 connector to comepnsate for the piston offsets: And Finally the top view of the engine: Hopefully someone can build this baby in real life and provide feedback LDD file: https://bricksafe.com/files/Zblj/w16-engine/W16 engine.lxf Edited June 8, 2018 by Zerobricks Quote
LvdH Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Looks great! I'll give it a shot later. I don't have enough pistons left though, so probably only doing one side. Quote
TechnicRCRacer Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Interesting solution! I will try to build it, but I don’t know if I have enough smooth toggle joints (my bin is full of toothed ones) Quote
LvdH Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 I didn't have enough cylinders or toggle joints for a full W16, but it should work perfectly as W16! Here's my W8 engine. Only had to make one little change to the crank because I removed half the engine. Video quality could have been better... Sorry. Quote
MegaRoi Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Nice engine, and it works smooth. Bringing16 pistons in position is a nightmare. The only problem I can see: how to drive the crank? There is no space for a normal full thick gear ... Quote
Didumos69 Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Nice attempt, but the cylinders are too far from the crankshaft imo. Also connecting everything to two.small engine blocks feels a bit off. I'm not sold. If this is an attempt to improve the Bugatti, I think it belongs in the mods and Improvements thread. Quote
deehtha Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 I built this engine. It does run smooth. I connected an M motor with a band and a pulley. The engine itself could use some reinforcement. I had a hard time keeping it square. The crankshaft seems 1/4 m too short. Quote
