Hello, I'm considering selling a few of my LotR/Hobbit sets on eBay (or perhaps bricklink) one day. I am wondering if it's expected to include all extra pieces when repacking sets or just the 99.9% of pieces required to build the feature set. Are the extras included in the part quantity sheet in the back of the manual? Thanks.

The "extra" parts are not included in the inventory included with the set, and in my experience folks aren't expecting the spare pieces unless the set is N/MISB.  Now, it can be a selling point if you indicate that the spare pieces are also included, but shouldn't be something you need to worry about as long as the set itself is complete.

Also the standard for used sets on bricklink is that extra parts need not be included. So I wouldn't worry if they have not been kept with the used set.

Funny you should ask, for most of my larger sets, I catalogue and store extra pieces separately, also for smaller sets I plan on keeping together as complete. Probably 70% though just get binned. Not sure why I do that though, just something I've always done.

I normally just dump them in a small bowl and sort them later when the bowl fills up, which I literally just finished sorting a bowl full. Good source of 1x1 plates and tiles if nothing else. I really don't need any more stud shooter mechanisms though.

Would be interesting to hear how others deal with those extra bits as well. I wouldn't think they would necessarily be included with a used set for sale though, since they are not included within the parts inventory.

For Technic sets, be sure the pieces needed to build the B model are included.  Some times, there are "extra" pieces not used in the A model.

And as such would be included in the part list at the back of the instruction book. Valid point for sure, even though I have rarely built a B model, many others do.

Thanks for the clear answers. So I can use the parts inventory to reliably include everything then. I was slightly worried because, while I have been keeping my newer (post dark age) sets' extras in ziplocks separate from my main bin, I have not been organizing by individual set.
