In all my years of buying lego I've only received one faulty brick, a melted 6x2 brown brick in the original Star Wars Ep.1 MTT. I took the set back to the toy store and they replaced it for me. I didn't even know about the lego piece replacement service until recently. I've bought a hell of a lot of lego in the 14 years since my first set; i must have been pretty lucky to only get one defective piece. I have noticed some colour discrepancies recently though, especially in orders from pick a brick and Lego Factory.

I have had broken or bad parts in the past, but not often. The big ones that come to mind are the micromotors, the 5581 Magic Flash sticker sheet and the original trans-clear damped shock absorbers (all of these things are notorious for being or going bad). That crane string was the only recent one. I still haven't gotten around to ordering a replacement for it.

Of course, if you consider the "new" colors to be defects, then every set is loaded with defective parts now.

(didn't even bother to check them against my old LEGO bricks, as it would be TOO SAD).

Yeah, I feel the same way about the bricks in several colors these days. :cry_sad:

I cut my thumb on a Bionicle Technic ball socket bar like that. I was pushing a ball in, then at the last second the things SNAPS, and my thumb slid forward onto the sharp protrusion. FUN!

Really, Lego's quality is making me fear for them.

The quality in the past 3 years has been steadily getting worse, but ALL the Bionicle sets I bought in 2008 had MANY parts that broke.

See, not only did the quality of the plastic degrade, but they REDESIGNED the ball sockets into a BAD configuration!

Reasons being:

1. They're thinner now.

2. The redesigned version doesn't let you put a 1x1 circular plate into the socket hole to make the connection's color look "solid"... which blows mightily for us mocers.

Needless to say:

Aaaaaand I even have more to do... but will wait awhile in fear of hitting whatever that magical "cut off" number I heard about is.

Lego's said they're aware of the problem and that every year from this one forward will be better and better... but MAN it still blows that they remolded the functionality out of all the ball sockets.

It's like they KNEW they were made of crappier plastic and tried to make them as single-use as possible.

:laugh::laugh:

That picture is hilarious!

Humm... I thought that was a pretty common occurance, a few years ago I purchased 100x 7779 Catwoman Pursuit sets & had 12 of them with this same problem. TLG will replace the part free if you call (& of course don't have another replacement request in the previous month)

100?!? *huh*

How much did they cost together?

Why 100 of the same set?

Do you have a spare one to trade me?

One of my jungle cutter's bag was ripped at the seam and I assumed missing pieces. I had one small wheel missing and a severly mangled DSS. My Spongebob set was missing alot of pieces and had an extra blue tap, basketball hoop, and some others.

I've never had missing pieces or damaged bricks in the sets I bought. Every thing hits a first time ofcourse, yesterday when I was building up my newly purchased Pirates Shipwreck Hideout I concluded that 1 2x2 darkgreen brick was missing (luckely I still had a few) but instead they gave me a darkgreen 1x2 slope.

O well I can live with it, my first error in a Lego set ever.

Your 2002 sounds better than mine was.

Wow, it looks like you've justt had bad luck surrounding you're Lego hobby.

I recently got the IJ Shanghai Chase, and I was utterly disgusted to see that most of the bley pieces were all different colors. One was a light-ish hue, with a marble pattern, while another had a gross, soft, glow-in-the-dark gray color, that looked exactly like a Megablock. The set as almost completely ruined for me.
