Can you use hard springs to help lift the boom so that it can start from a horizontal position?

hello folks.... i realy dont like the new  crane hook....has someone bild a better looking hook?

yes this is the right one.....but stil need to add some parts to make it bigger and more realistic

 

Found this. Still have to figure out how to thread it.

 

The metal hook isn't that small. It's mostly thinner than the brick-built one  in the model (only 1 stud thick). If you include the pulley wheel the metal hook is actually slightly taller.

Looking at photo reference on GIS and in the other topic mostly turns up hooks more similar to the metal hook than to the thick, wide brick-built one in the model. And double hooks actually seem to be rare on this type of crane - most have simple hooks, like this:

i was thinking like that kind of hook... has enyone has parts list or instructions ?

 

The metal hook does the trick, I fitted one to 42009, still got 2 left. One for the truck crane and one for this mobile crane 

Does anyone has the left bevel gear too? interrestingly it has dimple at the crosshole, but not large enough for a axle stop

Basically the way that the LA work in the original set is that they both angle upwards as the boom lifts. Since they’re set up opposite ways in the set, one LA screw will slightly extend as the boom rises whereas the other LA screw will slightly contract. This causes most of the load to be placed on a single LA rather than both. What @efferman has done is make both of the screws rotate in the same way, so that when the boom rises, both LA will change length the same amount, and the load of the boom will be evenly distributed across both of them. I’m amazed that the set designer didn’t see this.

Thats actually pretty damn geniuse! I just did a reaving mod, but i cant upload pics whats the trick to not have a too large of file

Looks interesting, but your rollers are all on the same axle so they’re gonna rotate at the same speed, unless you’ve drilled out the axles into pinholes.

They were drilled on a drill press. The boom head stock is too large to my liking but I will be updating it soon with different parts and configuration

I applied your modification and the boom goes up without any problem. Btw, no gears left as spares in my set.

There are no left gears in the set. Only a left and a right gear on the Picture.

Ok, I misread your comment. As far as I can see now my set came with the traditional gears only.

I have tried to decipher it. It concerns more or less the steps 667 and 820.

I have used a dark grey “axle and pin connector perpendicular” brick. It was the first I found. The other pieces are spares included in 42082.

The multiple lever modification I like the most. Annoying to switch between boom rise, extend, winch every time.
