According to Peeron my Star Wars, Knights and City sets are at 1664,25$. This is not taking into account the actual worth of sets like Cloud City, the original MF and minifigs...

I think I own about 3k loose parts from pirate ships and ordinary bricks :classic:

Collecting LEGO ON!!

How much is your collection worth? A very interesting question if like me you decide to put it onto the house contents insurance. When I went through my list of sets about 18 months ago and estimated how much it would cost to replace them I was shocked to discover that the estimate came to E25,000. While some sets are obviously expensive to replace, think of any large (especially discontinued) Star Wars set and UCS sets the costs add up if you incorporate shipping and on the very expensive items customs duty. Obviously the same collection in the US is worth less than the same collection in Europe because they can generally be replaced at a much lower cost from US sources than European sources. Without shipping/ customs and using Bricklink/ local shops/ LS@H as a price guide I'd say the value of my collection would be somewhere between 17 and 20k and that's without taking account of parts.

Unfortunately I suspect most people don't realise how expensive it would be to replace their sets until its too late. Just think how much it would cost to replace a Lego Star Wars collection never mind any other sets?

Wow some great Sounding collections out there. Well I havent yet checked on Peeron or Bricklink but my Brickset list is at: 141 Different Sets.

Some sets I have 2 of, most Newer City and Castle Sets I have 3 or 4 of each, There is one Castle KK set I had 9 of, and another 12 of. I think I easily have around 200 bought sets,

and another 20-30 inherited/adopted sets, and another 120-140~ inherited/adopted Minifigs and more then 3 Kilos of inherited/adopted loose bricks.

Together I estimate more then 450 Figs, more then 12 Kilos of bricks and about 250~ sets.

A rough estimate would put that around 3000-3500$. Though I need to follow it up to be more direct and less estimating.

One of the things I most look forward to in being a father and parenting is to build this collection one day with my children and leave it to them when it will probably double in size and more then double in value.

The way I see it, is that current Fire, Police and Castle Sets and Figs will be in 2030 something like the 80's Sets and Figs are today. Just need to wait a couple years to see :)

Too much money, more than all of you. I'm serious, i've been collecting legos for 11-12 years now (Im 13 ). Im really, really, REALLY spoiled. I used to go to tru like 3 times a week to buy legos. i have 3 huge cardboard boxes, a closet with 4 huge plastic containers, 3 drawers full of tiny pieces ( likes 1x1's and 1x2's, etc..) and waaaaaayyyyyyy more. I can just keep going on, and on and on and on and on.. I also have al least 3 boxes handed down from my multiple cousins.

Maybe like $9,000 - over a million spent on legos. (Seriously, im not making this up, im rich )

So yeah

Thousands of dollars spent on legos - ON!

I have no idea but if I was offered $20,000 for it I'd decline the offer. Although I'm sure this must factor in a lot of sentimental value and time spent sourcing sets and parts.

I have no idea how to put a value on these

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=257141

which is about 2/3 of my collection of classic space sets done in blacktron 1 colours. I had to source parts from all over the world and often at rather steep prices.

How much is your collection worth?

And where do you live...

Ive never seen a topic on here before...
There has been simular threads in the past. Belive me.

I only keep track of my Star Wars LEGO.

The rest of the bricks is not of that great importance.

Not like I will give it away I mean, :hmpf_bad: Just not important to me to keep track of

So how many bricks, is it worth... etc etc. no idea right now.

Wonder if I really wanna know how much money I spent down that drain...

Ive actually thought of insuring it...
I´ve done that to my Star Wars LEGO.

In Sweden it is the same as for your home-insurance. If you don´t have a master-piece like the "Scream" of Munk at home.

Maybe we shall ask our Norwegian members. Where is that painting by the way?:wink:

It was not expensive to do a upgrade of the insurace. I guess well worth it if something ever happends.

My current status goes something like this:

208 Sets owned (including 1 MOC)

$4,500 USD, based solely on MSRP of the sets. Sets that are out of production likely are worth more, but it's the best go-by I have available. This figure does not include parts bought off of BL, either.

A MOC is a set? Is it from Lego Factory then?

MOC stands for My Own Creation. So basically it it something you made with your own bricks.

I have no idea how much what I have is worth. All I know is that I'm sure I don't have as much as some of you guys!

I know what a MOC is, but I was puzzled as to why Walter Kovacs included it in his count of sets. Normally a MOC is something you make from parts of sets and/or loose bricks. If you buy King's Castle Siege and Skeleton Ship Attack, that's two sets. If you then use the parts from those two sets to make a MOC, you don't magically have three sets. You have two sets, from which you have created one MOC. A "set" (at least in my definition) is a group of parts you buy from Lego (or which ultimately came from Lego) that Lego says can be used to create something, not necessarily the thing itself. So regardless of whether you're using King's Castle Siege as itself according to the instructions or as a collection of parts to form part of all of your own Lego creation, it's still one set.

I OWN MORE THAN 100.000 LEGO BRICKS!!! :sweet::wub:

I've just counted all my spare parts and added them to my set list and the magic number is: 101507 LEGO pieces!

I still can't believe it... I remember as I started collecting, I counted my sets and got more than 10.000 pieces. and now...

</rejoice-alert>

If I could only invest that time I've used for counting for my study. :hmpf:

Based on Bricklink prices my lot's worth about $2000. Based on average eBay sales more like $1600. (I am sad and have monitored eBay prices for my sets over the last few months to try and look for trends in prices)

According to the avarage prices on Bricklink (with or without box, MISB or used), my collection is worth about 30.000$. I'm only collecting town and train sets. I've recently reached my first goal which was to get atleast one mint version of every single official town set produced between 1978 and 1993. Some are MISB, a lot are boxed. I'm now trying to get them all boxed (at a very reasonable price...) and to complete my collection of limited or promotional sets (from the same period). Altough it seems to be worth a lot, I haven't spent a third of it. I'm always looking for good deals

Next to this I'm also buying all the new city sets.

Now if you want to see some collections that are really worth something:

The Pier Vault

The most beautiful private collection I've seen so far. Lots of very rare MISB. He's probably one of those crazy Italians who are buying most of the MISB on the different eBay sites. I wouldn't be suprised if his collection reaches 300.000$ value regarding the BL prices.

Atleast, I've one set he hasn't: 1525  (poor me)

Brasletty BL Shop

Some prices are really insane, but check the amount of MISB, especially in the 12V theme.

£2800 (€3500, $5500) as an estimate. Of which Star Wars sets about £1600.

It's really hard to judge because I've bought so much from Bricklink over the years. If I was to part out the figures and pieces which aren't from sets, I think it would probably be a bit more.

I wonder how long it would take to put together all of those...

I would hazard a guess of ~$2000 or so for my current collection. A bit of older 12V trains makes it a bit hard to judge...

I guess i'd have to count...

Are we counting for rising values of old old sets?

Umm... well I have every johnny thunder and Indiana Jones set but Peril in Peru, so thats alot already...

Then some ninja ones,

Pirates,

Space Police,

I'm not good at math or estimating so I won't give a number.

I placed an order with that guy a year ago on some service packs, but it was before I knew about the whole deal with the bogus exchange rates. He was at least good enough to let me cancel the order, but something really should be done about that issue. Both the sellers as well as Bricklink are at fault.
