filip skywalker Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I don't know for sure, but with all my SW sets, at least 10 000 SEK, and for a TFOL in Sweden, that's a lot! Quote
RileyC Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 according to peeron my collection is worth $980 US. It is worth more because the price for lego down here in New Zealand is quite high so converting it to $US would make that price almost double. Quote
harrysnapperorgans Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I would say around $1500 New Zealand dollars, a very small collection I know. However Lego is only my secondary hobby, I have around $20,000 tied up in music gear. Quote
danim Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 so far according to peeron I have 76 sets with 16,754 parts work $1,840 which is about £1101.36 and that is not even half my collection Quote
Big Cam Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 My collection is worth whatever someone else is willing to pay for it, and not a penny more. In the last few yoears I've dropped about $2500 on new sets which most of those have gone up in value according to Bricklink, plus my roughly 50 sets from my childhood, so I have no idea, I'm guessing $10,000 at the most, and that might be a stretch, so lets just say under $10,000 but again, refer to my first sentence. Quote
ben506 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 According to Peeron, I have: 82 Sets (82 Unique), 262 Minifigs, 29,586 Parts, worth $2,949. That's probably about £3000 thanks to the conversion, but obviously that doesn't include the price some of them go for now. Oh, and that's only the sets I've bought myself, mainly Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and the Medieval Market Village ( ). Not bad, for a student. Explains why I'm always hungry, at least! In the loft there's all my brother's sets and the ones I got when I was younger. It's about 2 huge boxes, about 50kg each (we weighed them on bathroom scales, so no idea how accurate that is). The boxes are made up of sets mainly from the 80's and 90's, and a lot of Castle and Space sets in there. No idea how much they're worth, but probably about another £500, I'd guess. Quote
JCC1004 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Peeron says it's worth $1,192.99. It's a lot more than that after adding my parts and extra minifigs. Quote
Milan Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 My collection so far is about 3000euros plus 30ish very old sets from a childhood. Quote
davee123 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I'd guess in the $100,000 ballpark. My sets according to Peeron are worth $48,519.71 MSRP, but that's not including my wife's collection (which I'm slowly merging into mine, and is probably worth in the ballpark of $20,000-$40,000), and also doesn't include price increases or other raw parts we've acquired. Peeron knows about 472,052 of my parts, and I know I have over 600,000 parts personally. With my wife's collection and other relatively recent acquisitions that are uncounted, we're guessing that our house has about 1 million pieces all told. Of course, this means I should get my insurance re-assessed, too. I got the policy for myself before I was married and our collections were joined, and I think the valuation at the time was enough to hit JUST under the maximum amount of the policy. I think at the moment, we'd lose quite a bit money-wise if (God forbid) something happened to the house and we lost our collection. But that all depends on how you value a collection, too. I reasoned that there were 3 basic ways to evaluate a collection: - How much you could sell it for (very low) - How much you bought it for (medium) - How much it would cost to replace (very high) And of course for a LEGO collection in particular, there are a lot of ways to value it: - As bulk poundage (very low) - As complete sets (medium) - As individual pieces (very high) All told, that's quite a few variables involved with which to value a LEGO collection. By that metric, I figure you could argue that my collection is anywhere between $15,000 and $200,000. But I think $100,000 is probably the fairest assessment. DaveE Quote
wooootles Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Let me guesstimate mine... Green Grocer, Cafe Corner, City Corner, Family Home x2. Beach Housex2, PaB cup x2... that's $570 if I did my math and prices right. Maybe $200 more worth of LEGO City vehicles and Creator MINI's that I can't even bother counting. The worst part? All of these purchases are within the last 2 months since I got back into LEGO. And then, there are my old Town sets.... Ok, the grand total is probably not enough to buy a used V8 Ford Mustang like some of you guys have, but damn my amount is rather staggering to me! Quote
Dennimator Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 (edited) It´d probably be around $10-20.000. Maybe not very much, but as I´m only 16 years old, I´m pretty pleased with it. Edited December 5, 2009 by Dennimator Quote
Captain M Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I'm not so sure about how much my Lego collection is worth. A majority of the sets I have were from my Dad, from the 70's. Most of the instructions are gone. I have a lot of sets from the Bionicle Line, well, just about all of them from 01-04, 06-07. I am not sure. My guess would be $5000.00USD. Quote
Follows Closely Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 According to Peeron.....my is worth $569. Wow. I feel small, compared to all of the other bigger numbers. Its the not size that matters, its what you do with it. Quote
danim Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I have now finised catolouging my sets and it is now sitting at, according to peeron 124 Sets 20,868 Parts 261 Minifigs $2,820.45 worth and in pounds £1686.91 Quote
prateek Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I dont't really know, but probably less than $100 Quote
ILikePi Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I'm not completely sure, but somewhere in between the range of $250-$500 since I just became a LEGO fan just a few years ago. I plan on purchasing maybe $300-$400 USD of LEGO per year, so hopefully my collection will grow quickly! Quote
badboytje88 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Totals: 224 Sets (208 unique), 22,451 Parts, $2,748.2, 436 Minifigs. With all the parts I ordered off of bricklink I think I have about $3,ooo.oo total! Danm that's a lot! Quote
Carbohydrates Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Guesstimate... $900 or so? Not even close to my most expensive hobby. Relatively: - LEGO, ~$900 - Video games, ~$1,500 - Car, ~$11,000 - Guitars/amps/related, ~$20,000 Quote
Sammael Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Peeron says: 121 Sets (116 unique), 22,251 Parts, $2,076.14, 288 Minifigs. A lot less than my D&D miniatures collection (of more than 2500+ miniatures) and probably about the same as my Transformers collection (180 Transformers). Quote
Grimmy Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Wow some wild collections! I think it would be great to interview some of you on a podcast. Adding some pictures. This thread kind of scares me a bit. I'm one of those people that usually goes to extremes in anything they do. I'm the type of person that if I collect something, I gotta have them all. I play EQ2 Online and I always have to have all the rare event items before they go. I have over $10,000 in music gear but that isn't much in the professional world. I just got back into Lego and I've probably unknowingly spent about $700 in the last month if you count my latest Black Friday Official Lego store $330 order. We thank goodness Lego is worth money when they get discontinued. At least if their is any need, I could sell it off if I need to. Quote
Nick Wolfe Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Millions probably. I really don't know, a lot though. Quote
Darth Hawken Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Quite Alot of money for me I've been collecting for about eieght years now so estamating around $6,000 Quote
Cian Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 A quick flick across my bank statements online finds nearly a thousand euro to Smyths in 2009 alone. Then theres previous years, sets I bought in Hamleys, Tesco, Lego retail shops, Argos, Irish Ferries, got given... Theres probably 3 thousand euro RRP, not many if any of the sets have any special collectors value yet though. Quote
Batbrick Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Definitely worth a few thousand, though I am cutting way, way down on my spending now, only buying the parts and sets necessary to what I want to build. Batbrick Away! Quote
Ratshot Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 (edited) Mines worth more than my hide About $1000. I intend to double it in the coming year. Edited December 6, 2009 by Ratshot Quote
