TOTDForever Posted March 4, 2019 Posted March 4, 2019 (edited) I'm glad I bought Captain America off of Ebay so now I don't have to get the full $20 set. After seeing HD pics I am not crazy about the build. He'll look nice posed in the Compound Battle set. Does anyone have a guess at when these sets will be up for preorder in the states? The SHIELD style ones are significantly smaller than the in AoU, Civil war and infinity War. For that one I’d say probably 1.5x the size of the 2015 quinjet Alright, thanks. Now I have to get the 2019 one and just modify it :)

If you're buying that figure off of Ebay its better to just buy the set or buy it on bricklink. Thats where the value is best, not ebay

Plus you can haggle with the seller on Ebay which is what I did and I got it dirt cheap

Whovastron Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 The modular nature of the armour room set is quite impressive. The parts with the weapon racks etc. Can have those parts removed to just be a regular stand for a suit. Meaning you get 7 suit display areas. You can move around the hand rails to allow stacking, and the ladder lines up with the rails. And then the gantry platform can be attached in different ways. Pretty great. However you’ll need more than 2 of the set to display every MCU armour. If you count the 2 versions of the Mk 43, I count 17 Minifigure armours.

Mattallica Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 So do we all just piss and moan about how bad these sets are, or do we write to Lego and Marvel en masse and really let them know that we are not happy, seems to me only one option can really do anything.

Pretty sure Lego responds to sales figures. If the sets sell well, they won't change anything. If the sets sell poorly among adults and children alike, then they will change things. Marvel is not among the best-selling themes at Lego right now. (I wonder if it once was.) We are seeing the consequences of the theme's popularity. I own every major Marvel set from 2012-2016 except for 2. I skipped 3 from 2017 alone. I still collected every set from 2018 except UCS. 2019 sets have me scratching my head. I think the theme is gradually less and less appealing to adult collectors? Edited March 5, 2019 by linnormlord

There’s some kind ahashtag or something some people are doing on insta. Could give that a go. But honestly it’s the kids and parents that speak with their wallets.

Yochip Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 (edited) Genuine question here: What would be the specific, actionable things one would complain to lego about these sets that can actually be applied to future waves? Edited March 5, 2019 by Yochip
strangely Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 I'd say I'm disappointed, but mostly I'm amused. The box art is pretty hilarious. I love that the play features in the compound set includes Tony having a staff meeting, Nebula using a door and Tony picking up a welding torch (There's nothing to weld Tony). Then on the front of these boxes there's art of the heroes in costumes we mostly didn't get. Yes, nothings more taunting than putting pictures of what you wanted on the box, but including nothing inside the box that represents it. It amazes me how this turned out to be a Monkey's Paw scenario. We wish for accurate helmets for Cap and Ant-man, much sought after Iron Man variants and the Avengers compound. But in return every character has the same torso, we're given multiple bike builds, yet another Quinjet and the most phoned in variations of Thanos and Hulk imaginable. And this happens with the ultimate culmination of the Marvel movies. Again, I'd say I'm disappointed, but mostly I'm amused.

KevinMD Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 I have every Marvel set NIB (minus S1 mighty micros which I built and then trashed the boxes by mistake and the newest spider man wave) so I will buy these too, at 30-40% discount. Can’t say I’ll ever feel compelled to display the builds / boxes though. Disappointing wave but maybe there will be a summer set or two to right the ship. Won’t be the last time I’m sure.

Well the superheroes theme was once considered an evergreen theme, yet it wasn't among the top sellers last report. Surely the drop in sales should mean something to Lego, though it's unknown if that's the case or if the other themes simply sold much higher. I personally think the only bad things this wave are the vehicles in the compound, the bike, and grey Thanos. Though Hawkeye is the only one I think who shouldn't have worn one, the white suits are definitely a way to save money.

Aside from maybe the bike, none of those complaints are things that would have any actual relevance in future sets. None of those complaints are things Lego could actually act upon later, in other words. Edited March 5, 2019 by Yochip
Captain Nemo Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Keep the criticisms (and comments) about the sets please...not each other. Play nice everyone.
tafkatb Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 I was on the fence about the Hall of Armor back when all I knew was the name and price, but seeing the finished product with its modular design and Igor armor puts it over the top for me as a must-have. Kinda wish it included one of the really weird armors like the Hot Rod or Disco, but it still looks awesome! Can't wait to add in the other suits I've accumulated.

Just remove the juice bar and the hair holding section at the ends too. Not sure if the hair holder can be removed easily but the juice bar definitely looks like it can be, so that would be at least 8 spots per set and only one armor couldn’t be displayed. But I don’t think it’ll be hard to remove the hair holder either.
linnormlord Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 (edited) I don't remember the prices and they aren't posted on the front page summary any more. Now that we have good looks at these sets, what can we say about the prices for each? I think someone said the Cap bike is $20, which seems ok (though I don't like the bike) for 4 figures (I'll pass). $100 for the Avengers compound seems waay tooo muuuch. ETA I just noticed that the Iron Man in the Avengers compound has golden arms, and so is a different suit than the mk 50 in the Iron Man Hall of armors. Can anyone tell if the torso print is different too or just the arm color? Edited March 5, 2019 by linnormlord

An underrate comment I would say. If this does not happen in the film, I will walk out very disappointed. The figures are mostly terrible with the exception of the Iron Man suits. The over use of the quantum suit (is that the name?) ruins what could have been a lot of cool prints. Captain America Outriders Attack - Ugh! Boring minifigures and an awful build. Super skip! War Machine Buster - I have said it many times before, but I am so sick of SH mechs. I thought the Hulkbuster was great back in 2015, but we have just been exposed to too many to quick. Skip. Iron Man Hall Of Armors - I have to be honest, I like this one. Its really the only one with good figs, that mark 1 is awesome. The build is also something I like. I have collected a lot of Iron Man armors so having somewhere to put them will be great. I like how you can rearrange it as well. Props for also looking accurate. That Igor build is trash though. Avengers Ultimate Quinjet - Finally! A quinjet with an interior! Only took them 3 try's and 7 years. Colours here look good too. Avengers Compound Battle - Ok, so those vehicles are terrible. The car is very juniors like, and is only a price bump in my opinion. The helicopter also looks bad, I have always hatted that glass piece. To me the Compound itself looks good. I wish it was bigger but for what it is I like it. I love location sets so this is up my ally. Overall I'm mixed. Only the Iron Man suits are good figs to me, the rest are bland. 2 boring sets with boring builds. 3 sets with IMO good builds. I don't think this is as bad a wave as others are claiming. Not even the worst of the year, the Spiderman sets hold that title. But it is disappointing due to how anticipated the sets were. Not as good as last years definitely. I will probably buy one of the three larger sets. Hope the Far From Home sets are good. That Mysterio has already made what ever set he is in a guaranteed for me.
