I noticed that too. After I saw what blakbird accomplished with techopedia, I decided to review too. You / they don't need to love them, I just want to share what IMHO is erm- wonderful. That's my intention. To respond to the topic you've linked above: Technic always stood for functionality. And IMHO most people think that the aim of MOCing is to create a neat design. Which of course is true. MOCing with Technic firstly means to create functionality. (And when we've done with that, a neat design with "Standart-Bricks" always looks good.) This is kinda hard, but IMHO not as hard as creating a highly complicated SNOT-structure (like avro. My fav X-D ) Too true. At least now one of the mods is on your side! Great! I liked it so much that I bought two copies of this set so I could display both. better late than never. my second 8862 arrived today. I really like the mechanism that extends that "I-will-transport-that-harvest-to-your-trailer-thingy" the front part can be lifted... ...and is driven by the wheels. (a motor pack can be installed here) and together with the main model. Quote

Parax Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Geeze that review brings back the memories.. I loved this one possibly more than 8851.. it Drove so well! But was it just me who mounts the large wheels the other way around on the tractor? (ie the way that they are mounted on BerndDasBrot's combine) as for those lil nuts they have indents so they fit between the studs on a technic plate! so maybe you could make an actuator. (but dont use a technic plate as a spanner/wrench as the axle wont take it! ) Parax. Quote
CP5670 Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I actually like the wheels better the default way, with the recessed side visible. I adjusted the wheels on 8865 to look like that. I've seen the nuts used like that to make linear actuators, but as you said the axles are too fragile to allow for much power. On a side note, anyone who has this set on display may want to see the note about the old pneumatic tubing here. I'm pretty sure that all copies of this set use the old tubing. Quote
phool Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Apologies for the thread grave-digging, but I received a copy of this set over the weekend (together with a 8858 Rebel Wrecker - yes that thread will be raised too) and just had to add my praise for how awesome this set is. The functionality on this puppy is truly mind-boggling. I was really pleased that I managed to get everything working correctly in one build (I had no such luck when I built the Airtech Claw Rig) You mentioned how you thought that the set looked ugly, however I think that the aesthetics of the set are rather nice. It pretty much looks like the real thing, which is a real feat given it's made from good old beams I believe this set encapsulates what Technic should be all about in terms of functionality (yes 8264 Hauler, I'm looking at you). And I couldn't resist to open/build it Alothoug it has been the 1989 flagship set, the structure and build is rather simple. But it looks good, the features work well, and it offers great playability. The B-model is great, too. The only thing I don't like is the fact that 8862 uses only yellow beams and plates. A black (or gray) chassis, similar to 8849, would have been a good idea. Quote
