Maple Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Anyone want to guess how LEGO will make an 800 piece donut shop (it has to include a new helicopter and van for sure) and a 1055 rocket transport? 1000 pieces to make a rocket transport? It's bigger than the launch station! Quote

Haha true, I’m still in disbelief that they would make a city shop with so many pieces and not vehicle driven..that’s a lot of donuts Maybe it’s a stop off point for the Police? It will be a long wait until we see pics, I have forgotten when do things surface for summer release sets? Edit - added comment Edited December 22, 2018 by AusMinifig Quote

Just look, biggest City plane was 7893 with 401 parts + space shuttle 3368 (231p.)now increase it by minifigs and some other accessories and you get +1000 Edited December 22, 2018 by AOW Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Thank you very much for the list, @Falconfan1414! Since again there doesn't seem to be a space station, I'm - apart from perhaps the Satellite Mission - not interested in the Space subtheme. The Truck Of The Fire Brigade's Boss could be a nice addition to all the Fire sets. It's great that there'll be some civilian sets in summer! The Fairground Minifig Pack sounds promising and will for sure be a great addition to the Creator Fairground series. Another shop / building is always welcome and so even the Donuts Store. Since it's called an opening, I hope that there'll be a TV broadcast van included. The Central Garage will for sure be good, too. The only question is: Will Central Garage be a car repair shop or a parking deck? 16 hours ago, Robert8 said: Sadly there are no farm sets I wouldn't give up my hopes already now. We talked about that a whole Farm subtheme is supposably unlikely, but a big farm set on its own not. And firstly set number 60238 is still missing. And secondly I can't imagine this list being the complete one since in the past years there always have been two subthemes plus some extra sets in summer. SInce the Space subthemes will be very huge, I bet for a small subtheme with 4-5 sets in summer. 1 hour ago, Maple said: Anyone want to guess how LEGO will make an 800 piece donut shop (it has to include a new helicopter and van for sure) and a 1055 rocket transport? 1000 pieces to make a rocket transport? Since Lego won its action against the Asian clone brands, let's hope that TLG will at the Nuremberg Toy Fair (January, 30th til February, 3rd) not be that restrective like they were this year and that the first pics will show up at that time. TeriXeri Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 (edited) I wonder if the 60224 - mission for satellite maintenance - 84 pieces is a Starter Pack (each exploration theme had one so far). But could be a 4+ or regular set too (2 minifig max), if 2019 is any indication that starter packs seem gone within City. Edited December 22, 2018 by TeriXeri Quote
AOW Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Back in the 1995 we had this: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=6544-1#T=S&O={"iconly":0} Now take that set to the current level and younger +1000 Quote
Digger of Bricks Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 I wonder if this latest Space subtheme will retain the realism of the previous two Spaceport subthemes, or if they'll give it a little more of a Sci-Fi edge as was done with the last Arctic subtheme. I'd preferably hope to see some astronauts with a slightly more futuristic design, yet still retaining some vestiges of realism, kinda like The Martian: Quote

I'm guessing it will be a rocket on a plane (or even a helicopter carrying it) and the donut shop will have a news helicopter and a van, and a police car and motorcycle for 'traffic control', like the museum set with cop cars and such from years ago. Still these seem like very large sets. Larger than the launch pad is shocking. Like the wave has too many large $100+ sets. I wish the lunar base has 800-1000 pieces and not a donut shop. 400 piece lunar base will be very disappointing most likely. LEGO loves space shuttles which is interesting. Clearly they wouldn't be making a bunch of them across now four themes (I'm including Overwatch) if they weren't selling. Yet the target range has never seen one fly, it will be 8.5 years since the last shuttle mission when these sets come out. Edited December 22, 2018 by Maple Quote

Maple Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 That will never, ever, EVER happen. A baseplate in a City set?! HAVE YOU GONE MAD!!!?! Quote

Heh, the baseplate isn't of that much importance to me compared to the shuttle. Preferably, I'd at least wish to see a near-futuristic space shuttle with a footprint and color scheme evocative of the good ol' LL928, with some small triangular porthole windows in Trans-Yellow in lieu a full canopy and a Sand Blue paint job which fuses the Light Bluish Grey and Bright Blue of the original. That is a super specific want from a set. I just want the lunar base not to be as sad as I'm expecting it to be. I'm thinking it will be like Jungle Mobile Lab 60160, just recolored and such. Roebuck, fairs have animals. I'm picturing a pig, maybe a new lamb piece, or the return of the goat. Quote

Yet the target range has never seen one fly, it will be 8.5 years since the last shuttle mission when these sets come out. That's the appeal of great aviation designs! Few kids have ever seen a WWI or WWII warbird fly, and only the older generation of AFOLs are old enough right now to remember the Apollo missions, but all of those still attract kids. Plus, the Space Shuttle is a lot better-suited to Lego and Lego play than any other crewed spacecraft, since it looks like an airplane and it's got this nice fun cargo bay. I bet Lego won't stop making space shuttles until we finally get somebody back to the Moon or the company goes under, whichever comes first. Four themes, let's see - in 2019 there's the big and little Overwatch shuttles, the midi-scale Creator shuttle, and the rumored City shuttle. What's the fourth one? I can think of the Batman shuttle, the mini-scale Ideas shuttle, and the basic shuttle from a Classic box of bricks, but those are 2018, 2017, and 2018 kits. Quote

I like the shuttle but they are super popular, we get at least one a year. And yes the forth I was counting was the BatShuttle as it's still on the shelf and very much a shuttle. So technically there are four themes, but many more sets. The Creator minifigure scale shuttle from 2017 I think, The Creator miniscale shuttle in 2019, Batshuttle from 2018, City 2019 Shuttle and Overwatch Shuttle thing. And what will replace the shuttle short term is a rocket, which like you said, is NOT as fun as a shuttle with wings and a cargo bay. Edited December 22, 2018 by Maple Quote

Well yes - what I had in mind was the fact that with minifigs there are accessories like helmets, air tanks... And by accessories I actually meant, other vehicles, buildings etc... You add them all and you get that 1000 parts. Note that recently TLG is like "cheating" on parts count, best examples are both fire station 60004 and 60110 . Older one had 731 newer 887... I have both, and really like both but I always ask myself where that difference is .... Quote

LEGO now produces more smaller more detailed parts. That allows for more detailed builds, but 100 pieces today looks like less “stuff”. The original x-wing 7142 had 267 pieces, the latest 75218 has 731 pieces. I’m not 100% sure the are the same size (my 7142 was broken down long ago) but they are both minifig scale. And the speed champion sets won’t be possible without the new smaller slopes and curved pieces. A $40 set today looks so much smaller but LEGO has to make about 400 pieces either way. I like the new building style with more detail but some might like the old school simpler style. Quote
GrandDukeofKumquats Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 Interesting. With this new space theme, I really hope they go all-out, and the space station sounds promising. The fairground people pack sounds really cool as well. I hope they include the cotton candy piece, and maybe that new bird mould from the Jasmine castle set. Quote
Aanchir Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 Interesting that Space is apparently serving as the main science/research/exploration subtheme for this summer, rather than secondary to it like the smaller Space wave in 2015 was to the larger Deep Sea Explorers wave that year. On my spreadsheet I had grouped previous Space waves in the broader Flight category together with Airport and Cargo because that was it seemed more analogous to in terms of number and style of sets (as well as them only appearing in years with no other Airport or Cargo themed sets). Unless there's another upcoming subtheme of sets we haven't heard of yet, yeah, that is a most interesting observation... ...so perhaps that Lunar Space Station isn't just a mere anomaly amongst an otherwise typical Spaceport line. Obviously a donut shop won’t be three stories, but it could be a fairly substantial building even if it does include a vehicle of some sort. Quote
danimarroquin Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 really wish that they could do a special retailer consumer set with the 747 caring the space shuttle . that would be iconic set ! Also a concorde set would be amazing . Quote
