The Vehicles have trans black windows.

60226 Has a printed one, not sure if see through.

60228 Is printed aswell or sticker.

Rest use ordinary pieces.

OK then! :classic:

Speaking of the spacecraft, how closely do the subtheme's shuttles resemble real-life space shuttles? Spot on, or is there a bit of any futuristic, speculative variance?

What spacecraft? Do you have a set number?

Namely from these two sets:

Brickset - 60224 {Maintenance Mission Shuttle}

...and...

Brickset - 60226 {Mars Research Shuttle}

Perhaps you haven't seen those two sets in particular? :shrug_confused:

Sorry, i'm not native English.

From what i can see, 60224 has no thrusters, and the windshield is like 50% of the length of the set. It's tiny. Also includes a small rover.

60226: Looks like this shuttle in which i shared a photo below, but there's a gap where the red lines are. The wings are although wider towards the front.

There's 1 logo (Space related) on both sides of the wings.

Half the length?! Like a panoramic canopy?! :oh3:

Hmmmm, sounds intriguing.

Heh, wistful thinking here, but it wouldn't perhaps resemble this in any way would it? :blush:

Seems to some variant of that logo. Not 100% sure, but there's a round Logo with dark blue background and a white line across it, (Horizontally).

Above that white line is some orange redish circle. Too small to be able to see it fully, though.

As far as i can see the stickers appear in 60226 60227, 60228.

brown tank on the big rocket... sounds very shuttle derived, so either a straight up shuttle, or something Ares V like (From nasa's constellation program, which was killed in 2010 and obviously never flew)

The other two sets also being called "shuttle" really disappoints me, yet another theme with shuttle rehashes... while real world space exploration and near-future scifi (stuff like the Martian) is moving in very different directions

The set has a photo in the bottom left corner that is nearly identical to this image. There's 3 words, but can't read them.

That is Ares-V allright, in some weird human-rated variant (doesnt look like Ares IV) that isnt in the wiki article

I find it oddly fitting that when lego would finally move beyond endless shuttle rehashes (even though this wave will still have some), it is with a shuttle derivative...

That said, NASAs current SLS efforts are still shuttle derived, pretty similar to Ares V, the real innovation is happening over at SpaceX and BlueOrigin

That's not Ares V, that's SLS.  They ditched the white and black Saturn inspired paint scheme to save weight at the latest design review and reverted to unpainted Shuttle derived insulation for the cryogenic propellant tanks of the core stage.

Huh, so perhaps more akin to the mission logos from the previous Space subthemes of City?

I stand corrected. I hadnt seen that they ditched the white paint yet. Given how slow progress on the NASA first party stuff is (SLS, LOPG) compared to SpaceX and others, i havent been keeping up with it.

Sorry- I can't really see. There's no red outline, though.

So when is that Lego event that people are saying the pics of the summer sets will be shown?

Have to say I am curious myself. When is all of this going to be real??

Darn darn darn darny darn. But thanks.

It is admittedly a bit strange that the first Space subtheme of City's to move beyond Earth ends up on Mars rather than the Moon, as I would've figured we'd see the first such subtheme be lunar-based, then make its way to Mars four years later. Perhaps the idea of colonizing the Moon is a bit antiquated, whereas Mars is the current default for speculative extraterrestrial colonization nowadays? :def_shrug:

Any talk of the “donut shop opening”? That’s what I’m excited for!

It’s a cool set.

From a perspective of the logical sequence of real world space exploration it's a bit strange, but there is an ongoing debate about whether to go back to the Moon before going to Mars or whether to go to Mars first, skipping the Moon.  I'm in the "Moon first" camp myself.  From a Lego perspective, Mars makes a lot more sense because the City Mars subtheme can act as a successor to Life on Mars and Mars Mission, whereas the previous sets with "lunar" or "Moon" in the title are much older.  Add to that the fact that Mars is more colorful and the fact that recent fictional productions (The Martian, the National Geographic Channel's miniseries about Mars, the canceled Hulu series "The First") have been about Mars, and it's no surprise in hindsight that the Lego theme would also be about Mars.  The fiftieth anniversary of Apollo 11 has inspired a couple of spectacular nonfiction movies about the Moon, but those aren't exactly interested in merchandising.

Looks like some of the torsos for the space line have leaked.  They're definitely Mars Mission-inspired.  I really like the logo though, it seems like a much more modern version of the classic space logo.  I'd love to see this version used more!
