Changing out motors?

I wanna get back into the hobby, but I want the cars to go a little faster, any way to change out the motors, and if so, any recommendations?

The easiest way to speed up cars is to switch the power source from a Lego battery box to a BuWizz. It has a higher voltage, which results in higher RPM for the same motors. The support up to now hasn't been great for this product, but @Zerobricks has recently been hired by BuWizz to help in this area, so I'm hoping things improve.

or use a 12 volt battery and the Lego battery pack. The Lego battery pack is hooked up to the IR or 2.4gh receiver and the 12 v battery is hooked up to motor .. Here's a mod I've successfully done.. 

and at 12 volts , you need to reinforce your model or this will happen!!

I don’t like modifying parts and I still wish LEGO would make faster motors, but if you are okay with using expensive parts, I think the RC Buggy motors from 2003 are fast enough.

You can also play around with gear ratios for higher speeds.

"faster" is a relative and subjective term, much like the word "purism". end of the day it is our very individual definition of playability, and our willingness to "venture out" as opposed to working with familiar stuff, that really matters... So it would help if you could state down your comfort level in terms of using non-lego parts.
