Basiliscus Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Nice build summary! Looks like Avalonia is once again showing it has a lot of active players. Varlyrio will need to keep the few members it has active if it wants to compete with the others. Quote

The architecture is also more generic fantasy than for example Kaliphlin with deserts and middle eastern style buildings. I think that's a big reason for people to choose Avalonia. Not saying it's a bad thing, don't get me wrong. Quote
halixon Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 Oh man, Kaliphlin's running a little *dry* Whereas Avalonia is thriving with its green pastures and forests Quote
soccerkid6 Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Good work everyone, you put out some lovely builds And now the results are in! We'll start with the winner for Varlyrio: @Basiliscus - Conzaga Manor Next is the winner for Mitgardia: @Ayrlego - Constructing Falcontop Keep And the winner for Avalonia: @Wineyard - The Gate of Shwarzburg Finally the overall winner, and and top entry for Kaliphlin: @Gideon - Aslanic Temple in Barqa Similarly to how the free builds are scored, challenge entries also earned gold for each guild. Avalonia - 79 gold Kaliphlin - 47 gold Mitgardia - 29 gold Varlyrio - 22 gold And here are the gold earnings for the first free build period. Avalonia - 134 gold Varlyrio - 110 gold Mitgardia - 94 gold Kaliphlin - 62 gold Giving the current standings of the guilds:Avalonia - 213 gold Varlyrio - 132 gold Mitgardia - 123 gold Kaliphlin - 109 gold Keep up the good work everyone, and continue making free builds to earn gold and glory for your respective guild Quote
Grover Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 I have always been curious how gold is earned... is it X number of coins per entry, or is it on a 1-10 scale or something? I don't really care what my entries (or those of others) earned, just curious how these numbers are calculated, as the opacity seems to lend itself to the suggestion of randomness. Quote
Henjin_Quilones Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 @Grover, As far as freebuild scoring goes, we take all of the free builds for the Challenge period, and give them credit based on their size. Some builds from each Guild also get additional points for quality of build (we take into account story and photography to a lesser degree). This way we can account for both the quantity and quality of the builds from each Guild. Note: Every Guild will have the same number of free builds scored for quality each period (generally 10), unless a Guild has an especially low number of free builds during that free build period. For Challenge build scoring, it is similar to the above, except that ALL builds get scored by both size and quality. Quote
Grover Posted November 1, 2018 Posted November 1, 2018 Thanks for the explanation! That makes sense and satisfies my curiosity. Quote

Why would not a guild with < 10 builds within the period get all those builds scored for quality as long as they fulfil the requirements for good enough quality? Quote
Rogue Angel Posted November 1, 2018 Author Posted November 1, 2018 If a Guild has less free-builds then our number for additional scoring, then every one of those builds gets the additional scoring points. It is not percentage based (i.e. 50%.of your 10 builds get additional scoring) or quality-based at that point (we would not say "only 3 of your 5 builds will get scored because the other ones are not higher quality" if you have less than our additional scoring number for that period. All would get the additional scoring. We do not want other Guilds to suffer though if one Guild has a lack of free builds in a period. Quote

Does this mean not all free builds are scored for quality? If so, how do you guys choose? In case a Guild has more free builds than the number for additinal score, that is. Rogue Angel Posted November 1, 2018 Author Posted November 1, 2018 In the past, we scored all of the free builds, which is why it took so long to score. Now a number of Guild Leaders and lieutenants pick the builds to be scored. This will vary depending on the number of builds for each scoring period, and the points and builds scored. In Book 1, scored builds were released, and this became a point of contention between builders and judges, so builds selected for scoring as well as scores will remain anonymous. The reason for free build scoring is to account for the overall efforts by builders to contribute to their Guild and GoH, not to ask "Is Build A better than Build B?" Expanding your Guild, adding to the backstory and adventures of your characters and building your realm within your Guild should be perhaps the primary goal for building free builds. Experimenting with build techniques, build styles and color pallets are other good goals for free builds. Building for the fun of it, another good goal. Scoring is not. That is what Challenges are for. The intent of Challenges are to provide structured guidelines for you to competitively build for recognition. The intent of Free Builds are to build out your realm and your Guild, while building for fun. Quote
