xenologer Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 (edited) I haven't been much into the Space Faction stuff before, so forgive if I'm a little clueless on the norms, but... Now that ?3vil? and ?PCS? have official Space Skull and Star Justice versions, is it considered 'kosher' to build MOCs in these themes tho I am not the theme's creator? and extending this question even deeper, often times people like to rebuild or remake (with varying degrees of changes) official sets. -example, in new colors schemes, or with new parts selection(rader turn into guns, etc) SS and SJ seem like a gray area for this to me though, since they're Official sets, yet they are also based on someone's MOCs. So the line between 'remaking an official set' and 'plagrism' seems blurry to me. What do you people think of this? And the input of the designers themselves might shed a lot of light too... I ask because... well I thought that the Skull Fighter looked cool, except for the wing configuration; so I made my own. Basically a direct copy of the skull face on the nose, but a new tail section. the concept is pretty much the same. Did I end up stealing? or is this a valid 'rebuild'? (not posting it till i decide if I'd be commiting a faux pas or not) Edited March 28, 2008 by xenologer Quote
Deinonychus Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Well, I think if you give a nod to the inspiration in the text area of your post or BS folder it's all good...because, how much can you really "steal" with a fully customizable and interchangeable building block system? Quote
Admiral Giddens Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Subthemes have never been closed to other builders. At least not PCS and 3vil. It's open season. We didn't give LEGO those phrases or names. They own Star Justice and Space Skulls. Build as you like! No one ever said you couldn't build other Mars Mission ships did they? You can build what you like, call it PCS, 3vil or whatever. Just note, folks know when you have the "vibe" or not with the theme and will make a comment. If you build something and think OH I add a subtheme name and it'll be cooler, *BZZT* try again. Other's building in subthemes is why they were really popular for a while. It was open ended with a few design aesthetics that anyone could join in on. BUILD! POST! Quote
