Top of Barad-Dûr looks excellent!! The Eye looks really good too. My only concern is it looks like they may have used brown prices to make it look like the flames from the Eye are reflected in the top of the tower. Could just be for this teaser but I really hope it’s all just black in the actual set

If we only get the Éowyn and Witch King battle in a GWP, I am going to scream. That’s like the single set that I (and lots of other people) would care most about getting as a normal set.

Not gonna happen

Agree about the part, disagree about the colour, I think it's bright light yellow with trans orange parts around it.

I get that it might be that part, but how have they managed to not let the black bricks that form the iris show behind the trans orange.

You could be right and it's bright yellow which would hide the black bricks.

To me it does look more like a render than an actually brickbuilt eye. That beeing said I woulnd´t be that sure that they eye in the Set looks exactly like this, aside that even if it would be the same it would still look totally different without all the effects. Well, I guess just 3 days till we find out.

Sauron_Eye

It fits perfectly around the 1x4 curved slope! You all are right about the color though, looking closer it is opaque

So it begins...

I don't think sets are typically revealed on Sundays, so we'll probably see what it looks like (and possibly even the GWP) on Monday or Tuesday, if my guess.

Leakers say official reveal the 14th, but it still may leak before that of course..

Ohhh that makes perfect sense! How could i forget about that :pir-huzzah1:

If you look really closely at the light reflection in the teaser you can see it is indeed those slopes with that join in the middle.

I think those shades of brown/tan are definitely going to be in the final model.
I think it looks quite effective with the lighter brown closer to the eye and the darker to the edges before blending into black.
(if there was an 'official' way to wire it up to USB and leave the eye light on, I would probably switch it to all black bricks, but as it stands, its a cool effect to make it looks like it's always glowing )

If those tans and browns are in the final model I’m switching them out immediately. Dont like that at all. I don’t think it’ll look good at all without all the extra fire effects

Yeah, same here. I think it's just a lighting effect in the teaser to be honest, but no way I leave them brown if that's the official model.

The pieces are indeed dark brown, reddish brown and few even from the nougat colour range. The lego model obviously follows the older Weta collectible very closely in colour choices, where Weta also had reddish brownish shading on top of the tower and also on some lower parts to simulate illuminated parts, rust and a generally more weathered look, not just mono-chromatic black. Some pieces like the speed champion slopes from last year in dark brown do not yet come in black, although you could leave them and only replace the nougat and reddish brown parts since dark brown is already very close to black.

The use of brown pieces on the model around the eye etc. was also visible in the survey pic

In the survey pic it was too blurry to see whether the actual pieces were those colors or if it was some render effect. And the Weta statues are different from lego models, I don’t think it will translate well in the actual model. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think I’m going to like what that looks like

I am willing to wait and see on the different colors around the eye.  Last year when Rivendell came out and Lego ideas did that competition to win a free copy someone submitted the balrog vs. Gandalf scene using some orange bricks for shading the rocks and bridge (for the fire reflections) and it looked incredible.  I’m willing to wait and see but may switch them out to black depending on how it looks.

To be clear, it’s going to be a day one purchase either way and I’m sure I will be extremely happy with it overall. I’m already very pleased with the shaping of the top section and the Eye! I just don’t think using brown pieces on a structure that should be straight black will look good for a set this size. I don’t think it will quite achieve the right effect. But we’ll see.

Fair enough, and getting a gwp made this a day one purchase for me too (verses waiting for a 2xVIP).  I just need to go early to the Lego store.

what day is it releasing?  I know June 1st but does that mean May something for VIP?

The shaping of the forks on either side of the eye looks a little off in its silhouette but the eye looks better than I was expecting it to.  The browns to simulate the eye's glow is a cool effect but I fear, like others have said, that it might not translate as well without the visual CGI effects we see in LEGO's teaser.

It's good to see fans clamoring for playscale LOTR sets on the thread for the Barad-Dur teaser. I hope LEGO sees LOTR as the goldmine that it is. I feel like a positive response from the market to Barad-Dur is all the convincing they would need. As in, if a healthy amount of people are willing to pay for giant sets, imagine what they and all the fans who can't afford the giant sets would do if there were more affordable sets.

Basically you could do several things with this theme they have done with others. Playsets, dioramas, buildable figures/creatures, microscale sets etc.

I really wonder what the next big set would be?

People who cannot afford to buy the set on day 1 can just save up for it! LOL Kidding aside, I think Rivendell, for example is somewhat heirloom quality in its design, much like the large 18+ Architecture sets. Heirloom might be an exaggeration but you get the point - it is something families can build together and is displayable on its own, much like an art piece or living room fixture.

Keep the minifigs coming!!! Look at the HP sets!!!

I wonder if a Gotham Skyline-style art set would do well for some scenes or locations?

CMFs, battle packs, and playlets... we could all just dream! Bring them on!!!

I'm going to say something that might surprise some, but... I hope Lego does NOT release another big LOTR set for a while, at very least until after they retire either Rivendell or Barad Dur. Sure most people would LOVE Minas Tirith, but let's think about this from a consumers perspective. Lego is about to have TWO MASSIVE LOTR sets on shelves, one is good the other is bad. Do they REALLY need Minia Tirith at this point? I would argue no. I think it's time for sets under $100, to fill out the theme, not another $500 plus set. I'm not saying they should be "playset" style, they could be diagrams, or CMF, etc.

What do you all think? Agree with me or no?

We haven't even seen the set to say its bad yet .

To your wider point Id agree at some smaller sets for a couple of years till these 2 retire but if it means no LOTR sets unless its a massive set Id go with keeping the theme alive.

In the end, it doesn´t matter, since they keep doing them. Look at Star Wars, where they make two big Sets every year, Harry Potter also gets one, so they will keep doing the same with Lord of the Rings as long as people buy it. We shouldn´t forget the Sets don´t necessarily aim for people to buy all of them, there are also people wo will buy Rivendell but not Barad-Dûr etc.

From a customer sight, of course it is to much to buy. Hence why I didn´t get Rivendell yet, though it really is a great set. But Lord of the Rings isn´t the only theme around I like and space and money are limited.
