BrickBob Studpants Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 (edited) Absolutely beautiful Love both the exterior and the interior, especially the brick-built eye, and then the minifigs They all look fantastic!! I really like the new orc helmet too, didn‘t expect that! Funny that the rumoured Nazgûl has been replaced by Gothmog, but I don‘t mind that one bit! His missing arm being „naked“ instead is a decent compromise. And we‘re still getting a Nazgûl in the Fell beast GWP set! Edited May 14, 2024 by BrickBob Studpants Quote
Rjbricks Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Hmm, not sure. Doesn’t look grand enough somehow. Sauron head piece looks awesome. Whole fig does. Really, really want it. Quote
Rwbricks Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Oh this, this is beautiful. My first impressions are largely positive. The set as a whole looks good, and it will be an impressive display piece. While it does seem a bit more squat than in the films, that doesn’t bother me all that much. There is a bit more color in the rocks than I expected, but it’s not too much to distract. I do really love how they put browns and burnt oranges around the eye to make it look like it’s glowing. That’s a fantastic effect. The eye itself looks good, and I’m eager to see how it looks with the light brick on. For the minifigures, Sauron is great, and the orcs are surprisingly really well done. On the other hand, it’s too bad that Frodo and Sam are not dirty/worn variants, especially given that a bit of Mount Doom is included. Gollum looks weird to me, but maybe that’s just because I’m so used to the older design. Overall, though, the set looks great. I can’t wait to see it in person. Quote
Captain Pirate Man Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 I think the set looks great!! Super excited!! Quote
Blazej_Holen Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Fellbeast GWP poped up… only one fig - nazgul. Quote
MKJoshA Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 I think the Fell Beast looks good, but with only 1 fig I'm not sure it's enough to push me to buy day 1. Quote
TheDoctor Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 That Fell Beast is a bit underwhelming. Would have been nice to see the Ilu head recoloured for it... Quote
Altair1 Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 (edited) Oh, I am buying day 1 more than ever :-) Edited May 14, 2024 by Altair1 Quote
CallumPears Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 I'm happy with the Orc figures. One of my biggest complaints about the original sets was that they just reused the Isengard Orcs for everything instead of making proper armoured ones. In that regard, though, it's a shame that they've reused the same Sam and Frodo figures from Rivendell. Also not a fan of the new Gollum face. I hate the glowy eyes they've been doing on some Star Wars figures and it doesn't work here either. Quote
Shroffy123 Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 (edited) Wow looks great Wished sauron had the long legs New orc designs look so good. Especially the new shield and helmet. Set itself looks great. Edited May 14, 2024 by Shroffy123 Quote
sahidko Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 (edited) Alson in the camp wishing Sauron did not use the normal legs. Otherwise what a great set, day 1 purchase for sure. If the fellbeast leak is real I can't say the same about that one. :D Edited May 14, 2024 by sahidko Quote
Altair1 Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 (edited) I think you guys are a bit harsh on the Fellbeast, to me it does not look that bad actually. And in any case so much better as a GWP than the ugly Brickheadz we got with Rivendell:-) Edited May 14, 2024 by Altair1 Quote
mirkwoodspiders Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Stunning model! I take back what I said about the brown bricks at the top - I think they look fine and add nicely to the Eye of Sauron glow-effect. The Fell Beast build is about as pedestrian as I expected. Not terrible, but not blowing me away. Someone said it's a tougher sell with only one minifig and I agree, but I still want the Nazgul! Still a day one purchase! What a set! Quote
Kraby Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Kinda off topic but does anyone have the actual dimensions of Rivendell? LEGO states it is 50cm deep but from the looks of it it doesn't seem right? I might be wrong though. Also, day one for Barad-Dur! Quote

Placed as flat to the wall as possible as a joined together build it is 32cm deep and 75cm wide. Tallest point is 40cm. Is general opinion still for a June 1st release date? Quote
ToaDraco Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 (edited) Barad-Dur looks amazing, as does all of the new minifigs! So many new molds too. My favorite part of the build is definitely the eye, wow that's perfect! The Fell Beast promo... exists. I'm honestly glad it's nothing special so I don't get fomo from it. Man, I really, really hope we start getting some regular retail sets for LotR again. I can't afford this or Rivendell and I so badly want a large $30-$50 brick-built Treebeard. It really sucks we've only been getting massive d2cs and brickheads thus far. Edited May 14, 2024 by ToaDraco Quote

mirkwoodspiders Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 I'm not sure how people feel about the price, but $460 seems pretty good with bang-up figs, 5,000+ pieces and a light brick. I don't think the GWP will be as valuable as many thought with only 1 figure, but it'll offset a little of the cost if people want to sell it. Quote
Llewop Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 The build is wonderful. but I don’t know if I can get away with the price and displaying it (my wife might complain) might pick up the figures they are so good, the prints, helmets, shields great new molds did I even spot an eye of Sauron banner as well. i do fish this was regular theme rather than icons Or just give us cheaper sets they’d make the same amount if not more Quote
Agent Kallus Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 I'm in love, I already know where to put it (peering out the window) Nd those Orcs are great, shame there isn't more of the them though for a set this size. Quote

Captain Nemo Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 I can’t remember a time I was so excited for a new set, and I think this mostly lived up to my hype, mostly. The build itself is great, I’m really pleased with how it looks, specifically the rock work and the interior space. I’m not sold on the trans-yellow lava bits at the bottom, where trans-orange would probably look better, but conversely I love the dark orange and brown highlights across the model. The eye is perfect. I want to see more images of the interior, but I like what I see. In my dreams the set included a cute fun flashback family tapestry with Morgoth, Sauron, Ungoliant, and a baby Shelob, but now I’m just rambling. I like what they did here too. But next time Lego, put that tapestry in! Sadly, I’m underwhelmed with the minifigures. Sauron is great, just a bit off. I’m very interested to see his face print, I’m skeptical of the red eyes (not going to happen, but I’d love a beautiful Annatar alt face too) I do feel like the majority of builders ultimately wouldn’t like it, but I wish Lego just went crazy and gave him the long legs and arms from Avatar. Just go all out. What’s the point of those things if we don’t use them when we should. I think I’ll swap in the extended Batman cape from the Joker Manor set, to slim him out, make him look taller, and give him some drama. The Orcs are odd to me; their body prints are all perfect but their faces all seem too small/squished. I think they’ll blend well with the old ones thankfully, and the new shields and helmets are good for variety. Frodo and Sam should have new prints, but are understandably just swapped in from Rivendell, which I (should?) give a pass to. Gollum is terrible. The arms are a downgrade and the eyes are awful. Fortunately the old one is readily available. GWP is seriously disappointing, but that’s 90% on the ambitious inaccurate leaks distributed like yesterday. So on what we got, it’s serviceable. Lego can clearly build better dragons. I’m buying the set immediately, so this GWP is a bonus as opposed to an incentive they can sometimes be. The dark grey color is understandable, but I think they should have just gone with black (presumably they went grey to blend the joints and make it stand out on the box, honestly). The Nazgûl is uninteresting design wise, but asking for the Witch-King was too much at this time (maybe we’ll get Gondor or something, probably not) Most of all I think it’s missing the reins/chains, which to me are rather memorable.
