Balrogofmorgoth Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 The inclusion of the Orc helmets for Frodo and Sam is an excellent touch. They still 100% should have made Mordor versions of them and still done the helmets. But still. After seeing more pics I love the build more and more. Still not a huge fan of the glow effect using the brown pieces. I’ll have to get used to that. The top spires especially look really weird not being black. All the references inside are great too Quote

My point was, no matter if the Licensing they originally made when they started with Rivendell included possibilites to make smaller sets, or Sets based on anything else than the Lord of the Rings at all, it does seem unlikely to me that they wouldn´t get they licensing for those, if they wanted to have them. Warner and New Line are companies that need to make money and with big IPs Merchandising/Licensing doesn´t make a that small part of it IMO. Not to mention, that for new Films Sets also would also be advertising those. Your right I have no idea what you are talking about. It seems Lego has the rights to Jacksons LOTR trilogy. I was saying I don't think they have rights to any upcoming LOTR movies yet as they are just announced. Also it all depends on the Tolkien estate and Warner bros on wether they let lego do merchandising for what they have right to. Lego can't just do whatever they want. Quote

War of the Rohirrim was already announced way back. And noone said they could do whatever they can. And at this point, if they would do sets for that film, likely there would have been leaks for it already, though I would still not completely rule them out. If they will do for Gollum, who knows. Though honestly for me that film overall sounds less appealing than LotR , the Hobbit and even the War of the Rohirrim - which doesn´t mean it can still become a great film, but it is hard to imagine what they would do with it at this point. Frizzlefry25 Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Im glad the GWP isn't mindblowing. Would be nice for those who get it, but now I feel like I won't be missing out if I don't get this day one. It definitely is a little wider and deeper than I imagined, may have to find a new location to put it, when I can finally get this thing. Nice looking build! Quote
Lion King Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 SSo this Sauron’s tower is 32.5 inches in height. What is the tallest lego set as of today? Quote

Captain Pirate Man Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Orthanc is 28.5 Inches, so Barad Dur is a little taller. Quote

I hope we do get more sets but we haven't heard anymore credible leaks about anything coming up. There was some small rumors of sets coming this winter with War of the Rohirrim but we haven't seen anything that would tell us that that is true. I hope that Lego makes some smaller sets. All that being said Rings of Power trailer did have some good visuals but I have no faith after season 1 with the bad writing and a lot of the characters were not good. HOTD trailer looked great though. Quote
ForgedInLego Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Looking at how the eye is attached, I think it actually has some side to side movement! Not a lot, but enough for the ends of the eye to move about a stud in either direction. Honestly, I am a little worried about the friction of the stacked candlestick pieces over time, hopefully it won't have any problems keeping the eye from looking down all the time Quote
Timobricko Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Why does one of the orcs have a bright red hat?? looks like a 1990s pirate. Is this a reference to something? BitByBrick Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 (edited) I see the front of the box has the width 17.5in and height 32.5in, but the depth is not specified. Is the third dimension listed anywhere, officially? Also, about how many shields are in the set? Thanks! Edited May 15, 2024 by BitByBrick Quote
CardinalBricks Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 I've held off on Rivendell because, as beautiful as that set is, I have all the fellowship minifigures from the original theme and I much prefer those. Also the set/source material uses so many different colors I feel like I could make a large Rivendell MOC with just my available parts. It's on the bucket list. But Barad-dûr is a different story; I would need to buy a whole lot of black elements to make something like this. And honestly I can't resist having this to complement my Tower of Orthanc. I will purchase this set within the GWP window and then give it to myself for Christmas, probably. I don't have room to display it right now anyway. Everyone who has the 79007 Black Gate set sure is sitting pretty right now... that would look amazing right in front of this model and do a good job covering up the slightly-too-colorful (in my opinion) base. I reeeally needed this to include a Gandalf The White and a RotK Aragorn to make myself not feel too bad about missing out on that one. But I'm pleased we got the Mouth of Sauron at least. Not sure I'm sold on the orange gradients. The top of the tower looks great but in other areas the effect looks tacky. In one of the lifestyle photos you can spot the perimeter of the section just above the entrance and it goes brown stripe->dark orange stripe->white stripe->brown stripe, and it looks like some kind of mid-century modern futon cover. I think Orthanc demonstrated that you can have a monochromatic model that still looks interesting if you include enough textures and interesting angles. I'll shut up after this, but it is interesting to me that they chose to omit pupils on Gollum and to include them on the two orcs. I think that was the wrong choice for both, but that's definitely just the fault of the nostalgia goggles; I'm really just so used to the minifigure designs from the original theme. Quote

LEGO’s website says: Dimensions – The fortress in this 5,471-piece building set measures over 32.5 in. (83 cm) high, 17.5 in. (45 cm) wide and 12 in. (30 cm) deep Quote
