But I'll go against the grain and say that I still think the regular sized one looks better. He looks far too much like a lithe Barbie/Friends minidoll with the big limbs for me. I think the helmet alone makes him tall enough to be imposing, IMO.

I also wonder if some of the Orc torsos might be available on PAB?
May 19, 2024May 19 HP just got a fig with long legs: Could be a budget thing, 10 minifigs are not exactly generous for such a big set so maybe they run out of money

May 19, 2024May 19 So, many many years ago, during the first line of LotR sets, I remember there being a picture of Lego's offices that had a bunch of unreleased LotR sets in the background. I've been trying to find that picture again recently, but thanks to the reboot all I can find is the old leaks of Rivendell and Barad-dur. Does anyone else even remember what I'm talking about?
May 19, 2024May 19 Only one I can find after wasting 90 minutes of searching is this one with Alien Conquest, Atlantis and lots of SW. But I feel like there was one with what looked like Helm's Deep, Orthanc and SW stuff like the eventual Ewok Village & Yoda's Hut.
May 19, 2024May 19 In the back you see the Helm’s Deep set next to the Woody and Buzz cardboard (?). I think you can even see the wing of a Balrog. Edited May 19, 2024May 19 by Moexy

Yeah I think that Balrog wing was one of the only pieces of proof that there were more LOTR sets in development that ended up not being made. Also I can’t help but think that Lego won’t make another £300+ set next year because that would be too many sets all in the same pricepoint - personally my hood is that they make a £150-200 Bag End set alongside 2 or 3 dioramas - iconic scenes like the Hobbits hiding from the Ringwraith and Gandalf on the bridge of Khazad Dum

They'd look so jarring next to the old playsets and even the D2Cs
May 19, 2024May 19 What are the chances that LEGO will produce some sets with upcoming The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim? There will also be new movie coming out in 2026, “Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum”, and if they do sets for that one they can always put 1-2 new sets of original LOTR/Hobbit movies with each wave... at least it my wishfull thinking as for BD - I have 0 options to diplay it, so will wait with buy (and thus hopefuly get it some some discount :D )

Folks around here are pretty hopeful that there will be War of the Rohirrim sets, but I just don't see it myself. It's too niche and it's a limited release, I don't think they've even announced a UK release date yet. Moreover, that means the sets being released by the end of the year which would mean they'd already have to be in development. No doubt LEGO wants to wait to assess Barad Dur sales before deciding the direction of the theme. As for Gollum, wouldn't be surprised if there is a tie-in set or at least a set featuring Gollum released around the same time (but that's a long way off!) Reassuring to know it's the same production house, team and distributor, so rights and licensing wouldn't be a problem.

I don’t remember the last time Lego made sets for an animated movie that’s part of a larger live-action franchise. It must have been the Clone Wars Movie. I’m a casual LOTR fan myself, I loved the movies and enjoyed reading the entire trilogy and the hobbit when I was 10. As for actual playsets, watch Lego make LOTR mechs. But sets I could honestly see in the future: Modular Bag end, “You shall not pass” diorama, Midi Scale Minas Tirith and maybe a Prancing Pony set (Lego could make that as a medieval tavern style set so they could cash in on the Castle fans.)

May 19, 2024May 19 I know it’s been mentioned before, but I wonder what will become of all the winners and runners up from this ideas challenge ? I had wondered if Minas Tirith or even Loth Lorien could be made in a similar ‘modular’ way to the Potter Hogwarts play sets that all connect together, but Hogwarts has numerous locations which stand alone in their own right .. Dumbledore’s Office, Clock Tower, Great Hall etc .. where as I’m not sure the LOTR locations do ( if that makes sense ). https://ideas.lego.com/blogs/a4ae09b6-0d4c-4307-9da8-3ee9f3d368d6/post/586923c2-65a6-41ab-a22f-0c5824670d4a

But I can totally get how it can make economic sense for Lego to hold off on making another big set next year. Will they hold off on making any major set and just make a placeholder set (like another Brickheadz)? Or completely not have any release next year? Or release some small sets? Early on, prior to the release or just after the release of Rivendell, I read somewhere that Lego said, at least at that time, they were not interested in releasing anything smaller than a Rivendell-like set (presumably in terms of price point). Things change, so who knows? Also, on the designer interview, one of the designers mentioned that the idea of Barad-dur was thought of as a 'progression' from their earlier release of Rivendell. It would make sense to feature something from the ROTK. Or perhaps it will be that ship referenced in the Rivendell stickers instead?
May 19, 2024May 19 David Solid Brix just posted Sauron with long arms and legs and it looks odd. I have been converted back into the regular minifigure camp 🤣 In the future if he’s fighting isildur in a set or something he needs to be brick built like Steppen wolf

David just put the tan and red Woody legs and arms on Sauron, which obviously looks odd. It also still has the short black cape and the brick built mace. If the long legs and arms were printed with Sauron’s armor and a long, tattered cape and molded mace were included, it would look perfect. I think LEGO’s main argument for going with the standard legs and arms was that a main feature of their Barad-Dur set is Sauron’s throne room. I imagine scaling the throne and the throne room to the longer legs and arms just didn’t work well.

But as soon as you bend the legs and articulate them, or you look at them from different angles, you can see just how disproportionate and weird those long legs are to the rest of the body. I am firmly in the camp that normal legs are superior Edited May 19, 2024May 19 by GreenTreeLeaf
May 20, 2024May 20 I thought the fell beast was terrible at first but looking at the Review of it in hothbricks it looks kinda nice. Especially with the clear bricks attached to it and posed. Now I'm tempted to get it...

I am firmly in the camp that normal legs are superior I like the Sauron minifig as is. It is a strong mini fig. It could be improved with a separate helmet and shoulder but I am also not sure what constraints the design team was under (if they were arbitrary financial restraints not cool, but if it were production related I am happier getting a set with Sauron verses not). I would like to know if the long legs were considered and the reason why they did not use them though. I think the Sauron as is will be a good addition to the existing LOtR figures and hopefully we will get a future playset where they can explore the long legs and arms. (Maybe a last alliance battle set).

Yeah Helm's Deep, Orthanc, and bits of what might be Bag-End and a Balrog are visible in the far back. The Ewok village is there too, front and center. I remember a more zoomed in version, but that might just have been everyone squinting really hard at this one. Edited May 20, 2024May 20 by Ql97

Maybe controversial but to me it even looks less Lego like and more like a cheap knockoff brand with the long legs. But everyone will have their own preference, that's just mine
